Is this dinner really that bad?

Im home alone tonight and really can't be bothered cooking.
Had leftover cauliflower cheese so heated it up and added a tin of tuna.

My mum just rang and basically said it sounded disgusting.
It tasted fine. Does it sound that vile?

Tuna and cauliflower; tuna and cheese; cheese and cauliflower.

Only one of these combinations is less than revolting.

But when you've eaten CWP replacement meals they probably all taste delicious in comparison.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 09/11/2018 20:39

@ryderwhiteswan please can I have that recipe?

It's not a meal I'd have thought of putting together but I suppose it's not that different to my cheesy veg and tuna bake.

Which is a mix of veg instead of just cauliflower. I don't normally add tuna but I have a couple of times.

kitkatsky · 09/11/2018 20:39

lol, erm I wouldn't eat that combo but I am eating a frozen food feast sans veggies! So yeah, you're healthy at least!

tillytoodles1 · 09/11/2018 20:45

I hate tuna, I'd have just eaten the cauliflower cheese.

Unicyclethief · 09/11/2018 20:46

I wouldn’t like it because I don’t like warm tuna, but it sounds like normal food to me, it is common to have cauliflower in cheeses sauce and people do tuna in mornay sauce, so what’s the difference bunging them both together. I am alone for the next week and will really enjoy eating weird combinations that no one but me would love!

RyderWhiteSwan · 09/11/2018 20:57

@Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom (amazing username! Grin)

Alas I cannot remember the recipe or where I found it - but those were the main ingredients, mashed together with a potato masher then baked. Sounds dry....maybe butter was involved. Sorry I can't be of more help, but if I find it in my ancient recipe books I'll put it here or PM you.

LynetteScavo · 09/11/2018 20:59

Yes, it sounds vile. You should have smothered it in ketchup any normal person.

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 09/11/2018 22:36

@biggerboat1 I am actually crying with laughter at "a bit cat-foody". My DH is getting really pissed off with me cos I won't stop laughing Grin

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 10/11/2018 00:55

This was meant to be my Halloween namechange but I think I might keep it. Grin

Thanks Ryder, that's really nice of you, I hope you do find it, it sounds yummy!

Blondebakingmumma · 10/11/2018 03:24

I’d eat it!

Ohshitwhatnext · 10/11/2018 03:33

Cat foody? Christ, my cat would slaughter me if I dared offer his highness cauliflower cheese!

mathanxiety · 10/11/2018 03:55

Did you add a few drops of Tabasco to the tuna? If yes, then excellent.

I vote you keep your brilliant Hallowe'en username, Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom.

MarcieBluebell · 10/11/2018 04:09

I'd love this. So want this. But I only have broccoli, cheese and tinned salmon. Might give that a go.

Petalflowers · 10/11/2018 04:18

Left over meals are the best. I would probably do so,thing similar.

tildaMa · 10/11/2018 04:21

Marcie, broccoli&salmon bake with crispy cheese? NOM!

A580Hojas · 10/11/2018 05:20

Yes I'm with your Mum I'm afraid op! Fish and cheese don't go together. Tuna and cauliflower don't go together either! Couldn't you have done a nice jacket potato?

mathanxiety · 10/11/2018 05:33

Salmon cakes with broccoli on the side, tossed with a lemon/Greek dressing? Do you have breadcrumbs, mayonnaise or an egg, and a little onion of any kind to finely chop? Use the lemony dressing for the salmon cakes too.

Alfie190 · 10/11/2018 06:15

The tin can f tuna bot to s disgusting and doesn't go. Cauliflower cheese is fine though.

Alfie190 · 10/11/2018 06:16

Sorry for typos on phone and it is dark!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/11/2018 06:31

Sounds all right to me!
I think you should invite your mum over and feed it to her, without telling her what it is - when she asks, you can give it some posho name that you've made up and once she's eaten it you can tell her what it was.

That should shut her up! (assuming she ate it without complaint, of course)

pippitysqueakity · 10/11/2018 07:34

couldn’t you have done a nice jacket potato?
Sure op could have if they had wanted.
They also could have done a roast dinner, had fish and chips or a salad. But didn’t.
OP, nothing is wrong with your choices, eat what makes you happy, no need to explain to anyone.

JustJoinedRightNow · 10/11/2018 08:00

That dinner sounds totally fine OP.

You mentioned a few things about your Mum, anything you want to get off your chest? Just sounds like there might be and we could listen

Knittink · 10/11/2018 08:05

Sounds fine to me. Nothing wrong with fish and cheese or fish and cauliflower. I actually made a smoked haddock, cauliflower and potato gratin for dinner last night (Mary Berry recipe) which is sort of a similar idea. It was bloody delicious - even the fussy dc thought so. So MB seems to think fish, cauliflower and cheese go together!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/11/2018 08:06

Agog at those saying it's fine Grin it actually makes me feel sick just thinking about it. I love cauliflower cheese and tuna but together? 🤢🤢🤢 the consistency alone would make me heave!

Butteredghost · 10/11/2018 08:53

Sound fine to me. I had macaroni and cheese plus can of tuna tonight, and mac n cheese and cauliflower and cheese is pretty similar. Except cauliflower would be heathlier so I'll try that instead next time.
