To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak

It's 11 hours after the event, but at the cenotaph amongst all of the black coats stood Jeremy Corbin in a blue anorak with hood flapping, is this really the best he could do?

It's a bit silly to blame him for the schools he attended.
It's London; it's November so a bit chilly. It's England, so rain is a possibility.
I've followed this thread, because I can't believe how worked up some people are over such a trivial matter.
He wasn't naked; he wasn't wearing a baseball cap backwards; he wasn't looking at his phone.

Veryfinethreadmyfriend · 13/11/2018 19:43

Limensoda he has benefited from his start in life and all those things which he now so vocally objects to. His ‘for the many, not the few’ is an admirable objective but I’m afraid it does feel hypocritical when he himself is ‘the few’ however much he tries to disguise it.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/11/2018 19:46

It’s so contrived

I care more about the people that my appearance and I’m so down with the working classes Hmm

Firstbornunicorn · 13/11/2018 19:46

@derxa obviously you were extremely offended by Theresa May's showing in 2015, then. Bright turquoise coloured coat and the same type of poppy pin.

KissingInTheRain · 13/11/2018 19:47

It’s the pettiness of the man that’s so striking.

National ceremony to remember the war dead? Attended by the establishment?

“I know. I’ll wear a shitty fucking anorak - that’ll stick it to ‘em!”

Ohb0llocks · 13/11/2018 19:47

@HauntedPencil I haven't said cagoule in a while. It's a word that doesn't get used enough imo. CORBYNS COOL CAGOULE

derxa · 13/11/2018 19:51

He is there representing the Opposition party to the government. He is not there to represent Jeremy Corbyn. The job of the Opposition is to hold the government to account and his aim should be to get elected to be Prime Minister. He needs the votes of the swing voters who are centre ground. Some of those voters will look at his behaviour and coat and think no not for me. What do you think Keir Starmer or Tom Watson would have worn?

NoSuchThingAsAlpha · 13/11/2018 19:52

Exactly, Enthusiasm.

It's not like he forgot his black coat, or had no-one around him to suggest that a blue anorak was a bit inappropriate. It was a deliberate choice. He was saying "I'm different. I'm not one of these people."

Rather cynical imho.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/11/2018 19:54

Why does that make him a hypocrite?
Do you think people born into middle class or upper class homes cannot believe in socialism? So, working class people cannot or should not become Tory MPs?

What makes him a hypocrite is that he doesn’t recognise that this is what many aspire to. And what makes him so out of touch with the working class is that most want something of what he has had that those at the top get less most don’t care that much just want a piece of it

DappledThings · 13/11/2018 19:54

Or, like me and lots of other people he thought, "solemn occasion, might rain. Need to wear a dark, weather-appropriate coat". Which he did.

The determination of people to insist that it was some kind of contrived statement is just bizarre.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/11/2018 19:55
  • they just want a piece of it .....
NotACleverName · 13/11/2018 19:57

Pettiness, making a political point, look at his behaviour, willfully subverts dressing protocols... etc.

Honest to god, do some of you even read what you write on here? You're putting 2 + 2 together and coming up with utter batshit bollocks. To draw these conclusions from the colour of someone's fucking coat is so far beyond ridiculous it's untrue.

HauntedPencil · 13/11/2018 19:59

You can't say they are in touch with the working class really. Look at the way the demographics are shifting.

PlainVanilla · 13/11/2018 19:59

It was a very poor show, but what else do you expect from the party that wrecked the UK?

cansu · 13/11/2018 20:00

I had to google this story and couldn't quite believe he was being criticised for wearing a grey coat! What a load of shit. The colour of your coat means absolutely nothing about your feelings for those who died in the war. This kind of rubbish actually cheapens the whole event and makes it more about appearances than genuine feeling.

HauntedPencil · 13/11/2018 20:00

Looks out, it's spitting

Right lads let's get the cagoule out.

HauntedPencil · 13/11/2018 20:01

It's bollocks to say it cheapens the event.

You are being JUST as histrionic as some of the people criticising his outerwear

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/11/2018 20:03

I said he was out of touch in thinking working class people don’t aspire to ha e what he has had and care more that those like himself have less

I don’t think many think that way most people aspire to want better in their life

Veryfinethreadmyfriend · 13/11/2018 20:04

Yes enthusiasm! Someone else’s who gets it! All those saying ‘it’s just a fcking coat you’re missing the point!
And eddie I’m not ‘blaming him’ for attending those schools. There is nothing to blame so I don’t really understand your point. There’s nothing wrong with attending those schools. Your comment sounds remarkable like Corbyn’s opinions on ‘those schools’ and therefore proves my point quite nicely!

cansu · 13/11/2018 20:05

You are right - I am histrionic. It is ridiculous to comment on the non story of 'man wears coat at outdoor service'. I shall refrain from further comment.

missbloomsbury · 13/11/2018 20:05

notaclevername

It’s not his fucking coat that angers me, that’s his choice. it’s his respect at the cenotaph coat which was predictably inappropriate. Cometh the hour, cometh the man in a deliberately unsuitable coat. He knew it would raise hackles. WHEN IN A POSITION OF INFLUENCE, WHAT YOU WEAR IS IMPORTANT!

KissingInTheRain · 13/11/2018 20:06

To draw these conclusions from the colour of someone's fucking coat is so far beyond ridiculous it's untrue.

I think it’s more that the coat looks more like something a member of the Ramblers Association would wear for a brisk stroll than what would be expected to be worn by a senior politician at the most solemn annual event of all.

DappledThings · 13/11/2018 20:09

Cometh the hour, cometh the man in a deliberately unsuitable coat

Unsuitable in your opinion. In that of lots of us it was entirely suitable. So you are making the assumption that firstly he also thinks a dark, weather appropriate coat was unsuitable and secondly he decided to make a point by wearing it.

It's fucking ridiculous. I'd have worn a waterproof coat on a day like yesterday even if I was the prime minister and it wouldn't have been any kind of statement.

iamyourequal · 13/11/2018 20:10

missbloomsbury ffs he’s a member of the government not a 7 year old!

Which government is he a member of? Confused

KissingInTheRain · 13/11/2018 20:12

A dark blue Legoland rain poncho would have “weather appropriate” as well. No doubt you think that would have been OK.
