New neighbors stole our bin

Actually can't believe I'm writing this but I think it's pretty amusing plus I've recently lost the will with pretty much everyone and need to share this before I lose the plot totally. 😂😂😂

New neighbors next door moved in yesterday..... I haven't met them yet...... It was recycling day yesterday and we have two recycling bins clearly marked with our house number on the lid and side of each the bin...... Went on school run as they were still moving in....... Came back home to find they had pinched one of my bins off my drive and stuffed it to full with their packagin brown boxes etc

  1. why?
  2. really why?
  3. I'm really annoyed because I'm going to have to go over there at some point today and ask for my bin back that I have to pay extra for having an additional bin and get to look like a dickhead neighbor being petty about bins. Great start to a new neighbor relationship but I can't let them have it or get away with it can I??
  4. I really wish I was making this up honestly

Go over to the house, explain that both bins are yours and tell them where the nearest recycling centre is. If they get stroppy with you, you know what you're up against. It could have been a genuine mistake. You don't want to get off on the wrong foot with new neighbours. Trust me on this. We actually ended up moving house because of nasty neighbours. It was a living nightmare that went on for 3 years.

dontalltalkatonce · 09/11/2018 19:31

Cancel the cheque! The OP's DP went over to get the bin. He knocked on the door. So he took back the bin! There was no drama, no strops, no getting off on the wrong foot! The bin's back in their possession.

BewareOfDragons · 09/11/2018 19:39

I'm glad your DH took the bin back after emptying it into their own bin and garden. CFs ... they knew it wasn't theirs ... what a way to start off with your neighbours, by stealing from them!

Loyaultemelie · 09/11/2018 19:59

Good for your Dh. I think you must be related to my dh he is the biggest wuss out. He hates confrontation and never says no to anything or anyone and actually sends me to do his dirty work. (Think dodgy blokes selling generators round farms worth thousands for £100. Dh for some reason tells them he's only got £20 on him, instead of no we don't need it, want it, it fell off the back of a lorry. Next he arrives home looking panicked saying "errr I think I've bought a generator" and there's a van in the yard. I have to go out to the big burly blokes and get the £20 back and tell them to fuck off they are on cctv.)

NotBeforeCoffee · 09/11/2018 20:18

Omg what’s with bin theives? Someone on my street nicked my bin and replaced it with their half sized one. Bastards.

Dillydallyer · 09/11/2018 21:09

I’m baffled by the amount of bin thievery in the world!

Mumofthree92 · 09/11/2018 21:11

Same happened to except I was the new neighbour. So moved in had no black bin ordered a new one through local council, after 1st collection one of my neighbours took it and left me there dirty stinking bin. Then every time I take it back they take it every collection. It’s sooooo annoying

MsLexic · 09/11/2018 21:18

I would simply go get my bin, put all the cardboard in a wheelbarrow /bin bag and dump it in their drive.

Rose87777 · 09/11/2018 21:19

Wow I seriously have never (and hope never to!) come across neighbours like a lot of you! All this "i'd dump the rubbish on their front step" bs Shock. Just wait until you can speak to them or even write them a note first before branding them the worlds biggest CFers!!!

TomaszIsMineBitch · 09/11/2018 21:41

Why do people steal bins of all things!
Where i am the bin men will take any extra bins away that are not supposed to be there so its a bit pointless yet people still do it.
My neighbour moved out last week and that very same night someone robbed the bins. They also stole the plant pots and thew the plants on the garden Hmm

CrabbityRabbit · 09/11/2018 22:00

I had a bit of a bin CFery circle going once except it was with a skip.

Some neighbours (not sure which) had a skip, which they quickly filled, left on the street, taking up my usual parking space. It was there for weeks outside my house and wasn't touched. That was a bit cheeky/annoying.

I had an old microwave I wanted rid of and CBA to take it to the tip so after a few weeks I found a space to slot it into the skip in the dead of night. Thus goes my CF behaviour.

