To ask about Christmas and what you’re buying your 12yo ds’s this year?

This year I’m stumped.

He has an xbox, iPad & phone, books galore, kindle, nerf guns, Lego.

He has no need for a main present this time round. Granted his iPad & iPhone are old but they do the job.

I’ve no idea.

Only recently had a birthday.

Argh!

So, being nosey, what are you buying your 12 year olds this year.

Watching for ideas for 12 year old dgs.
Fortunately he he sports mad so I could fall back on football or rugby related stuff. The only other idea I have is an Echo Dot.

RockYourSocksOff · 06/11/2018 22:46

Not sports mad here unfortunately and has an Echo Dot, they were on offer last year on Black Friday.

He does like his clothes so I could go down that route.

New bike?
I’m buying mine a raspberry pi for his birthday which is mid-December.

thaegumathteth · 06/11/2018 22:47

Ds turns 12 at Christmas I’m pretty stuck too but some ideas :

Ps games
Football strip
Bluetooth speaker
Wireless headphones
Books eg Alex rider , fortnite, Guineas book of records
Tickets for an event
Stuff for his room eg fancy neon strip lighting and new throw
Dressing gown!
New phone case
Ps vouchers
Lego
Harry Potter merchandise

That’s it really. Of course his little sister’s still getting presents which look huge but cps much less than, for example, a video game or voucher.

Thehop · 06/11/2018 22:48

Unfortunately my 13 year old wants money for clothes shopping in the Sales 😭😭

TheWoollybacksWife · 06/11/2018 22:53

DS is 11 but I have his birthday not long after Christmas so I have to get double inspiration.

He's getting (across both celebrations)
PS4 games
A Fortnite funko pop
A power bank (emoji poo )
A footy book
A jar of his favourite sweets
A onesie
A cuddly Fortnite llama
Star Wars blade builder daggers
An ice skating trip
A couple of DVD
A goalkeeper's kit

RockYourSocksOff · 06/11/2018 22:58

I will have to look into the Raspberry Pi. Have heard about it. Think it’s about coding.

Ds has a bike, could get him some accessories for it. Lights would be good now it’s getting darker earlier.

Ooh yes, new dressing gown definitely needed and another tick for Guiness Book of records, bought every year.

TheHop, sounds bliss!

RockYourSocksOff · 06/11/2018 23:01

Ooh yes, Fortnite Llama. Where did you/are you getting this from? Also what’s a Fortnite funko pop?

OP posts:
tumpymummy · 06/11/2018 23:02

What's raspberry pi?! I had a quick look on Amazon and I still don't know! If anyone wants to get a good bluetooth speaker for teenagers i can recommend the Ultimate ears Wonderboom. It's not the cheapest but DD14 has had one for a year and rates it. Plus they come in different colours.

TheWoollybacksWife · 06/11/2018 23:04

Funko pop and other Fortnite merchandise from The Entertainer toy shop. I got the llama from either eBay or amazon a couple of months ago. I'm sure there are loads of sellers.

RockYourSocksOff · 06/11/2018 23:12

Tumpy, it’s to do with coding. I don’t know more than that though.

OP posts:
RockYourSocksOff · 06/11/2018 23:13

Thanks, Woollyback, I’ll take a look.

So far I've bought, Fortnite plush llama. The PS4 Fortnite disc (on pre release later this month) which has game disc, limited edition skins and some vbucks. Monopoly cheaters edition. Adult scooter from decathlon. Football rebounder. Some books. Fortnite pjs. I'll also get a PS4 gift card. Previously I've chosen a picture of a significant event from the previous year and put in a frame or on canvas. There's a fairly expensive barbers near us that he likes, I'll see if they do vouchers, plus hair products.
I need ideas for stocking gifts so watching with interest!

Sowhatifidosnore · 06/11/2018 23:40

Waterstones gift card? Bike? A day out somewhere like Harry Potter world? Sports stuff, games like backgammon, chess, rumminub, some art stuff?

Sowhatifidosnore · 06/11/2018 23:47

Honestly though, I would try to give him time not more stuff. Especially if you can’t think of ANYTHING he needs or wants.

LeMesmer · 07/11/2018 00:00

DS (13), an Atari retro games console, and a GoPro type camera as main presents. He doesn’t have and doesn’t want PS. He will also have -
Guinness book of records
Ripleys believe it or not
Set of Noel Shusterman novels (which I can’t remember the name of!)
Cactus cushion
FIFA World Cup beach towel
Bigfoot minifig
Bigfoot ‘scientific ‘ book
NASA alien files dvd
Women of NASA lego
Some sloth related items- sloth do do list pad (will do it tomorrow!), sloth nano bricks.

Football related stuff - dart flights, lanyard for his school pass, t shirt.
A few other small things not yet bought, probably art stuff.

RockYourSocksOff · 07/11/2018 08:25

Sowhat, I know where you’re coming from. We do in fact spend lots of time together (he’s an only child) and he still LOVES us reading together, that’s never left him. We do lots of things outside of the gadget world.

My DS’s are 11 and 13...we are struggling to come up with ideas! DS11 wants tickets to a Spurs match as his big present and I’ve already bought him Spurs pjs.

DS13 has no clue what he wants. Apart from books, I’m tempted to give him a ticketmaster IOU and he can let me know if there’s a concert or convention or something he wants to go to.

Alwaysbekind2014 · 07/11/2018 08:35

11 year old boy here is getting

A Fitbit Watch
New trainers
New football boots
Some advanced technical Lego set
Star Wars drone
Camera ( a stunt one or something ) 😂
V bucks
PlayStation 4 games
Some clothes ( tracksuits for sports, some smarter clothes and shoes )
He also requested “ mans perfume but not what his dad uses “
😂
And a “ man bag “

Hellohah · 07/11/2018 08:43

With regards to the time thing, I'm doing monthly activities for next year.
So once a month, we will do something just the 2 of us (or with my Mum too).
For example, he loves man vs food, there is a cafe near us that does a chocolate challenge, we're going Go Karting, Go Ape, a ziplining weekend in Wales etc ... it's all stuff we'd do as one offs anyway, just means I'm organised haha. Some of it is free, we had a clear out recently and he refused to throw away his Scooby Doo DVDs, so one month will be a weekend of not getting dressed and watching Scooby Doo (as we don't seem to have a weekend of doing nothing ever). Putting them in envelopes and then doing a treasure hunt type thing on Christmas morning for him to find all the envelopes.

popcornwizard · 07/11/2018 08:43

Does he not write a santa list? We do, they've always been able to write down absolutely anything and if they were lucky they'd get things from the list (always got most of it, just not pigs etc). Fully intend to do this forever.

DearGoodnessIsThatTheTime · 07/11/2018 08:50

@Alwaysbehind2014 can you recommend any technical Lego? I was thinking about Lego Mindstorms- but it’s so expensive and I’m not sure my DS13 would definitely use it. I don’t really understand the different Lego categories

Thanks for all the Fortnite ideas. Christmas presents have fairly changed since my oldest was 13 - only 7 years!

RockYourSocksOff · 07/11/2018 09:22

Some great ideas here.

Ds does eventually write a list but it’s hit and miss.

I think last year he decided to write one a few days before Christmas or he added to it! Hmm

IfOnly, you can purchase VBucks during gameplay on Fortnite.
