I had double jaw surgery a few months ago.

My friend says my fave doesn't look noticeably different. I think it looks quite different.

So AIBU to think my face is different and my friend is being awkward. The pictures are screenshots from our conversation hence the writing.

You look beautiful @Haircutdilemma x

It’s it called a la something osteotomy? I remember my friend talking about it when she was a student nurse. I must say OP they’ve done a cracking job, you look completely different! And you’re a very pretty young woman if you don’t mind me saying. Hope your recovery continues.

I had double jaw surgery 10 years ago to correct an underbite. Its honestly improved my life.
You look fab OP!

MargaretRiver · 03/11/2018 00:42

Great result,
but leave your nose alone, your face is well-proportioned now.

Winterfellwonderland · 03/11/2018 00:45

What was the surgery for? I know a few other ladies who have had this but I never understood why they needed it?

Haircutdilemma · 03/11/2018 07:48

@winterfellwonderland it is to provide a functional bite, allowing the patient to chew correctly with all teeth. Correct deformity and the cosmetic issues around that, ease breathing and tension problems associated with a misaligned bite and aid oral hygine.

Did your dentist arrange for the surgery or your doctor? I think you look lovely before and after x

Tentomidnight · 03/11/2018 08:04

You look great OP!

My DD has a jaw problem and has been told that she will probably need surgery ti correct her bite and and facial aesthetics once she stops growing. Reading your posts has made me feel a lot calmer about the possibility, so thankyou.

Tentomidnight · 03/11/2018 08:06

Process for us was dentist referral to orthodentist, orthodentist referral to specialist orthodentist at hospital and maxillofacial surgeon.

haverhill · 03/11/2018 08:20

You look really good, OP. You looked good before, but your face is more relaxed and in proportion now.
My son will need quite a few tooth implants due to hypodontia; I know it’s far less drastic than jaw surgery but it’s still a big worry. Seeing your success story is comforting.

Haircutdilemma · 03/11/2018 08:29

I am so glad this post has been helpful to others, it's been really helpful to me too.

The process for me was dentist referral to the orthodontist at the hospital and he works together with the surgeon so they were both involved from the start and the orthodontic work was done in such a way as to prepare for surgery and make sure everything was aligned ready.

You don't need make up to look good, you look fantastic just as you are.

Cheeringmeup · 03/11/2018 08:47

I think you look beautiful - totally worth all the pain you’ve had to endure (you’be also got lovely skin btw!).

Haircutdilemma · 03/11/2018 08:50

@cheeringmeup I use Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair and the anti oxidant day cream, it works wonders for my skin, highly recommend it.