Then the next day some scally comes and pilfers my old and rusty microwave back out of the skip again and thus closing the CF circle.

pinkshowerpuff · 09/11/2018 22:02

When my new neighbour moved in it was bin day. I went out for the morning and came home before the tins and glass had been collected. She had swapped our green recycling boxes. When I looked inside there was all kinds of stuff in there, saucepans, kitchen utensils etc (stuff you would think they probably wouldn't take)

I picked it up immediately, knocked on her door and said "this is your recycling box, that is my one..with my house number on, see."

"oh I don't know how that happened..." she said.

buckeejit · 09/11/2018 22:08

This cannot be the end of this story though. I need neighbour interaction, so off you pop OP. I'd still take a bottle of wine & welcome them though 😬

Shewhomustbeobeyed1 · 09/11/2018 22:12

First world problem. It’s marked as yours. Wait til after it’s been emptied then take it back. Problem solved

cheval · 09/11/2018 22:24

Really rude of them, or removal firm. Go round in the morning, calmly and assertively explain that it’s not on to do that. All polite etc. But make sure they know not to make a monkey of you.
Btw. I once had to hunt streets for my recycling bin that someone had made off with. Or maybe mad bin men. Found it eventually. It was quite a moment of reunion!

saffyBoo · 09/11/2018 22:26

I knocked on their door about 8ish and had no answer. Was going to introduce myself etc. Sorry for the anticlimax guys. DH did also try and speak to them yesterday. Next time we catch them outside their house I will make sure everything is smoothed over so to speak. Hopefully they would have forgotten and been so busy/stressed with the move they didn't even realize. also can't believe how.many people have had bin thieves too. What is life 😆🤷🏼‍♀️😱

We accidentally had a bin dispute. We thought that we had paid but the money didn't go through. Instead of politely asking us why things were happening (unbeknownst to us!) They slandered us to everyone including those we thought were paid.

Not every bin problem is a CF!

Whereismumhiding2 · 09/11/2018 22:49

Lol.OP. You and DH handled it perfectly first time. No fuss, no drama, knocked, they didn't answer, you/DH retrieved your paid for bin and neatly returned their rubbish even puttying it in their empty bin! They knew

I'm sure you'll see NDN in good time and say hi. I wouldn't over compensate though as really they need to get on with their NDN too.

VenusClapTrap · 09/11/2018 23:15

When we moved in here there was no bin. Looked everywhere. Sent a message to the previous owner asking where it was; was there a secret bin hiding place we’d missed? She replied saying that you have to buy your own bin, the council doesn’t just give them away, so they’d taken theirs with them.

I couldn’t believe anyone would pack a wheelie bin when moving house! Mind you, they also took the garden pond (all that remained was a big empty hole in the lawn) so I shouldn’t have been surprised.

ShockGrinHmmGrin

I mean that's a whole CF thread in itself!!!! ShockGrin

WinterIsComing84 · 09/11/2018 23:29

Venus I live in an area where the council don't supply bins. I paid £45 for a bin when I moved to my current house. When I move next, of course I'll take it with me. There'll be no bin at the next house, and I'm not paying £45 all over again and waiting for a new bin to be delivered 🤷‍♀️

Whereismumhiding2 · 09/11/2018 23:31

That's terrible Winter . Guessing you're not UK?
Anyway, that wasn't what happened with OP NDNs. They had an empty bin and also stole.OPs clearly labelled bin!

WinterIsComing84 · 09/11/2018 23:36

Whereismumhiding2 Yep, Cornwall.
And I know that's not what this thread is about... I was replying to Venus's comment, a couple up from me 🙂

Whereismumhiding2 · 09/11/2018 23:37

(I meant that's terrible you have to pay £45 for a bin Winter, not that it's terrible you'd take it with you if you had to buy the actual bins themselves!! Our LBC pay for the rubbish /recycle bins but we pay for the garden bins. However it is a charge for the garden waste emptying service each year not the actual garden bins)

Whereismumhiding2 · 09/11/2018 23:39

Nooooo.... Wow!! Naughty Cornwall LBC...
