To think my face looks different.

I had double jaw surgery a few months ago.

My friend says my fave doesn't look noticeably different. I think it looks quite different.

So AIBU to think my face is different and my friend is being awkward. The pictures are screenshots from our conversation hence the writing.

Just had a proper look at your other 2 pics now ... I only looked at the one first of all.

Yeah you do look so different, and yeah to be honest. Better.

I do get why you had it done, and I am so glad you're happy.

Very pretty girl. Smile

And I agree with previous posters. Your so-called 'friend' is jealous. Sour grapes galore!

cantfindname · 29/10/2018 17:35

Hugely different. Send your 'friend' to Specsavers.. or find a new and better friend.

aintnothinbutagstring · 29/10/2018 17:40

Yes there's a big difference. I'm a bit jealous you had it all done on the NHS but you must have been deserving of it, I would have to pay 4k for the orthodontic treatment alone and no hope of ever having my jaw fixed!

Oxfordblue · 29/10/2018 17:46

It looks different & you look great. Ignore friend, perhaps she's jealous?

What have you had done btw?

Haircutdilemma · 29/10/2018 17:52

@aintnothingbutagstring are you sure you don't qualify for treatment? I know lots of people that have had the procedure.

@oxfordblue I had the top jaw taken off, a portion removed and then screwed back on, the bottom jaw was detached and moved forwards then reattached with titanium plates.

I think it's very generous of you to share your experience and the before and after pics.
Well done it sounds like quite an undertaking :o

ems137 · 29/10/2018 19:01

I think there's a massive difference between the pictures. I have mild facial blindness and they don't even look like the same person to me because your features are so different.

Ignore your friend, she's either jealous or it's because she sees you so frequently it's hard to notice a gradual change?

butterflysugarbaby · 29/10/2018 20:13

@Haircutdilemma

Wow you do look so different. Wonderful what medical experts/surgeons can do. And I agree that you deserved the free NHS treatment, as it was necessary because of your overbite and larger jaw.

Women have free NHS treatment for boob jobs and IVF, so why should YOU not have it?

Good for you. You look wonderful. Smile

nicelyneurotic · 29/10/2018 20:22

Thank you for sharing. I think you look amazing and are so brave!

strumpetblowingatrumpet · 29/10/2018 20:26

Yes very different you look lovely - still beautiful before but even more so now. I think that might be what your friend is trying to say but being a little clumsy about it.

youare · 29/10/2018 20:29

You look very different and you're beautiful, OP.

Haircutdilemma · 29/10/2018 20:33

Thanks everyone, I find it hard to accept compliments but this thread has been lovely, I appreciate all the lovely comments.

I am definitely thinking my friend either sees me so often that it's not obvious or is trying to make me feel better about my before face. They really wouldn't be bitchy.

TeddybearBaby · 29/10/2018 20:37

I thought you had surgery for a jaw accident or something and she was reassuring you that you look fine!

You look great. I’m glad you’re pleased 😃

Loopytiles · 29/10/2018 20:41

Big difference! Looks good.

That is some hardcore orthodontics then surgery! Ouch! Glad the results are good.

As you’re sure your friend meant well perhaps she has heard you talk lots about and focus on this matter and wishes to help you feel better about yourself both before and after IYSWIM. But hasn’t gone about it in the ideal way.

serialtester · 29/10/2018 20:41

That sounds like a hellish surgery! You looked good before but great now.

Jano69 · 29/10/2018 20:44

You look absolutely gorgeous. The before and after photos look noticeably different. Thank you for sharing your experience, I didn't even know this was an option. I also have an overbite and would love to have it corrected.

Yonijust · 29/10/2018 20:46

How long was the actual op?

How long did you stay in?

Did you consider a chin implant (can be done under a local) instead of major surgery? Did they talk about one?

You look amazing Star

Haircutdilemma · 29/10/2018 20:50

@Jano69 it's worth speaking to your dentist for a referral.

@Yonnijust The OP was about 4 hours, I had the OP first thing on Friday morning and came home Sunday night. My sister stayed with me for the first 5 days after I got home but I was doing everything my self by the Wednesday.

A chin implant wouldn't have corrected my bite but they did consider genioplasty alongside the jaw surgery which is where they detach your chin and slide it forward.

HellenaHandbasket · 29/10/2018 20:54

Definitely different!

Yonijust · 29/10/2018 20:58

Thank you Flowers

Ive had a brace for 2 years, to help my bite & a new bridge fitted.

Really I think surgery is my only option, but Im too scared to be put to sleep.

You look beautiful.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 29/10/2018 21:04

Definitely different! You are beautiful. You still look like you but actually you look totally different.
I know of someone who has surgery on her jaw and I didn't recognise her.
Maybe your friend didn't want to say how lovely you look in case you'd think she means you didn't before.

AbsentmindedWoman · 29/10/2018 21:07

Chiming in to agree that you look very different!

You look lovely OP Smile

iamyourequal · 29/10/2018 21:21

You are pretty and look even better after the surgery. My young teen son is undergoing orthodontic treatment for the same condition (pronounced overbite). Although it improves appearance there are lots of reasons to get it corrected medically, which is why the NHS fund it. I think the threshold was 6 or 8mm (the distance by which your front jaw teeth protrude too far). Well done for getting through it OP!

Likeshyt · 29/10/2018 21:22

She might feel that if she’s like “yeah there’s a difference” you might think “so you thought .... all along?” And, tbf, if a friends a friend they think your lovely no matter what! X
