Don't know how many of you watched the Adrian Chiles documentary about drinking recently but, for those of you, who didn't, I think he said he often drinks more than 100 units of alcohol per week.

For context, here is what a unit of alcohol means - www.drinkaware.co.uk/alcohol-facts/alcoholic-drinks-units/what-is-an-alcohol-unit/

My son told me one of his classmates said that his mum and dad share a bottle of wine each every night. My hairdresser told me she drinks 2 bottles of wine a week.

I drink a glass of wine a week but was surprised to discover recently that this is still more than 50% of women in this country!

Should I really be concerned about one small glass of wine per once a week????? Shock

I'm not a big drinker casually. I don't drink anything week-by-week but occasionally have trips away, a night out or a girly weekend where I'll drink a lot, probably about 20 units on a night out or 40 over a weekend - and that's maybe every other month.

ScabbyHorse · 09/11/2018 16:53

I have about five pints of ale and half a bottle of wine a week.

Elephant17 · 09/11/2018 16:56

I drink only once a week but definitely have a good few on that one day or evening! I didn’t drink at all for 2 years due to pregnancy and breastfeeding and I feel fresher for not drinking most of the week. Pre pregnancy I drank too much. I do enjoy alcohol though and enjoy letting my hair down once a week! Luckily my drink of choice happens to be low alcohol because I have a fair few 😬

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 09/11/2018 16:58

shit loads Sad I am basically an alcoholic

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 09/11/2018 16:58

6 units a week, and yes, I measure them! I have a double gin & tonic on a Friday and a Saturday, 40%+ gins are 1.5 units per 35mls measure. I will usually swap the spirits for champagne on special occasions but I still measure the quantities very carefully to ensure I don't go over. I don't drink other wine at all, nor beer/lager/cider.

YouWereRight · 09/11/2018 17:02

When I go out, so may 2, or 3 times per week. I don't enjoy drinking at home, alone fun.

Dp drinks a couple of bottles of beer per night. Probably more, but as he works away I can't be sure.

YouWereRight · 09/11/2018 17:06

That should say 2 or 3 times per year! Not week!

lilybetsy · 09/11/2018 17:06

nothing at all. Was a lot in the past but stopped march 2016 and been teetotal since then.. feel much better for it

ineedwine99 · 09/11/2018 17:06

I drink about 2 and half bottles of red wine a week, plus maybe 2 large baileys a week. I don't feel i drink too much, I'm never drunk and what i have doesn't affect me other than relaxing me. I still wake up normally, no hangovers and it doesn't hinder my parenting ability.
I just enjoy the taste of wine and baileys. Shame no good for the waistline

CryHavoc · 09/11/2018 17:08

Quite a lot. But I enjoy it. A bottle of wine at least three times a week, sometimes more. But I work hard, eat well, and exercise every day. There are worse things I could be doing in the evenings.

Perfectpanda01 · 09/11/2018 17:16

Probably 1.5 bottles of wine a week if that, sometimes less, sometimes a bit more.

MountainPeakGeek · 09/11/2018 17:17

Either 2 bottles of red wine a week, or sometimes one bottle of wine and around 3-4 beers (different evenings). DH and I basically drink every Friday and Saturday night, and if it's wine, we would get through 2 bottles between us. It's over the healthy limit, I believe, but not that excessive IMHO.

VeryQuaintIrene · 09/11/2018 17:20

My partner and I d were drinking too much and cut down massively to only Friday and Saturday. I feel pleased with my ability for self-control but annoyed that I don't feel better on the new regime (I felt absolutely fine before, but feel somehow that I should now be rewarded with feeling absolutely AMAZING all the time).

SoftlyCatchyMonkey1 · 09/11/2018 17:22

I would say I average about 15-20 units a week
Every now and then I'll have a week off and I do dry January every year

PinkHeart5914 · 09/11/2018 17:22

No set amount really.

I drink if and when I want too. I’ve had none all week but planning on a couple of gins and few glasses of fizz tonight then who knows when I’ll drink next

anniehm · 09/11/2018 17:30

Me, not a lot - I do drink but unless we have guests or I'm eating out I tend to make a cup of tea or drink water. Dh on the other hand drinks a bottle of wine plus maybe 3 or 4 bottles of beer a week plus anything had out, however he actively avoids alcohol 1-2 nights a week and has cut down from peak consumption more to do with a developing beer gut than anything else.

Rememberallball · 09/11/2018 17:35

A few bottles between us a week, don’t count - and, if I’m bluntly honest, I don’t really care if it’s allegedly ‘too much’ according to the nanny state!!

Normandy144 · 09/11/2018 17:36

We drink on Friday and Saturday nights. Usually a G+T or cocktail and then 1 to 2 bottles of wine between us each night. Sunday i might have a glass or. 2 of wine with dinner but that's all and not always.

Yousignup · 09/11/2018 17:38

I drink maybe 3 or 4 glasses a year - birthdays etc.
STBEH drinks 2 bottles of wine per night, plus beer. Never spirits though, because he's not an alcoholic, according to him.

Celebelly · 09/11/2018 17:38

I stopped drinking about three years ago, but before that I mostly just binge-drank on nights out, so I could go a month without any alcohol and then have a night where I'd have a bottle of wine, cocktails, etc. So not overly healthy (but good fun!).

I'm pregnant now anyway so not thinking about alcohol, but I might go for the odd glass of wine in the evenings once she's here. That said, I haven't really missed drinking in the three years since I stopped (I had an awful hangover and didn't drink for a few months as it had made me so ill, then realised I didn't miss it and just carried on) so I might just continue as is.

Celebelly · 09/11/2018 17:40

I meant to add that my DP rarely drinks too, so it's never been something social we've done as a couple.

WhatHaveIFound · 09/11/2018 17:41

DH and i will share a bottle of wine or have a G&T/beer at the weekend but other than that, not much really. I don't drink if he's working away or if i'm out and driving.

I can take it or leave it at the moment and anything more than half a bottle of wine makes me feel ill.

AnneProtheroe · 09/11/2018 17:41

We've both given up. It was just a habit really, "6pm oh wine o'clock".

Haven't missed it, tbh. Sleeping tons better, too.

Sallystyle · 09/11/2018 17:44

It all depends. I have never been a big drinker and will still happily go out and not drink.

Yet yesterday I drank 7 gins with friends and the day before I had one with my mum. I probably won't drink now for a few weeks.

I certainly drink more now then I have ever done, but that's pink gin for you! I have drank more in the last two months than ever before, but that's just how it worked out. I will have months where I won't drink at all.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 09/11/2018 17:47

A bottle of wine a week. Which is ok in my book.
