Oh, I remember Nixon well, woman. I think Nixon was a politician who knew the system and whose thirst for power blinded him. I think Nixon thought he knew what was best for the country and felt the ends justified the means. It really wasn't about personal gain for Nixon. He wasn't really looking to make himself 'rich'. He just craved the power. And he had a streak of paranoia. Scrotus is about as far from a politician as you can get and his ego is in control of everything he does. And to him, success can only be measured in personal gain. Power is just a byproduct to him. Would he choose power over personal gain? No way. Scrotus only cares about what's in it for HIM, and to hell with the rest of us. He's a consummate narcissist.
As far as the difference between Watergate and now, back then Congress had at least a modicum scruples. They had self-interest, sure. But the bottom line was that they worked together for the good of the Country. If they could get something out of it for their constituents (and thus themselves), so much the better. We also had some great statesmen. Tip O'Neill, Ted Kennedy, Howard Baker, & Sam Ervin to name a few. Now, you can count on your fingers the number of Congresspersons that put Country before self.
Thanks for the well wishes, everyone, but we are not in any danger. It's just so distressing to hear that parts of my beloved state are in flames and that lives have been lost.
It used to be that we had a fire 'season' that ran from May - Oct. Any fires outside of those months were really an anomaly. Now they just say we have a fire 'year' and that fires can and will happen at any time. But climate change? Nah, couldn't possibly be.
