To think that no employer is sticking a chip in me

Is it just me or is this totally bizarre? The huge company considering this in the UK is reportedly Amazon.

Christ no way.
Horrifying.
I'll take a swipe card to clock in, that's plenty good enough.
What's the benefit?

Juells · 12/11/2018 10:18

This is simply new tech. People are always unduly frightened by new tech.

The chip would work just as well on a bracelet or around the neck. Absolutely no need for it to be implanted. What happens when you leave the company? Chips aren't tiny, I know from my dogs' chips that they hurt going in, and they'd hurt even more coming out.

Bellabonkers · 12/11/2018 10:20

It will be interesting to see which parts of society this will be marketed to. The 'privileged' classes or just the peasants😢
The answer to that should give a good indication of who they actually want to monitor

JacquesHammer · 12/11/2018 10:21

I'd love to give it a go, I think it would be fascinating!

echt · 12/11/2018 10:22

Wouldn't have one for work though

So what's to stop the chip implanters from selling the info to your employers?

In Au there's a campaign on to opt-out of having your health info being sold any wanker with the money. Same idea.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 12/11/2018 10:22

I would resign immediately from any job that insisted on rhis

Jayfee · 12/11/2018 10:22

Just no!

JanetLovesJason · 12/11/2018 10:22

Big fat no from me.

echt · 12/11/2018 10:24

I think the way to look at how implanting at work would work would be by looking at who, right now, has the following:

own office
parking privileges
no uniform

A rough guide to to those who would not be implanted.

user1499173618 · 12/11/2018 10:24

No way could I cope with this! Quite aside from the privacy/control implications, which are mind boggling, I cannot cope with contraception, the very idea of breast implants makes me feel ill and my DC never had a bottle!

Jaxhog · 12/11/2018 10:25

Why is it ok to microchip cats, who have no choice, but not ok to chip people?

Bellabonkers · 12/11/2018 10:26

Exactly echt

lljkk · 12/11/2018 10:27

Cats lick their bits in public. I don't think they fret about privacy or identity theft.

I'm super fed up of remembering a million passwords (on a million devices, so don't tell me to use a password manager, which my employer would ban anyway and won't let me install on work machines, will work). Waving a chipped hand at a scanner sounds quite nice.

Dowser · 12/11/2018 10:27

Gosh, I remember David Icke talking about this 20 years ago.
He doesn’t sound such a nut job now.

No way.

IStandWithPosie · 12/11/2018 10:27

I’m just imagining them offering this for free if you’re in receipt of benefits. Like they do for dog microchips. Pop down to the GP for your free chip.

echt · 12/11/2018 10:27

Why is it ok to microchip cats, who have no choice, but not ok to chip people? I dunno. Would you care to explain, having raised it?

strawberrisc · 12/11/2018 10:28

If anyone wanted to "hack" into my life they'd have to be desperate! Grin

JacquesHammer · 12/11/2018 10:28

It would never be acceptable on a compulsory basis. On a voluntary basis? Sure? Why not if you’re happy to do so.

JanetLovesJason · 12/11/2018 10:29

I don’t think it is ok to microchip cats Jaxhog. A lot of people don’t agree with treating animals as objects.

Sparklesocks · 12/11/2018 10:29

Jaxhog why do you think?

BettyBitchface · 12/11/2018 10:29

DH's workplace currently use finger print clock in and out.
The system is a piece of shit and frequently fails to register even though it shows the employee confirmation of a successful read.

Management say, "no fingerprint, equals not in, equals no wages for that day".

Nice eh?

They even dock if the system clocks them in but fails on clock threm out as if the employee showed up to provide a fingerprint then immediately buggered off home. They even stick to it if the employee was working within a manager's view all day. When the system first went on line, the sheer number of workers not getting their full pay was astronomical. It's calmed down a lot after some work on the system but it still happens occasionally and the rule is still in force.

So, no, I wouldn't let an employer chip me as most of them can't be trusted to get it right. I mean, who they hell wants to be chipped by the lowest bidder.

IStandWithPosie · 12/11/2018 10:30

Why is it ok to microchip cats, who have no choice, but not ok to chip people?

So you can identify the OWNER when you find one in your car engine. Humans don’t have owners.

lljkk · 12/11/2018 10:30

... that's weird, no matter how senior you are at my work, you still need your identity card to get access to buildings & parking. I can (& have!) dropped my card somewhere. Colleagues sometimes forget theirs.

Not 'selling your health info' is why the NHS is so not-joined up & so difficult to track patient history & provide up-to-date care.

Bellabonkers · 12/11/2018 10:33

Animals are chipped solely in case they get lost. Cats and dogs are smart but I'm yet to come across one that can speak or write down it's address or mobile phone number Smile

Hesta54 · 12/11/2018 10:33

I worked for a large company that you had to wear a name badge with a chip in it, it was a sackable offence not to have it on during work time on the premises, you were tracked all day and had a weekly print of where you had been and how long you had been there for, to long on breaks or in the toilet you would get a warning, welcome to the future
