To think my face looks different.

I had double jaw surgery a few months ago.

My friend says my fave doesn't look noticeably different. I think it looks quite different.

So AIBU to think my face is different and my friend is being awkward. The pictures are screenshots from our conversation hence the writing.

It does look different and better too OP post surgery. Nice job! Well done you! 👌

Blanchedupetitpois · 29/10/2018 16:39

It’s made a big difference - I can see how your mouth slightly distracted from your other features before, but now it looks more proportionate and your lovely eyes are now your most prominent feature!

Your friend is either being a bitch or she’s misguidedly trying to claim that she didn’t see the issue before because she thinks it’s more polite.

Rudgie47 · 29/10/2018 16:42

Theres a massive difference, I don't know why your friend is saying theres not. You look great and are really pretty.

Haircutdilemma · 29/10/2018 16:43

@LegoPiecesEverywhere the first 3 days were horrendous, I have a weird phlegm phobia and I had lots of phlegm, couldn't breathe very well and was throwing up blood. From day 3 when I went home onwards I saw an improvement every day. The pain wasn't as bad as you would think because everything is numb at first. I had jaw spasms in the muscle for a few weeks which were difficult to cope with but they were brief. So not a walk in the park but I would do it all again without any reservation.

Perhaps she really doesn't see any difference - you were lovely in her eyes before, and you still are now. She maybe didn't see that there was anything "wrong" with you that needed fixing. A friend of mine recently lost weight and I simply didn't think she looked better before OR after, she was just my lovely friend.

LukeSkywalkerBoots · 29/10/2018 16:46

You look great Op. I’ve got a severe overbite and I’d LOVE to do something like this to sort it out. Was it NHs it private and if private how much did it cost?

ml3jp · 29/10/2018 16:49

Would love to get this done. How did you go about it? And can I ask whether you had to go private?

SirVixofVixHall · 29/10/2018 16:53

You do look noticeably different op. I have a friend who has had this surgery, and initially I was upset as I loved her face as it was and didn’t want her to look different, however it is a subtle shift and she still looks like her lovely self but her jaw is a more comfortable fit now it is aligned into its rightful position.
You friend might be adjusting to the change, or maybe she just can’t see it, some people really don’t notice features particularly, but more have an overall impression of others.

RelicHunter · 29/10/2018 16:54

It definitely looks different, noticeably different infact. You friend is talking rubbish. You look very nice.

BlancheM · 29/10/2018 17:00

You're gorgeous OP I think your friend was being well meaning in an 'you've always been lovely' kind of way, also maybe 'you look like the same person' kind of way, as some people can look completely different after certain surgery and not in a good way!

Haircutdilemma · 29/10/2018 17:00

My dentist suggested it as I was having trouble with my oral hygiene as my teeth were all over the place. He referred me to the orthodontist at the local hospital and I was able to have the entire treatment on the NHS. I believe you can only have the orthodontic treatment if your classed as deformed and in need of jaw surgery otherwise you have to go private.

Glad to see other interpretations of my friends comments, I just couldn't see them being bitchy so I feel better hearing other theories.

You do look different, and a lot happier! It would be hard for your friend to say oh yes you look so much better now, as she probably doesn't think you looked bad before and wouldn't want you to think she ever did, you're her friend and she probably just sees you as her lovely gorgeous friend. Well done on getting through such a major op!

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 29/10/2018 17:09

You have totally improved your jawline - it looks very different. You were an attractive girl before and are even more so now. You have lost the self-consciousness of the earlier photos. which is 50% of the battle.

It's rare that I agree with anyone having surgery that isn't for a life-threatening condition, but I can see that this will be totally life-enhancing for you. No wonder your confidence has soared.

Mishappening · 29/10/2018 17:09

Do you feel happy with it? That is all that matters.

Has your friend been to SpecSavers?

bunintheoven88 · 29/10/2018 17:12

Your gorgeous and she's just jealous.

Take no notice OP

🙋🏽‍♀️

Glossymare · 29/10/2018 17:15

I can’t see a difference in the first pic, but I can in the second two x

Eilaianne · 29/10/2018 17:15

the improvement is massively obvious!

pippa999 · 29/10/2018 17:17

You are so pretty on both OP. But the jaw/chin looks smaller on the pic on the right. What did you have the surgery for?

TheDuchessOfSex · 29/10/2018 17:20

I also see quite a big difference. You look lovely.

Like alligator said, my thought was that if your friend loves you then she probably can’t see much of a difference! You say yourself that she thought you looked lovely before and look lovely now (I agree BTW. You looked fine before, and better now.)

AndSheWas85 · 29/10/2018 17:25

In the compare and contrast pictures after treatment, you look great OP. And don't let anyone tell you different. They have their own reasons for trying to bringing you down. Ignore them.

Haircutdilemma · 29/10/2018 17:25

@Pippa999 honestly? I did it mainly for cosmetic reasons but the other benefits are correct bite, I can eat more easily, I can breathe better especially at night and no longer wake up in a puddle of slobber; I am not standing my jaw all day so have no more tension headaches or jaw clicks. I am able to maintain better oral health as straight teeth are easier to clean. But the driving force was to be happy with how I look.

Sour grapes from the friend methinks....

congrats on successful surgery OP, you look great :o

pippa999 · 29/10/2018 17:34

You look amazing OP!

JheronimusBosch · 29/10/2018 17:34

Yes there is a noticeable difference. It would be easy to tell which pictures are before and after, even without the comments on the pics.

And your nose looks totally normal btw.
