AIBU?

My husband has just asked me what rinse aid is

We are both 48 and have been married for 19 years. My husband cleared away supper tonight, which is unusual, and was flummoxed when the dishwasher flashed up that it needed rinse aid. He had absolutely no idea what it meant.
On the one hand I feel unbelievably angry and on the other I feel a complete failure as a feminist. What should I feel?

You should feel like it's time to draw up a more equitable rota for the after-dinner clear up!

Dunno. I am female and have never put rinse aid in my dishwasher. Nor has my DH. No idea why it is needed.

Why do you need to feel anything? Tell him what the rinse aid is, show him where it goes and let him deal with it next time.

Why is it such a big deal?

Do you generally split domestic stuff fairly?

I’ve never used rinse aid and I’ve had various dishwashers for the last 12 years.

I’ve only had a dishwasher a month and I’ve heard of it.

You’ve not failed, he’s just being crap in this particular instance.

Our dishwasher asks for rinse aid but we just ignore it. We use a dishwasher tablet that I think includes it, but I'm fairly certain we'd ignore the demand for rinse aid anyway. The dishes come out clean, so it can't matter too much.

Does he know how to do other household chores?

Worral 😂
If you don’t keep your dishwasher topped up with rinse aid your wine glasses will come out cloudy.
Absolutely essential!

I'm with your husband. No clue what it is. My dishwasher seems to work well enough without it.

Another one who never uses rinse aid. I also would have no idea where it goes. Aren't they all built in now anyway? Otherwise what are all those 5 in 1 tablets?

My husband used a persil tablet in the dishwasher - it was practically foaming out the sides - I wouldn't expect him to know about rinse aid if he couldn't even get his right!! Hmm

I've had several dishwashers. I never use rinse aid.

I have a water softener, so don't need it anyway.

Nor me. We are old school. I dirty the dishes ... OH cleans them. It has worked well for 30 years. 🤷‍♀️
