Is my cat BU?

She thinks there ought to be a bit more restriction on fireworks. Like weekends only until after New year, so she knows when to bloody hide. She wishes she lived back in Ireland where she's from. She also isn't a killjoy and loves the pretty colours, but hates it when it's on a random Thursday apropos of nothing except they're on sale so why not.

If she was any sort of cat she would be unconscious on your lap purring so loudly they are drowned out.

She is BU.

TSSDNCOP · 25/10/2018 19:45

You however are not being U.

FastWindow · 25/10/2018 19:47

I wish any of my 3 were lap cats. How is it possible to have 3 U-cats. Even my sweetest girl hates being picked up Sad

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 25/10/2018 19:48

Ha! A load have just gone off near me and the cats and dog are not impressed. Ddog has buried his head between two cushions Sad.

FastWindow · 25/10/2018 19:49

I'm having a lot of fun decoding your nn BTW TSSDNCOP. Is the P 'principle'?

Heuschrecke · 25/10/2018 19:51

TSSDNCOP = The Secret Service Does Not Comment On Procedure!

FastWindow · 25/10/2018 19:53

I had 'does not comment on' Grin was going with 'the social services' though

Nice.

StripySocksAndDocs · 25/10/2018 19:57

She probably better off not moving back to Ireland (least not my area), fireworks daily and nightly for the last six weeks and counting.

TSSDNCOP · 25/10/2018 19:59

Fast I think you must be doing the whole cat thing wrong TBH.

TSSDNCOP - t's a West Wing reference, bless you Ron Butterfield Smile

Heuschrecke · 25/10/2018 19:59

IIRC, it's from the West Wing - but a few years back MNHQ adopted it when people were asking questions about their troll/etc-finding methods!

PS. Both our cats hate fireworks, unsurprisingly! Fortunately we don't have many random nights of fireworks even though we're in London.

FastWindow · 25/10/2018 20:04

I thought (for letting off in your garden or whatever) fireworks were unable to be bought in Ireland? Or not?

OP posts:
StripySocksAndDocs · 25/10/2018 20:57

Yes, they are illegal. Makes no difference though!

MrsStrowman · 25/10/2018 21:16

You don't want a lap cat really OP, mine takes it too far, I wake up with him laying on my chest (feels like I'm having a heart attack), he gets up in my face all of the time, climbs all over me whenever I sit or lay down and occasionally I wake up to him trying to suckle on my earlobe. DH gives me a cuddle, boom cat's there climbing on us, I'd were in need he wants to be the littlest spoon, if we're standing up he gets between our legs and meows until one of us picks him up for a group hug, oh and he dribbles. He's an embarrassment.

MrsStrowman · 25/10/2018 21:17

*if We're in bed

FastWindow · 25/10/2018 22:27

MrsStrowman I'm afraid to break it to you but your cat is a dog. A jealous one at that Grin

OP posts:
Athena51 · 25/10/2018 22:31

Fortunately my cat isn't bothered by fireworks, he's not bothered by much to be fair. He is zen cat.

@MrsStrowman my cat is also quite needy and possessive. He likes to sit or lie between me and DP like a furry chaperone. He'll also sit on my lap gazing at DP as if to say 'she's all mine mate' Smile

MrsStrowman · 25/10/2018 22:35

@FastWindow he really is quite dog like, he is a black cat and has a black dog glove puppet that he has had since he was a kitten and he carries it around in his mouth (it does look a bit like him and he is definitely a narcissist). DH says it's my fault he's this way because I had him before we lived together and used to carry him around on my shoulder when he was little... 🤷

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/10/2018 22:43

Not unreasonable
My cats aren't impressed at bangs
Scoutcats needy and has chew all fur off back legs over last few days.im convinced it's the bangsand bolts out to pee once dark then too scared come back in and hides somewhere til morningSad
He won't use a tray as we have other cats and he gets too stressed he sprays me/my stuff....
Another dribbler and lay all over his human servant....

FastWindow · 25/10/2018 22:55

mrsS I bet your dogcat has some Burmese in him. They are the scarves of catdom.
zoo dribbly cats! Are they weaned too soon or something? I've a kneader/ chewer. Blankets aren't safe.

TheBigFatMermaid · 25/10/2018 23:02

Your cat is not being unreasonable. At least my 17 1/2 year old dog says so!

I had to medicate with valerian near bonfire night for a long time. She is deaf now, so cannot hear them. She used to get so distressed though. It was fine when I knew it was going to happen, but not fine when I didn't. I did not medicate her every night just in case and valerian has a bulid up effect anyway. So I would give it to her in the lead in to 5th Nov and up to NYE, but really could not give it to her all the time!

Sheldonoscopy · 25/10/2018 23:06

I have one lap cat who puts paws on me if me making tea gets mentioned so I don’t have to get up 😆, one who couldn’t care less if I live or die but if she sees my son she throws herself at him in ecstasy (probably because I started having him feed her and he just ‘gets’ her weird aloofness)
Lap cat, shit scared of any bangs.
Aloof cat goes out thinking it’s hunting time and birds have come out making calling noises to her, the little freak. Yabvu to not have at least one lap cat. My idea of hell lol

Els1e · 25/10/2018 23:10

I too have zen cat and along with zen dog, who completely ignore fireworks. Realise I am lucky plus in my part of Dorset, not heard a firework yet. Personally I am pro public display of fireworks only. No selling of gunpowder in supermarkets and have signed petitions but government taking no notice

Lonecatwithkitten · 25/10/2018 23:15

The girl cat would like their to be more fireworks as she likes to sit on the garden wall to watch.
The boy cat couldn't give a stuff unless one option gets him more food than the other.

FastWindow · 25/10/2018 23:21

We are in Berks and random mortar type explosions are fairly commonplace. I wonder if it's the barracks at Sandhurst. It's bloody loud anyway and echoes.

As for the catses personalities... We've one straight evil but reels you in with love (then kills your hand) one fluffy loveboat, will not claw you or bite - even when you play the under cover game - but hates being picked up: and a young buck who has no barriers. I don't know what this kitty thinks he is. If he's in the mood for a fight, the kids will not go down the stairs, as your feet are fair game.

All said and done... The fluffy love kitty is the homicidal squirrel killer. I have videos.

jillowarriorqueen · 25/10/2018 23:24

I am inclined to think your cat is BU, as I have had lots of cats who haven't been bothered by the bangs. Maybe that comes of living with very loud and bangy children that tend to de-sensitise them to sudden and frequent loud noises. I have a new cat this year though, who is a bit jittery, so I imagine she will BU about the fireworks, but time will tell.

If you need to borrow my loud and bangy kids to therapise your cat, you're most welcome, btw.
