The price of concert tickets - Jesus wept!

I've not been to a concert/gig for decades. No childcare, live in the middle of nowhere, lack of money blah blah ...

Anyway, DH and I decided to splash out and go to see Fleetwood Mac at Wembly Stadium. I've just looked at tickets - the cheapest (crap) ones are £250 and they go up to over £1000 Shock

And it's not even the full Fleetwood Mac - they've sacked Lindsay Buckingham!

Would you pay this much to see anyone? What do you normally pay for gigs?

Not all artists fleece their fans, though most seem to. Ticket for Paul Heaton in a couple of weeks £30 each. Local indie artist "pay as you like".
I've paid silly money for gigs over the years. Wouldn't pay over £100 for stadium though, not for anyone.

VassalageorChaos · 10/11/2018 17:24

@foldinggardenchair - I've just watched Rumours of FM on YouTube - the two women sound better than Christine and Stevie do now! And they're coming to a venue near me - going to book a couple of tickets. Thanks Grin

Worked out Pink will make £13 million from ticket sales for one show (before costs of course)!! One fregging night's work. Wtf

It's not one nights work though, is it?

LizzieBennettDarcy · 10/11/2018 17:29

We live in Gloucestershire so have to travel miles for concerts, and it means hotel overnight and travelling. We rarely do it these days due to the costs.

Racecardriver · 10/11/2018 17:29

I wouldn’t go to a stadium gig if the tickets were free. Don’t understand why anyone would.

magoria · 10/11/2018 17:32

I wanted to see Meat Loaf the other year. Expensive for a ticket half a mile away at the top and back of the stadium or mega bucks for something a little closer.

I didn't go in the end. Shame but stupid money.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 10/11/2018 17:33

Going to a gig used to be cheaper than buying an album. As a student in the 80s I went to loads of gigs, then maybe, if I liked the band, bought their record. but artists don't make much money from selling music now so they make it from their gigs.

bigbluebus · 10/11/2018 17:34

I've seen Rumours of Fleetwood Mac OP and they were fantastic - I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Foslady · 10/11/2018 17:35

Like other have said, unless you live locally the ticket price is only the start of it.......
It’s not just bands though - Greg Davis tickets were £56 the other year........I saved my cash and watched on Netflix a few years later

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/11/2018 17:35

Faerie I can't wait, I've never seen them before. I'm just gutted that the website crashed when I had really good seats in my basket!

tempname111 · 10/11/2018 17:36

The most I've paid is £100. It was Babs though and totally worth it.

Paid £50 for Simply Red (Stars anniversary) and I was sooo disappointed. Wish I'd stayed at home

Seafoodeatit · 10/11/2018 17:36

YANBU, especially without Lindsay. That is crazy! Is that directly from the venue? that sounds very high for face value even for fleetwood mac! I think £100 each would be absolute limit for me but usually I don't pay more than £70 tops each, we rarely go though.

DistanceCall · 10/11/2018 17:39

Well, given that people no longer buy CDs and many just download song illegally off the Internet, musicians have to make money somehow.

thecatsthecats · 10/11/2018 17:40

I got two tickets to The Cure for 130 quid last year, which I thought was reasonable, and trust me, they CRAMMED songs into the show - most of their greatest hits and a fair few others. Their setlists from the tour were 25-30 songs long every night. Well worth it I'd say.

My sister and I agreed we'd probably not enjoy Queen for over 100 quid each though, so we're going to pick a recommended covers band. Bootleg Beatles were amazing after all.

Mailfuckoff · 10/11/2018 17:40

I've just paid a lot to take dc to see disney Broadway at Royal Albert Hall, however I really like live music and this will have a full orchestra and I'm hoping my dc will love it

tillytoodles1 · 10/11/2018 17:46

My daughter's just paid over £600 for two tickets to see Elton John in New York. She lives in the UK so she's got air fares on top.

Darkstar4855 · 10/11/2018 17:46

I wouldn’t go to a stadium gig after going to one at the O2 for the first time last year. The acoustics were crap, the atmosphere was flat and I could hardly see the band because of all the people in front of me holding cameras, phones, ipads etc. over their heads to film it.

I’m sticking to festivals from now on: the atmosphere is amazing, you get to see a range of good bands for the same amount of money and you have the option of glamping or B&B off site if you want secent accommodation.

SleepWarrior · 10/11/2018 17:47

Not a concert but I saw tickets for the hungry caterpillar pop up at a local theatre. Tickets were nearly £50 each and it wasn't even an hour long. So £250 for 45 mins entertainment for a family of five. No chance!

Titsywoo · 10/11/2018 17:50

I paid £145 to see Guns N Roses last year - I didn't like the Olympic Stadium though, prefer the O2 for atmosphere although the sound is a bit shite. Most I've paid was £400 to see Phil Collins but that was in a private box at the Royal Albert Hall and included loads of food and drinks.

Tupperwarelid · 10/11/2018 17:51

It’s not just the cost of the tickets though is it? It’s the booking fees and admin fees they add on top. They can be extortionate and for what? You book online and they email the tickets. It’s disgusting.

DeltaG · 10/11/2018 17:56

I've just paid £78 to see the Spice Girls next year!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 10/11/2018 17:56

YANBU - it annoys me when people think opera is elitist when tickets for concerts are similar prices.

eggsandwich · 10/11/2018 17:57

I love Fleetwood Mac but their tickets are always expensive and the fact that Lindsay Buckingham who was one of the main members in the group and is not in the line up makes it even more expensive.

I’ve heard the replacement members sing and they sound awful, I’m amazed that they’re happy with how they sound with the new members.

GrandTheftWalrus · 10/11/2018 17:58

I paid 60 to go see the foo fighters at murrayfield in Edinburgh 3 years ago and it was amazing. Was a bucket list for me.

We have paid 80 for 2 of us to go see Bill Bailey in May.

There is a festival near us and this year queen and Adam Lambert played at it. So I watched them. While getting paid hehe.

I have a feeling the foos are going to headline this year when I'm going to be in Ireland working.
