A fairly new one I like is -

Conversations of Inspiration (With Holly Tucker from Not on The Highstreet, some interesting chats with business owners like Johnny Boden & the lady behind Cambridge Satchel Co.)

Also recommend -

Happy Mum, Happy Baby
Happy Place
Table Manners
Is It Just Me?
Films to Be Buried With

As has been mentioned a few times, My Favorite Murder and Last Podcast on the Left (depending on what your tolerance level is for jokes made whilst describing things like child murder...).
You Must Remember This - extremely well researched pod about old Hollywood. The way the host speaks can be a bit jarring a first but you get used to it.
How Did This Get Made? - three actors (including Jason Mantzoukas who you might recognise) plus guests talk about shite films. Try the Sleepaway Camp episode for a taster.

Crime Junkies is brilliant if you enjoy listening to true crime. I also live Real Crime Profile. They are both on Spotify.

Forgive the question - but can anyone please explain to this dinosaur how you access these podcasts?

Some I like that haven’t been mentioned:

Happier with Gretchen Rubin
A slob comes clean
Late night woman’s hour

I only really listen to conversational stuff, not really into stories/crime things.

Londonheaded I get mine via Apple podcasts on my iPhone, but I think you can use other apps such as stitcher.

I listen to pretty standard ones:

The Archers
Friday night comedy
Frank skinner
Desert island discs

But have just discovered, dad wrote a porno, it's very funny although they do go on a bit

Darknet Diaries is probably my favourite at the moment
Guardian Long Reads - variable and I dip in and out of it depending on the topic at hand
Behind the Bastards
Infinite Monkey Cage I'm working through the back catalogue of gradually
No Such Thing as a Fish

I tend to listen to them to fall asleep to - so anything after about the first 15 minutes could be utter shite to be fair.

Mysteries Abound - I listen to it falling asleep. It's intriguing enough to keep my mind safely occupied, but soothing enough not to stop me falling asleep.

I tried listening to Night Vale, and it was all going great until THE MUSIC (loud.) which startled me wide awake. Mysteries Abounds had no ads etc.

Mine are:
Brexitcast - actually makes information about brexit fun
Infinite Monkey Cage - fascinating science with Brian Cox
The High Low - posh girls talk about interesting subjects
Reasons to be Cheerful - Ed Milliband, which he could have been PM and we would not be in this mess now

But really place-marking to come back later and make a list!

Any luck, Londonheaded? Do you have a smartphone?

I'm currently trying to convince my sister to JUST PRESS THE PURPLE BUTTON! She had an iPhone several years before I got one, yet I keep having to explain to her what things like "whatsapp" and "podcasts" are.

Thank you for your kind replies - much appreciated. I have an iPhone and even I managed to PRESS THE PURPLE BUTTONSmile! But I thought I was stuck with what comes up when I do so. Are you saying I can simply search for all the wonderful sounding podcasts described below ? Am off to explore. Thanks!

Nah, it’s Last Podcast on the Left! (though as a PP said, you better have a high tolerance for dark jokes). The episodes they did on Richard Kuklinski, Casey Anthony and Norwegian Black Metal are hilarious!

Adam Buxton's podcast is awesome. He interviews an interesting range of people and he's got such a good relaxed style they get onto really interesting topics. I've loved him since the Adam and Joe show, I also love his and Joe's xfm and 6music podcasts.
