To almost always be disappointed in takeaways.

Takeaways are not something we have that often, maybe 3/4 times a year. Had one today, as I fancied a treat- KFC. What a disappointment Sad. Very little taste , looked unappetising and felt like a waste of money. I’m hungry again now too. Can’t say it’s just KFC, Chinese, fish and chips all seem to be a let down too. Sure i’ll Forget and order again at some point in the future. Anyone always anticipate a takeaway to be so much nicer than the reality?

KFC🤢 there are some really great takeaway places out there!

QuestionableMouse · 02/11/2018 01:07

@biggidybon McDonald's has never had vinegar. Well at least not in the ten years I've worked for them.

mydogisthebest · 02/11/2018 08:39

Why would I put salt on chips when I can't stand the taste of salt?

QuestionableMouse · 02/11/2018 09:00

@dontalltalkatonce which one did you have?

AnnPerkins · 02/11/2018 10:44

I think restaurant food in general is disappointing.

I completely agree. I can't remember really enjoying a meal out in at least the last ten years.

Chinese and Indian restaurants are always better than gastropub type places though. They really are disappointing. And expensive. I don't know how some of them get away with it.

I would rather just eat at home first then go out for a few drinks if I want a night out.

midsomermurderess · 02/11/2018 10:50

Where I live, most of the Indian takeaways are made in a factory halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, so with very few exceptions, it is mostly the same and not very good. The menus all seem identical too, even down to the same typos.

MsHopey · 02/11/2018 10:59

Maybe if you had them more often you wouldn't have such high expectations?
Not that I advocate having lots of fatty takeaways. But I think if I only had one every 4 months or so I'd want it to taste like the best thing in the world.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 02/11/2018 12:09

Fish and chips, once wrapped, is just not the same.
Indian can be very variable. Some have used frozen veg. No thanks.
Our chinese of choice is nice but our Noodle bar has shut. Very sad.

EdisonLightBulb · 02/11/2018 12:11

I would agree except fish and chips, and then only fish and chips from Yorkshire will do.

Proper cod or haddock fried fresh to order in beef dripping, crispy light batter, thick chunky fish, no skin, no bones. Mushy peas.

I do love a good take away. In the village here we have a great Indian restaurant that does take away and the little Italian does takeaway if you go and pick it up too and it’s very nice pizza & pasta. No chinese here anyway.

In general It’s chinese I stuggle with its always very hit and miss I find. Indian take away is best but you do get the odd one that uses frozen veg and the curry is very oily. Even good old fish and chips, I’ve had some rubbish quality ones on days out at the seaside. Pizza again some places can even mess up a pizza.

I think restaurant food in general is disappointing I couldn’t dis agree more. Yes if your eating in weatherspoons or harvester type places you probably could do better at home but if your going to a nice restaurant that uses top quality ingredients, cooked well your unlikely to be disappointed

mydogisthebest · 02/11/2018 13:41

Pinkheart, if I eat in Wetherspoons or Harvester I don't expect great food. Wetherspoons is cheap and the food is ok (or it was the last time I ate there which was about a year ago).

I have never thought much of Harvester and me and DH ate there about 2 weeks ago. We were staying away from home, no cooking facilities, not much choice of places to etc so we opted for Harvester. It was awful. Even the salad bar was pretty awful. We both left at least half of our meals and the waitress commented "oh you weren't very hungry then".

What do you call a nice restaurant? We enjoy indian food but can honestly cook most of the curries as well as the restaurants can. Our onion bhajis are crisp and not oily like so many restaurants. I can make parathas, chapatis, puris. It's just naan we can't master because of not having a tandoor oven.

Maybe it doesn't help that we are both vegetarian and just don't find vegetarian food in restaurants particularly good?

As with so many things, the dream is always better than the reality, OP. 😥

Doesn’t stop me ordering frequent takeaways mind, but that’s for #lazyass reasons, not culinary ones.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/11/2018 17:52

Well we're getting a takeaway tonight as neither of us feel up to cooking, but God knows what as literally cannot remember the last time we had a good one.

Really want an Indian but cannot find a takeaway with even half decent reviews.

AlbertWinestein · 02/11/2018 17:54

He idea someone would put “treat” and “KFC” in the same sentence is blowing my mind Grin

RuggerHug · 02/11/2018 19:19

Christ why am I reading this on day 3 of the healthy eating bollocks I'm enduring. Gagging for a chipper swimming in vinegar now!!
