Also, Body on the Moor. From Radio 4, describing the investigation into the circumstances of the death of a man found on Saddleworth Moor a few years ago.

I also listen to some stuff on BBC Radio Player that doesn't appear to be podcasted, like the Unbelievable Truth, Mark Steel's In Town, Tom Wrigglesworth stuff, Just a Minute and the occasional episode of Woman's Hour.

The dollop. Mucho swearing but hilarious (listen to the women and transportation one) and educational all in one.

Rich roll (the earlier ones) for life inspiration

Russell Brand- surprisingly good and super interesting ways of looking at the world

Pop over to the Podcast forum. It's in Films and TV (which is a bit weird because Radio is in Fun and Games) - even more great suggestions there.

Radio 4 women's hour, which is very mumsnet.
And the guilty feminist which features a lot of great female stand up as well as political stuff

Answer Me This (Helen and Olly chatting about random questions from listeners. I love them.)

The Allusionist ( just Helen on her own talking about words and language, The one on Icelandic names was fascinating)

Elis James and John Robins.

At first just sounds like two comedians/djs chatting - but it’s so much more than that, very easy to get hooked. Fortunately there’s a large back catalogue to delve into, and quite an impressive community building up around it (big FB group I understand, but I’m not on it so not fully sure what goes on in there, just hear it referenced).

Berkhamsted Revisited. It's something that would probably interest those up to about age 28/30 mostly - it's about growing up in the late 90s / early 00s. Very funny and nostalgic.

I'm already subscribed to so many, there's just not enough hours in the day!

Some I don't think that have been mentioned....

  • Sandra (Just binged this! It's a drama, basically about smart speakers... but better than I've just made it sound)
  • The Untold (personal stories happening in real time - the one where the boyfriend goes missing is particularly gripping)
  • Multi Story (kinda like an English version of This American Life)
  • The Butterfly Effect (Jon Ronson takes a completely different look at the porn industry and the impact it has... some eye-opening stories)

@Koalablue - I'm still trying to get to the end of The Teachers Pet with my OH - it's a fascinating story but sooooo looooong

History of the World in 100 Objects is brilliant, so interesting. And Melvyn Bragg's In Our Time with a back catalogue of about 800 episodes, which should keep you busy for a while.

The Doorstep Murder
Beyond Reasonable Doubt

Both are true murder mysteries. Found them on the BBC Sounds app. Beyond Reasonable Doubt is the Radio 5 investigation into the Kathleen Peterson murder case that is on Netflix called The Staircase. Both podcasts were gripping.

I'm just going to add Sawbones to this excellent list. It's about weird medical history - not very in-depth but often quite interesting and funny. (I'm a little bit disappointed by the book they've just published, though.)

I might be one of the few but I can’t stand My Favourite Murder. It was charming for a while but then their lack of research (I often knew more about the case having listened to the true crime podcasts listed here!) and the hour of rambling about their boring lives turned me Shock
