Is this weird?

DH insists on serving garlic bread with chilli con carne and rice.
I think it's disgusting and totally weird, just tastes wring together.
Who is being unreasonable him or me?

MingoMingo · 10/11/2018 18:54

You are being unreasonable. Garlic bread is delicious with anything Grin

ScreamingValenta · 10/11/2018 18:54

Neither of you - it's a matter of taste! I am with your husband and I think the two go well together, although it makes the meal rather carb heavy.

Cornettoninja · 10/11/2018 18:55

I don’t have garlic bread with chilli but not for any particular reason - it’s just never come up. I think it sounds alright.

Just don’t eat it, it’s not like it’s mixed in.

Whiskeyjar · 10/11/2018 18:56

I worked in a nursery and one of the meals served to the children was chilli Von carne with garlic bread. It's quite a normal combination but depends what you like!

PrincessConsuelaBananahamm0ck · 10/11/2018 18:57

YANBU. Garlic bread - yes. Chilli - yes. Together - weird.

Snomade · 10/11/2018 18:58

Mmmm garlic bread....

00100001 · 10/11/2018 18:59

You and him both.

it should be cheesy garlic bread, otherwise...what's the point??

AnyFucker · 10/11/2018 19:00

Rice or garlic bread. Not both.

PurpleDaisies · 10/11/2018 19:00

Garlic bread is a totally normal thing to have with chilli. So is rice.

iklboo · 10/11/2018 19:00

I've had garlic bread (with cheese) on top of beef stew before now. It was lovely.

Ohyesiam · 10/11/2018 19:00

half of the non European cuisines in the world have garlic and chilli as dominant flavours. It can’t be so wrong.

loveka · 10/11/2018 19:02

I would do cornbread. It is gorgeous.

It might be a good compromise?

VladmirsPoutine · 10/11/2018 19:03

Of course it's not weird.

Or is this supposed to be one of those light-heaarted threads in which the OP is encouraged to divorce, ban or bury her husband under the patio over some innocuous reason? e.g "DH bought me Dairy Milk from Tesco - AIBU to change the locks" cue much hilarity and posters spitting out their wine.

spannablue · 10/11/2018 19:04

Yabu about the garlic bread but anything is ruined for me if it contains kidney beans

revelsandrose · 10/11/2018 19:06

I like garlic bread, and I like chilli con carne but mixing them is wrong.
It's not the double carbs that's my problem, they just don't go, chilli is Mexican and garlic bread is italian, just no.Grin

revelsandrose · 10/11/2018 19:07

VladmirsPoutin, it is light hearted and I genuinely wanted opinions on whether people usually eat the two together. So I could tell him I'm right!

OP posts:
Gardai · 10/11/2018 19:09

Not weird at all. I love warm crusty bread, cheese and chilli although I’m not a fan of rice.

PositivelyPERF · 10/11/2018 19:09

Now there’s an idea. A wonderful friend has just given me some chilli con carne and rice. Garlic bread sounds perfect.

Alfie190 · 10/11/2018 19:10

I wouldn't mix the two cuisines but it wouldn't bother me if somebody else did.

Gardai · 10/11/2018 19:11

Mixing cuisines makes life exciting...go on, live a little Wink

anniehm · 10/11/2018 19:12

I've seen it served together in pubs and cafes so it's obviously an English thing, a bit like lasagna and chips. Personally I serve it with tortilla chips and soured cream as well as rice. It doesn't matter so why fight it?

Kidssendingmenuts · 10/11/2018 19:13

You are!!! Of course you have to have a portion of garlic bread with chilli and rice! Even go crazy and add cheese on top too! In fact go bat shit and have cheese ON the garlic bread! X

selepele · 10/11/2018 19:14

Italians usually serve garlic bread with spag bol learnt that at a restaurant thought it is too much though

Pinkprincess1978 · 10/11/2018 19:25

I wouldn't serve it as if we are having bread with chilli we have tortilla wraps or chips.

However if severed it by someone else I would eat it. Garlic bread is delicious so can't imagine it not going with many things

Maelstrop · 10/11/2018 19:27

Totally normal! Sometimes I do lasagna with garlic bread, same difference, surely?
