The price of concert tickets - Jesus wept!

I've not been to a concert/gig for decades. No childcare, live in the middle of nowhere, lack of money blah blah ...

Anyway, DH and I decided to splash out and go to see Fleetwood Mac at Wembly Stadium. I've just looked at tickets - the cheapest (crap) ones are £250 and they go up to over £1000 Shock

And it's not even the full Fleetwood Mac - they've sacked Lindsay Buckingham!

Would you pay this much to see anyone? What do you normally pay for gigs?

I wouldn’t pay four pence to see anyone in a stadium. Saw Bruce at the Etihad a couple of years ago. No atmosphere.

I will now only see bands if they are in an old style theatre. Which limits my choice somewhat. So I stick to ballet and plays.

MrsTommyBanks · 10/11/2018 16:50

I feel your pain. I desperately want to see The Cure live. I've loved them since I was a teen.
The prices of the tickets were ridiculous. I couldn't justify spending so much. So The Cure will stay on my bucket list Sad

AngeloMysterioso · 10/11/2018 16:53

I paid £160ish for two Foo Fighters tix at the Olympic Stadium. Got two Taylor Swift tix on Gumtree for £100 which I think had face value of £150 or more. Have a look on Twickets/Gumtree closer to the time, there’s always some going cheap even if the seats are a bit rubbish.

I wouldn’t pay £250 for a ticket unless it’s to Glastonbury tbh

foldinggardenchair · 10/11/2018 16:54

Crikey! I just bought tickets to see a-ha next year ( been on the bucket list since 1984 ha ha!) and I was gritting my teeth at £60 a ticket. Tickets starting at £250 is just ridiculous!
I think 'Rumours of Fleetwood Mac' tribute band are touring at the moment.

foldinggardenchair · 10/11/2018 16:55

Or was it 1985? I'm getting old

redsummershoes · 10/11/2018 16:55

yanbu
I would pay up to 100£ for a band/orchestra I really want to see. no more.
it's extortionate.

Thingsdogetbetter · 10/11/2018 16:56

I avoid 'concerts' and most definitely stadium one's. Worked out Pink will make £13 million from ticket sales for one show (before costs of course)!! One fregging night's work. Wtf.

But I go to a lot of gigs. £20 max. Small venues have more atmosphere anyway. Grin

Unfortunately if you want to see a big name, you pay the big bucks!

aussielivingabroad · 10/11/2018 16:56

I paid £140 for a pair of tickets for Fleetwood Mac a few years ago & it was amazing. Luckily it was for the full line up. I did contemplate for this tour but thought prices were extortionate.

Hohocabbage · 10/11/2018 16:57

Foldinggardenchair I’ve paid £210 for the same band Sad

BonnieF · 10/11/2018 17:01

It’s just business. While demand for tickets for live entertainment far exceeds supply, artists and sporting organisations will charge what the market will stand. If people are prepared to pay £250 per ticket and the gig sells out, then the market has justified the price.

RebootYourEngine · 10/11/2018 17:01

YANBU. My closest stadium venue is about 150 miles away. So i grudge paying anything over about £60 (and thats for a band i realy want to see) because i will also have to pay to get there and also pay for a hotel.

HazelBite · 10/11/2018 17:02

Ds has just paid nearly 300 for his partner to see the Spice Girls.

I fancied seeing Bon Jovi, but the cost of tickets was just mad and I'm not so keen on stadium venues, prefering somewhere like the Brixton Academy

areyoubeingserviced · 10/11/2018 17:02

I only go to smalli intimate gigs

Beingginger · 10/11/2018 17:04

I paid to £172 for 2 tickets to see Ed Sheeran earlier this year which was ridiculous, and that was from ticketmaster when they went on sale, not from a reseller. He was really good though.
Years ago my friends and I used to pay £10-£20 to go and see a band at the weekend.
I paid £24 to see Bon Jovi in 1996!

shoofly · 10/11/2018 17:04

Bryan Adams next Feb, £65 for ticket plus another £6:50 booking fee Shock hope it's worth it!

YouTheCat · 10/11/2018 17:05

I'm going to see Ozzy Osbourne in February. Think tickets were about £60 each. Might have been more. Same for Iron Maiden back in July.

Usually pay about £30-£45 for theatre tickets.

Purpletigers · 10/11/2018 17:06

I wouldn’t pay those prices to see anyone . I’d pay up to £40 for theatre tickets .

Purpletigers · 10/11/2018 17:07

And people complain about not having any money 😂

Youcouldbemysilversprings · 10/11/2018 17:07

We priced Dublin tickets and they were much cheaper, you could probably do a night in Dublin with flights and hotel for cheaper! Fleetwood mac are outstanding live, but only with Lindsay, he was the highlight for me, his acoustic guitar version for big love makes my hairs stand up on the back of my neck!!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/11/2018 17:08

I'm going to see Bon Jovi and Billy Joel at Wembley next year and it's costing me over £450 for 2 tickets for each night. It's ridiculous. I rarely go to concerts though, the last one was Billy in 2016.

Zippytydoodar · 10/11/2018 17:09

I was looking at the spice girls tickets earlier, £150 each! No way, they're not that good!
I've paid £80 to see Take that next year but only because they're in my home town.

I would pay £100 + to see Bette Midler again, I saw her live a few years ago and she was fantastic!

LoudestRoar · 10/11/2018 17:11

I paid for my sister's and I to see The Foos on their latest tour. Was about £70 per ticket, but we've wanted to see them for years. It was amazing!

TheFaerieQueene · 10/11/2018 17:12

Pink I’m going to see Bon Jovi at Wembley too. See you there!!

Cocolepew · 10/11/2018 17:18

Im going to see The Revolution in Feb, at Shepherds Bush Empire. I think the tickets were about £52. It's working out expensive though because I'm coming over from Belfast.
I saw Neil Diamond last year, the ticket was over £90 but my mum paid for it.

huggybear · 10/11/2018 17:21

I've never paid more than £100 a ticket and I've seen most big bands and artists from the noughties and teenies.

£250 for Fleetwood Mac? Ridiculous. But I guess they know their audience.
