Presumably this was run up because you are on mat leave and haven't been earning as much, and is therefore family debt - you've taken a salary hit to raise a child that belongs to both of you, so your husband should help to financially support that. It sounds from your last post like you consider the debt to be just yours to pay off?

OP i dont think its that much- i could pay off my credit card debt with my savings but with 0% interest i see no need to do so.

I'm not sure it's self control that means some people have 0 though, it's being nice to your future self. It's also dependent on circumstances.

I put all of my spending on my credit card because I get a percentage as cashback. Then the full balance is automatically paid off every month.

£300 on an interest free one.

I only have one for emergencies - used it to buy a phone when my debit card wasn’t working when RBS had all their issues.

Zero

A few hundred or zero depending on whether the direct debit has been credited yet - I only use it for pay at the pump though. The other card is just for emergencies really, it was 0% when I got it but not any more so I don't tend to use it.

zero. But am at risk of building up.

I got a credit card in 1990 to go to America with as debit cards were less common and the word was that you needed one. I found it difficult to control and was in devt for a few years. Got rid of it, eventually paid off the debt.

Then i decided after dh died to go to America to see my US relatives next year. So i've got a credit card so that i can hire a car. Under control so far but only just...

Zero. Anything put on is paid in full that month.

Only what I can pay off by DD at the end of month.

Been out of control once. Never again.

£10k- £6k interest free

Unexpectedly became a LP whilst on mat leave and had to relocate, furnish a house and make up nursery fees shortfall when I went back to work.

Literally no other options and did what I had to do. Don’t regret it, don’t really worry about it- but am working to pay it off - and only use the cc when toddler would go hungry if I didn’t.

All of my spending goes on a cc but it’s paid off monthly. Therefore get the benefit of BA miles but have never paid interest (since having my first card)

Op, if it’s 0% but you have ability to pay off that’s great. Just make sure you track saws so that the interest doesn’t kick in

When you say your partner thinks it’s a lot is it because he was previously unaware of your spending? Has it been ‘essentials’ or continuing your normal level of spend when on mat leave?

300 - until monday, when I pay it all off.
I only once needed to use is as credit. usually use it as payment card and pay off in full each month.

Zero at the moment. I tend to use my credit card for big stuff (unexpected garage bill of over £1000, new TV or other big purchase) and pay it off over a few months rather than using it day-to-day.

MyBrexitIsIll · 26/10/2018 16:15

£0. CC always paid in full at the end of the month.

I have been in the position of having £3k on a 0% card. I hated it and only did it because I wanted to start a specific business and needed the money to start it up.

For me, £5k is a lot.

I'm not suggesting a joint account - if that wouldn't suit you then that's fine. My point is just that a monetarily equal split of bills while you've taken a pay cut to raise a joint child is, imo, not "fair". He should be taking on a greater proportion of the bills while you're off, or recognising that the reason you have this debt is because you were raising your child, and thus help to pay it off. Does that make sense?

Zero. I don’t own a credit card as I wouldn’t trust myself.

Why were you paying the bills with no income?
