The fabric kind? Also pram shoes? I've been judged massively for both recently and want to ask other mums :/

Headbands are pointless and horrid unless you are playing at Wimbledon.

Pram shoes? Why? She's not walking, she doesn't need shoes. Her feet need to wiggle.

YABU.

live in a large 4 bed detached house in rural area worth over £550K,

That would buy you a one bed flat in Fulham where I used to live and having a property worth £550k does not automatically endow you with good taste unfortunately.

Headbands are fugly, look ridiculous and regardless of it being the most hated word on MN - chavtastic.

ChristmasArmadillo · 09/11/2018 16:38

Where I am handmade, hand tied bows and headbands bought for FAR too much money are basically the sign of being “upper class”. Along with small shop organic clothes, etc. My DD loves bows and headbands - it’s just an accessory and someone actively judging a mother for putting one on her child needs something more important to think about.

strumpetblowingatrumpet · 09/11/2018 16:44

I don't care for headbands as per pps, but in this cold weather I do use pram shoes on ds as his little feet can get a bit cold in just socks.

xrebekah · 09/11/2018 16:48

I sometimes put bows in my daughters hair as i think they can make some outfits look cute, i don't let her wear them unsupervised (take them off when sleeping or leaving the room ect.) so there's no strangulation risk.

It's your baby, dress it how you like. Mumsnetters are a very judgy bunch. Take the comments with a pinch of salt

lyndar · 09/11/2018 16:53

@AliceMarie89 people will judge you regardless : your child it's up to you

Cautionsharpblade · 09/11/2018 16:54

I heard someone compare bows on babies to the ribbons that people tie on suitcases. ‘So they can tell which one is theirs’. Grin

MrMakersFartyParty · 09/11/2018 16:56

Pram shoes affect foot development.
Headbands are uncomfortable, risky.

Both like tacky and cheap.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/11/2018 16:57

Even the kid looks unimpressed. No hair, it just looks like you're playing dress up.
More hair and softer looking ones look cute but I'd think special occasion not popping to weekly baby group, otherwise it's back to dress up.

Shoes in this weather to keep them warm, fine if very soft. Anything constricting, no. Mini trainers and high tops etc, bloody awful

I just always remember someone describing babies in headbands as 'looking like hyperactive eggs'. Grin

Cautionsharpblade · 09/11/2018 17:02

Aw that baby in the first photo also has pierced ears. That’s a clue...

LuvSmallDogs · 09/11/2018 17:12

I think headbands look daft on babies as they are either for mopping up sweat or keeping hair out of eyes - neither a concern for newborns generally, and obviously the result of the parents being overly worried she might be mistaken for male despite everything else she owns being pink.

Pram shoes - I don’t see how the ones with soft suede soles or the fabric slipper like ones can be harming foot development?

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 09/11/2018 17:17

I don't see the need for them and think they are tacky, but inoffensive....

MrsTerryPratcett · 09/11/2018 17:33

My DD loves bows and headbands

If she's old enough to 'love' them, she's older than the children we're talking about. On older children, fill your boots. On tiny babies, it's dangerous, please don't.

GummyGoddess · 09/11/2018 17:41

Headbands are dangerous, but pram shoes seem sensible in the cold weather. I have DC in a sling so he can't wear a babygro or tights. He needs an extra layer on his feet, I'd feel cold having just socks on outside.

ChristmasArmadillo · 09/11/2018 17:42

She’s four now, yes, but she hasn’t always been...she wore them as an infant also and never showed any signs of dislike or discomfort or I’d have stopped putting them on.

SoyDora · 09/11/2018 17:42

She ‘loved’ them as a baby then? How did she demonstrate that to you?

saganorenscarandcoat · 09/11/2018 17:43

They both look shit

But that's my opinion

MrMakersFartyParty · 09/11/2018 17:44

But she couldn't have loved them as a baby coukd she?

seven201 · 09/11/2018 17:56

Wow! Who said something to you? I don't like them personally, especially headbands, but I'd never mention it!

SleepingStandingUp · 09/11/2018 18:01

I have DC in a sling so he can't wear a babygro or tightsjust idle curiosity but why not?

Nothisispatrick · 09/11/2018 18:02

just idle curiosity but why not? yea I didn’t understand this either

Biancadelriosback · 09/11/2018 19:16

I used pram shoes as he was a December baby and the nurse at the hospital had a go at me for his feet being cold.

Ca55andraMortmain · 09/11/2018 19:50

I think headbands (the soft, wide fabric kind) are cute.

PhilomenaButterfly · 09/11/2018 20:10

This was 11 years ago drspouse, and she's still here. It was only when we were out, and when we were out she was never out of my sight anyway.
