Have name changed but frequent poster.

It was my birthday on Sunday & last week (Tuesday) I saw my best friend very briefly and she gave me my present to open on the day. I opened it on Sunday and she had bought me a nice box of chocolates – lovely, I like chocolates. Anyway I text her to say a generic thank you she text back have a lovely day – all’s well and I good. But I’ve just spoken to her and she didn’t get me chocolates. She bought me a very ‘naice’ candle.

How weird is that. She has absolute no reason to lie – we’ve know each other forever and don’t have ‘expectations’ in the sense that sometimes we spend a lot, sometimes we don’t. I asked if it could have got mixed up with someone else’s present and no, she had no other birthdays going on. The strangest part is the gift bag and wrapping paper were exactly what she had wrapped the candle in – but it was chocolates.

What the hell has happened to the candle? We had a laugh about it but honestly, it’s so weird!!

No theories I'm afraid, but love a good mystery. Watching with interest!

ChicagoLil · 31/10/2018 10:48

you’re trolling for fun - why namechange for a post like this? You’re not hiding it from BFriend considering you’ve got her reading your messages so it’s not as if you’re hiding it from her...

Yeah, OP - it's all your fault.

Nuggetsandwich · 31/10/2018 10:49

Have you actually seen the receipt with your own eyes?

RangeRider · 31/10/2018 11:13

When she handed you the bag, do you not remember if it felt heavy or not?
This ^^. I think it's key to solving it.

RebeccaCloud9 · 31/10/2018 11:19

😫😫I've only just discovered this thread and was REALLY hoping that by now it had been solved!

Has your friend (and you) searched the house for the candle?

Queenie8 · 31/10/2018 11:49

Did your friend travel by car to you? Could the candle have fallen out of the bag in the car?

Alternatively, the sales assistant has scanned the candle, put it down and picked up the chocs by mistake. The friend has assumed that the box is the candle when wrapping it up - the mind can play tricks.....

Ps the candle sounds gorgeous!

Flippetydip · 31/10/2018 12:22

Surely the name change is so that whilst the OP's friend will recognise this thread and associate it with her friend, she won't then know what else she posts about. That's why I always assumed a name change.

I only really came on to say £45 for candle!! £45 FOR A CANDLE!! That is MENTAL money!

Place marking as I need to find out the answer once the great mystery is solved.

Can't wait for the book

Shalll · 31/10/2018 13:50

Does your friend have any other friends with birthdays around this time? Maybe she bought the chocolates for someone else and mixed up the gifts when giving?

That would account for her remembering sniffing the candle while wrapping. She put the birthday card in the wrong bag.

avocadosrus · 31/10/2018 14:01

I need to know the conclusion to this mystery/need to get out more!

BackInRed · 31/10/2018 15:37

Aliens or a burglar with expensive taste in candles. Obvs. Hmm

to think this is so strange - present gone missing!
Lizzie48 · 31/10/2018 15:46

This is very puzzling, I'm intrigued to know what happened. If she remembers wrapping this candle then it wasn't a case of an online purchase gone wrong either.

Poppyinagreenfield · 31/10/2018 17:12

Someone else must have the candle and you have their chocolates. Personally I would settle for the chocolates.

A very rude woman phoned me up once and very angrily told me that her haberdashery goods had not arrived yet. I am not a shop.

For some unexplainable reason I told her that I was extremely sorry and would have the boy bring them around on his delivery bike immediately.

April2020mom · 31/10/2018 17:21

This is interesting. Please keep us updated. I’m curious to see how this mystery unfolds.

Ignoramusgiganticus · 31/10/2018 17:24

It's a Halloween trick instead of a treat.

Dodie66 · 31/10/2018 17:37

Either this is a trick or treat post being Halloween or DP did it

labazs · 31/10/2018 17:54

apart from shop wrapping wrong gift but sounds like friend wrapped herself i cant see any explanation do let us all know if you solve it

Lunde · 31/10/2018 18:16

My bet is on the DH knowing something about this because of "remembering" the wrapping was bad. This strikes me as a "try too hard" to convince you comment.

OrangeSunsets · 31/10/2018 18:33

There is no other explaination. It was a worm hole.

Tinkerbell1980 · 31/10/2018 18:34

I am soooooo overinvested in this it's ridiculous! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CANDLE!!!
Arrrrgggghhh!!!!

bimbobaggins · 31/10/2018 18:36

I think your friend has regifted it. She’s thought it was a candle , it was a make she’s not familiar with , they come in small packages, so she’s regifted it to you.

neveradullmoment99 · 31/10/2018 18:36

Definitely your friend that has made a mistake. Its usually the simplest explanation. Maybe she felt embaressed about the chocolates?

neveradullmoment99 · 31/10/2018 18:37

I agree with @bimbobaggins. I think she thought it was a candle from a regift that was wrapped and made a bit of a faux pas when speaking to you and now cant come back from it.

neveradullmoment99 · 31/10/2018 18:38

she thought it was a candle but since it was a wrapped regift she cant say what happened. It is the most plausible.
