to feel my niece's birthday 'wish list' has given me hope for the future

Lydiaatthebarre · 07/11/2018 11:34

She's be 11 next Monday and I asked her to email me her 'wish list' so that I could choose something from it.

The list requests:
Pyjamas
A couple of books (named ones that she wants)
A Painting by numbers kit
A new lunch box
A Selection box.

It's the kind of list I could imagine kids drawing up when I was young.

AIBU to be delighted that there are no expensive items, phone accessories, or faddy 'latest must haves' on the list, and to find it quite sweet and uplifting?

She sounds like a nice polite, grateful child, but maybe it's her parents who get the demands for iPhones 😂

Lydiaatthebarre · 07/11/2018 11:38

No, this list was for everyone including her parents.

My 3 x dcs (aged between 7-13) normally write ... 1) chocolate 2) surprises. This sounds lovely but actually is a pain in the arse Grin Your niece’s list is lovely and has actual items on it Smile

tiggerkid · 07/11/2018 18:09

Lovely. My son never asked for iPhones or iPads at 11 either though. It was all Lego, books and other similar things. The phone came 4 years later but he was happy when he got my sister's old one.

Nonetheless, it is very sweet :)

rackhampearl · 07/11/2018 18:11

Excellent. My girl is the same. 7 next month and wants some fabric so we can make mini sleeping bags for all of her figures. It's so lovely when they're like that.

Insertwitticismhere · 07/11/2018 18:15

My 3 year old has asked for a jacket potato Hmm
When questioned apparently it needs to be "not a real tato, a squashy one"
If anyone knows where I might source such an item do let me know!

Avonandice · 07/11/2018 18:22

Insertwitticishere - is it one of those squishie toys that looks like a potatoe?

Avonandice · 07/11/2018 18:23

This type of thing -

Insertwitticismhere · 07/11/2018 18:32

@avonandice yep exactly that but can't seem to find any in stock anywhere!

Insertwitticismhere · 07/11/2018 18:33

@littleowl153 tempting to do her a potato themed Christmas stocking but alas soft Mr Potato head is also out of stock!

Blazeisamonster · 07/11/2018 18:34

Lalalalalalaland · 07/11/2018 18:37

An Amazon alexa
Am electric scooter
A real life horse.

thornyhousewife · 07/11/2018 18:40

Oh that's wonderful. Will you be able to spend time with her on her birthday, I imagine she'd love that Smile

TruJay · 07/11/2018 18:47

Aww I love that Smile

My ds (was 6 at the time) wanted a toothbrush as his MAIN present Grin when I pressed him for more info it was a Star Wars one that flashed, it was £3.99! Was so cute. He once asked for a jar of his favourite jam too. He’s still very sweet now and doesn’t ask for loads.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 07/11/2018 18:52

That's really sweet - she could have been really grabby!

My DS(7) asked Santa for walking boots last year.

Princessmushroom · 07/11/2018 18:53

That’s my wish list too!

KindergartenKop · 07/11/2018 18:55

My DS wants stilts, specifically not those cups on strings because apparently he's mastered those at school.

Mishappening · 07/11/2018 18:55

That is lovely.

One of my DDs wrote a letter to Santa......."Dear Santa, Please could you bring me a brown felt tip pen"

Sob, sob!

Santa did oblige you will be glad to know.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 07/11/2018 19:05

Mishappening my fifteen year old has asked for black felt tip pens/fine liners before today, as she’s deep into the art blackhole and the black pens run out fast! :o

I’ve got her a set for her stocking this year, six different widths of black pen. She’s going to be properly chuffed.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 07/11/2018 19:07

My DD once asked for a magic wand ... a real one, as the ones she already had didn't work Grin

JugglingMummyof2 · 07/11/2018 19:19

I think that is lovely - I have bought my daughter's (14&16) first Christmas presents today - a Friends pajamas gift set for DD1 and a Harry Potter set for DD2 - both from Primark and I know they will love them. It is so nice to see non-grabby kids these days.
