So how much you currently owe ?

OP posts:
greencatbluecat · 26/10/2018 19:21

Nothing. Cut up credit cards about 5 or 6 years ago. Owed ££££. Only just paid off.

Bimgy85 · 26/10/2018 19:21

€290 at the moment

But I use it for general everyday things and treats and pay off about €50-100 a week no matter what, it's so handy! Best thing I ever done.

Paying off the balance in full helps it feel like a constant flow of a pay rise or something

Marmite27 · 26/10/2018 19:22

£175.87 to be exact. Oh and a third card that I’m actually 20-odd-pence in credit on.

bumblebee39 · 26/10/2018 19:23

£3800 ish

Bimgy85 · 26/10/2018 19:24

I stop spending when it gets near to my statement date.

itsjustmebeingme · 26/10/2018 19:25

Zero here too. We use it as protection but pay off every month. If the bill seems a bit steep on month we just cut back.
I’m currently not working and so we are cutting back lots!

Notreallyhappy · 26/10/2018 19:25

156.25 In credit.. OH forgets to tell me when he's used it for petrol so I pay up before & check x

CallMePea · 26/10/2018 19:27

1287.00
I paid for my last 5 exams of the qualification I'm doing on the credit card. Then cut it up and I pay it off every month. It's the only debt I've ever had. Makes me anxious knowing I owe money!

bumblebee39 · 26/10/2018 19:27

But that's out of a considerable amount of debt that I didn't make most of but was in my name. Financial abuse is a bitch 🙄

Wouldn't mind if I'd actually enjoyed it and spent it on myself and the kids but it all went on my Ex who now doesn't even pay maintenance and even if he did probably wouldn't cover the interest...

CoachBombay · 26/10/2018 19:33

£3800 to round it up.

It was used as our "emergency" when large family car needed £2k worth of work and we were in a tight spot. The other £1800 was 4 new tyres for the second family car and a balance transfer from another card to keep the debt in one place at 0%

So two car emergencies really. We will pay it off soon though we're not concerned about it as we are now in a better financial situation thanks to me me finally getting the job I've always wanted and a better pay.

CharDeeMacDennis · 26/10/2018 19:37

Replies here will be self-selecting... those with no debt probably happier, in general, to say so than those who owe lots and are stressed about it.

I owe about £50 at the moment. I buy one thing a month and pay it off, purely to build up a credit record - I fucked mine up years ago and only now am getting it back up to scratch.

greeneyedlulu · 26/10/2018 19:38

We currently have 1500 but that's cleared to zero monthly. We use it for everything to get the avios points

simbobs · 26/10/2018 19:43

Nothing. Pay it off every month, and only use it as it gives me money/vouchers back for what I would have spent anyway.

prettybird · 26/10/2018 19:48

I seem to recall that the answer to "what percentage of credit cards are paid off in full?" is something surprising like 60% ShockSmile

adaline · 26/10/2018 19:49

£500 but it's about to be paid off. I use my credit card for fuel and food each month and pay it off on payday (today).

Tigger001 · 26/10/2018 20:10

I don't and never have had a credit card, I have always paid in cash for the things I want. If I can't afford I save for a bit then buy outright. But I think people with debt on their card, it is all relative dependant on their situation. Someone could think 1k is massive while someone could pay that out of a months salary.

Yeah I think you are right at this point to own the debt, if he has paid for everything for 3 months, then the eating out and additional charges are unnecessary as such. I definitely think, if you definitely can not see a way out he could step in and help if possible.

It is easy to go over budget while on maternity leave if your not careful but what's done is done so you just need to try and get a clear plan going forward, so it all sits clear in your head and not playing on your mind once your new beautiful baby arrives.

I always think if you have your plan written down, it clears headspace.

Upsy1981 · 26/10/2018 20:16

£500ish. Had a rubbish time over last month or so with car emergency and vets bills so its gone on that. Paying off at least £80 a month.

RomanyRoots · 26/10/2018 20:21

I don't think there's anything wrong with credit as long as you can afford to pay it back if you both lost your jobs.
i've seen so many people get into trouble and the stress it causes.
I know of several who commited suicide when they'd lost their jobs, the debt wasn't even huge, but they couldn't see a way forward and eventually the 0% became a hefty %.

I also grew up in a time when you kept it quiet if you needed credit, it was something to be very ashamed of, a bit like people are demonised for UC and other benefits.
You were the lowest of the low if you had stuff on the never never, how times change Grin

My dc try to get me to have one, they say it will help my credit rating. But I don't want credit, so don't care my credit score is probably none existent. We own two houses outright, perhaps through living within our means.

Bloomburger · 26/10/2018 20:24

Don't have one.

If you can't afford it don't buy it.

Celestia26 · 26/10/2018 20:27

Zero. We use it for the payment protection on big purchases, but it gets paid in full every month.

We aren't big earners at all (earn £35,000 between the two of us, which I know is hardly anything by Mumsnet standards!), but we live carefully and hate debt!

Upsy1981 · 26/10/2018 20:27

I do also have approx £200 on a next account too.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 26/10/2018 20:27

Zero

gigantus · 26/10/2018 20:28

I don't have any cc debt op. However I have 13 credit cards! All the supermarkets, all the airlines, my favourite hotel loyalty scheme. Make them work for you! Cashback, reward points etc, but pay off in full each month. My credit rating is as good as it's possible to have too.

SausageSimon · 26/10/2018 20:44

£4K, paying around £300 off per month.
£2k overdraft from when I was a student, can't wait for it all to be paid off. Only two years to go 😩

LuluJakey1 · 26/10/2018 20:49

Zero. We don't have any.
