My husband has just asked me what rinse aid is

We are both 48 and have been married for 19 years. My husband cleared away supper tonight, which is unusual, and was flummoxed when the dishwasher flashed up that it needed rinse aid. He had absolutely no idea what it meant.
On the one hand I feel unbelievably angry and on the other I feel a complete failure as a feminist. What should I feel?

You should feel like it's time to draw up a more equitable rota for the after-dinner clear up!

ApolloandDaphne · 02/11/2018 22:09

Dunno. I am female and have never put rinse aid in my dishwasher. Nor has my DH. No idea why it is needed.

PurpleDaisies · 02/11/2018 22:09

Why do you need to feel anything? Tell him what the rinse aid is, show him where it goes and let him deal with it next time.

Why is it such a big deal?

PurpleDaisies · 02/11/2018 22:10

Do you generally split domestic stuff fairly?

SellFridges · 02/11/2018 22:10

I’ve never used rinse aid and I’ve had various dishwashers for the last 12 years.

Hedgehogblues · 02/11/2018 22:10

I have no idea what rinse aid is

PawPawNoodle · 02/11/2018 22:10

I don't even know what rinse aid is, and have never had a dishwasher demand it of me.

Petitepamplemousse · 02/11/2018 22:10

I never use rinse aid.

WorraLiberty · 02/11/2018 22:11

Sounds like a fundraising concert

NotUmbongoUnchained · 02/11/2018 22:11

I’ve never heard of it either!

Yerroblemom1923 · 02/11/2018 22:12

I've never used rinse aid. Don't know what it does or where to put it!

3luckystars · 02/11/2018 22:12

What type of dishwasher do you have?

AmateurSwami · 02/11/2018 22:13

I’ve only had a dishwasher a month and I’ve heard of it.

You’ve not failed, he’s just being crap in this particular instance.

Doilooklikeatourist · 02/11/2018 22:13

Rinse aid is in the dish wash tab , isn’t it ?
Don’t see a problem ( lives in a soft water area )
Clueless here too female age 58
And I’ve stacked many a dishwasher ( as has DH )
Likes a dish washing machine 😀

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/11/2018 22:13

Our dishwasher asks for rinse aid but we just ignore it. We use a dishwasher tablet that I think includes it, but I'm fairly certain we'd ignore the demand for rinse aid anyway. The dishes come out clean, so it can't matter too much.

Does he know how to do other household chores?

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 02/11/2018 22:13

Worral 😂
If you don’t keep your dishwasher topped up with rinse aid your wine glasses will come out cloudy.
Absolutely essential!

Singlenotsingle · 02/11/2018 22:14

So what is it?

ElainaElephant · 02/11/2018 22:14

I'm with your husband. No clue what it is. My dishwasher seems to work well enough without it.

Unicyclethief · 02/11/2018 22:14

Another one who never uses rinse aid. I also would have no idea where it goes. Aren't they all built in now anyway? Otherwise what are all those 5 in 1 tablets?

PurdysChocolate · 02/11/2018 22:14

I have no idea what rinse aid is.

PuddingPie1 · 02/11/2018 22:14

My husband used a persil tablet in the dishwasher - it was practically foaming out the sides - I wouldn't expect him to know about rinse aid if he couldn't even get his right!! Hmm

AiryFairyUnicornRainbow · 02/11/2018 22:16

Ive had a dishwasher for three years and never used it

I'm afraid I don't know either....should I?

Topseyt · 02/11/2018 22:16

I've had several dishwashers. I never use rinse aid.

I have a water softener, so don't need it anyway.

PennyArcade · 02/11/2018 22:17

I have no idea what rinse aid is

Nor me. We are old school. I dirty the dishes ... OH cleans them. It has worked well for 30 years. 🤷‍♀️
