To almost always be disappointed in takeaways.

Takeaways are not something we have that often, maybe 3/4 times a year. Had one today, as I fancied a treat- KFC. What a disappointment Sad. Very little taste , looked unappetising and felt like a waste of money. I’m hungry again now too. Can’t say it’s just KFC, Chinese, fish and chips all seem to be a let down too. Sure i’ll Forget and order again at some point in the future. Anyone always anticipate a takeaway to be so much nicer than the reality?

There are two places near my dad who do fab chips (except the portion is enormous so I have the convince DH he wants to share chips with me).

I went to our local chippy when our kitchen was being done. Always a queue out the door so I expected good things. Bloody crap. I don’t want a pile of shit dried up old chips and soggy fish. I want half as much food but actual quality please. So disappointed.

spanishwife · 31/10/2018 20:06

Very easy reason for this... Marketing!

Fast food never tastes as good as we are programmed to believe it does.

spanishwife · 31/10/2018 20:07

I also think we associate the idea of having a takeaway as a treat, and also family/friens cosy time. Of course it rarely lives up to it.

Cherries101 · 31/10/2018 20:10

Depends what you like. As an Indian I have found, in the UK at least, that the best Indian food are from vegetarian restaurants — Indian veg food tends to be very, very local (mostly Gujarati and Tamil) and so is cooked by the chefs who grew up in those areas and know their stuff. Indian non-veg food is usually, nine times out of ten, made by non-Indian chefs and the taste just isn’t there.

Polkapjs · 31/10/2018 20:11

Funny you say that. The only good takeaway is a local all vegetarian where you buy it like a ready meal to heat at home but it’s so so tasty.
I find a lot of restaurants disappointing but that’s because I cook a lot and if out want something I can’t or wouldn’t cook

CookPassBabtridge · 31/10/2018 20:14

Ours are decent but dominos has felt like a big expensive letdown the last few times. Which I'm glad of as it's put me off paying all that money!

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 31/10/2018 20:15

I like our local Indian, pizza place is amazing he is Italian and makes it in front of you and my Italian friend insists we go every time he visits. Chinese I always find gloopy and yuk and I always feel let down no matter where I get it, fish and chips vary a lot but I like a nice crispy batter.
I always find them very expensive

biggidybon · 31/10/2018 20:24

Yanbu Although I don't get takeaway food much hardly ever. About 6 months ago I bought a box of Mac Donald's chips as a one off and they don't even provide little vinegar sachets anymore ... disappointing. Plus they were not salty.

spanishwife · 31/10/2018 20:32

biggidybon

When did McDonald's ever give you vinegar?!

Allthewaves · 31/10/2018 20:36

I'd only get kfc from a busy place at peak times so it's hot and fresh. Otherwise it's grim

PumpkinPie2016 · 31/10/2018 20:51

YANBU - we live in a village so not a huge number of takeaways around (and none to deliver up our tiny lane!). However, there are a couple within reasonable driving distance.

The Chinese is very average depending on what you have. Other stuff is very greasy and one time DH's dish was way too salty.

The Indian is best avoided - expensive, tried it on two separate occasions - both times the food was average tasting and left us feeling rough the next day.

I can't remember the last time we had a takeaway. If we want curry I make my own. Sometimes from scratch but I do a nice Thai one using curry paste and coconut milk which takes about 5 mins to prep and always turns out nice. Far cheaper, healthier and nicer than any takeaway!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 31/10/2018 20:57

Given up on takeaways altoghter as they're never as good as my own cooking. The only exception to this is sushi.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 31/10/2018 20:59

Oh, and we have a lovely chippy too, but all the others are rubbish.

Caprisunorange · 31/10/2018 21:01

I’d rather just go to a restaurant. KFC is never going to be good is it? Even people who love it know it’s filthy

Goingalonenow · 31/10/2018 21:04

I ordered a Chinese takeaway this evening - very rare treat. It's just arrived and is missing the main component of the meal. Which they're going to try and get to me within the next two hours.

BrokenWing · 31/10/2018 21:07

KFC, mcds, bk are all edible fast food if you are desperate but that’s is about it.

I had 1/2 a Chinese takeaway tonight and it was fantastic. Strips of tender beef with loads of strips of carrot and onion in a hot peking sauce with rice 🍚 .

AiryFairyUnicornRainbow · 31/10/2018 21:07

YANBU

To be honest, KFC is vile smelling shit id never have that

When we have a takeaway, a chinese takeaway or pizza, It is more often than not, cold and I know I could make better....and it pisses me off even more that we pay over the odds, probably could have got a weeks worth of shopping for what it costs, and it is still shit....and late

rosydreams · 31/10/2018 21:08

i use justeat check the reviews get good food every time.I also find kfc has gone down the toilet but there are so many independent fried chicken places that do it so much better than kfc

Si1ver · 31/10/2018 21:08

It's taken me three years to find a consistently good Indian that delivers. When we moved house last we moved out of the delivery zone for the best Indian every. It was what upset me most about the move.

Oysterbabe · 31/10/2018 21:09

I had a dirty louisiana in kfc at the weekend and it was freaking amazing.

Caprisunorange · 31/10/2018 21:11

Cor I love McDonald’s. It’s nothing like desperation food

Potatoandleeek · 31/10/2018 21:21

Wow you must eat at a lot of crap restaurants then

Possibly! I always go midrange because that’s what my company pays for, so 15 quid for a main course type places. Sometimes this is in small towns where choice is limited, other times in bigger places like Manchester. I rarely enjoy the meals. I find restaurant meals always too salty, or too sugary, or too saucey, or too stodgy. Restaurant style cooking is different from home style cooking and when you’re forced to eat restaurant food for days on end it loses its appeal and it’s no longer a treat.

CaptainCarp · 31/10/2018 21:21

My partner & I had got into a bad habit having takeaways probably twice a week! But we've been good lately & thought we'd "treat" ourselves to KFC the other day. After eating we just felt really greasy /yucky :(

Can't beat a good takeaway though. Got 1 Chinese just up the road which is my favourite. Indian is good but pricey & a chippy just a bit further which has converted me to battered chips & doesn't feel greasy (Considering it's deep fried)

MrsJayy · 31/10/2018 21:27

Take aways we use are nice chinese and a chippy, imo KFC needs lots of salt and extra gravy to dip and it never tastes right at home you need to sit in the same with mcdonalds tastes odd at home.

HemanOrSheRa · 31/10/2018 21:32

Gah. Why did I click on this thread? We were supposed to be getting a delicious Indian takeaway tonight but DP fell asleep hours ago. I don't want to put in a big order and it not get eaten. I can't really wake the poor bugger up. He's been on early shifts for ages, getting up at 4am, and now has a few days off. Pffft. Plus, the batteries have gone in the TV remote. It's stuck on BBC 2 ConfusedGrin.
