How much do you earn per anum before tax? What is your current position/job/career? Do you enjoy it?

OP posts:
duggeehug85 · 12/11/2018 15:07

40k - children and family Social worker. I enjoy my job but it's emotionally draining.

MLMsuperfan · 12/11/2018 15:09

Didn't know social workers earned so much

GrandTheftWalrus · 12/11/2018 15:28

8 quid an hour on a zero hour contract

Grumpyoldblonde · 12/11/2018 15:33

None of your business OP. What do you earn? Are you conducting a survey?

ezeria · 12/11/2018 15:36

Grumpy no it isn't my business, and if people choose not to share what they make then they obviously don't have to.

OP posts:
ezeria · 12/11/2018 15:36

Grumpy and, if you read the thread you would see that I posted what I earn and my reasoning for the questions.

Grumpyoldblonde · 12/11/2018 15:37

It’s a weird way to start a thread, asking nosy questions without volunteering your own information.

parchworkpatty · 12/11/2018 15:39

37k Criminal Investigator.
Public Sector. 34hrs a week.
Good pension.
V flexible . worked TT only when kids small (much less money obvs) .
Absolutely love it. Interesting. Exciting and challenging.

Notthatsimple · 12/11/2018 15:41

OP, do you have an existing degree? Even if it’s one not relevant to any certain discipline, it seems there are a lot of “conversion” courses available.

Knowing what I know now, if I wanted to make a better salary as fast as possible, id probably go into something along the lines of accounting. Tax advisors, actuary, auditors etc.

Or teaching, actually. A friends husband just spent a year retraining and then BOOM, there’s your new career.

Legal professionals - would you say it’s too competitive to get into info you’ve young children limiting your hours and are unqualified?

ezeria · 12/11/2018 15:41

Grumpy ok? People have answered my questions and if they didn't want to then they wouldn't have. I don't see your issue.

OP posts:
Notthatsimple · 12/11/2018 15:44

@parchworkpatty I didn’t know such a job title existed! DD11 wants to be a criminal barrister at the moment, but that sounds cool!

No, I’m not seriously planning an 11yr olds career path, but we love playing “if you could be...” games in the car :)

Dogsorlogs · 12/11/2018 15:45

I work in private healthcare from home 3 days a week. My part time salary is £25k and I get a company car. I love it.

Dogsorlogs · 12/11/2018 15:45

Forgot to say I do 21 hours over 3 days for my £25k.

Notthatsimple · 12/11/2018 15:55

What are you like OP? Are you good at sales, or are you a problem solver, or are you a bit more of a geek (I’m this category), do you like kids, or are you particularly patient? Enjoy the security of civil service or up for a bit more risk in private sector?

ezeria · 12/11/2018 15:57

Midwifery is my dream but I just don't see it to be realistic anymore now that I have a young.

OP posts:
HollySwift · 12/11/2018 15:58

£64 a week, which is taxable. Yay to carers!

Bestseller · 12/11/2018 15:59

£64 per week isn't taxable if its your only income

theSnuffster · 12/11/2018 16:02

I'm a nursery nurse. I work part time, term time only. If I worked full time i'd be on 17.k per year. I love it most of the time but wish we were paid more! I earn a little more than minimum wage which is pretty rare for nursery nurses.

Lordofmyflies · 12/11/2018 16:05

Private healthcare practitioner - £30K a year for 3 days a week

HollySwift · 12/11/2018 16:10

I think you’ll find carers allowance IS a ‘taxable benefit’ thank you.

KM99 · 12/11/2018 16:10

£69k + benefits. Manager in a large, global company. WFH most of the time. Can be long hours but good flexibility around my DS morning school schedule.

RuthW · 12/11/2018 16:14

Absolutely love my job but it's a struggle on 20k. NHS administrator.

MissMarplesKnitting · 12/11/2018 16:15

@hoodiemum how might one become an educational writer?? Need to leave teaching....

PumpkinPie2016 · 12/11/2018 16:17

34.5K

Full time teacher with additional responsibility.

I generally love the job although it is very busy and at points very stressful!

Amallamard · 12/11/2018 16:17

ABout £15k as a TA, love the job, pay is shit. I used to earn a lot more as a software engineer many moons ago but I hated the job. Would be nice to be well paid and enjoy the job!
