@cantquitebelieveit

Reporting (in the quality papers) of his putting £363m into the BHS pension pot leaves no doubt that he did this when the threat of his knighthood being removed became serious. It’s not just cachet; acceptance into the English establishment is something that a certain personality craves more than anything else.

(I say English because I don’t live there. I’m not making a racially/ethnically charged comment. I’d say the same about David Beckham, for example).

There must be many MN posters who work or have worked for Philip Green in stores and head office or have friends and family who have done so.

There would be very few that ever came into contact with him. I know people that spent their whole working lives at BHS, but never met him.

Xenia · 27/10/2018 19:48

I don't know why peole want knighthoods and that kind of thing. I think his roots are Polish and Latvian if this is right www.tatler.com/article/philip-green-exclusive but born in the UK.

cyclehelmetuse · 27/10/2018 19:58

Bombadier that wasn't the same at Top Shop head office etc and also far more involvement with staff in past years.

toweldramas · 27/10/2018 20:01

I concur that he loves the prestige of being a Sir.

limitedperiodonly · 27/10/2018 23:50

We're not going to change the law.

Green's name would have probably trended on Twitter in advance of a Supreme Court hearing which would have meant the interim judgement would have been rescinded.

The Appeal Court was right in their interim judgement defending the principles of PDAs and the vain permatanned Hain was wrong to grandstand in the House of Lords as was the ludicrous Vince Cable in his call for Philip Green to be stripped of his knighthood,

But when all's said and done I am not going to shed any tears over that cunt. He's not going to face a criminal prosecution and if he gets stripped of his knighthood can strut around Monaco bleating about it.

AsleepAllDay · 28/10/2018 05:12

@Maccycheesefries I think most things are in his wife's name. He's still a British citizen and English. But Tina 'technically' owns the wealth (clearly designed to protect him) while he's the public face of their companies

RebootYourEngine · 28/10/2018 05:25

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

He has been accused of something but there has been no trial so by law he is not guilty of it.

On the other hand he doesnt come across as a great person. The way he acted with BHS was awful. He doesn't seem to have much care for other people.

toweldramas · 28/10/2018 06:23

AsleepAllDay is correct, 90% of shares/stock is in his wife’s name, who is a Monaco resident. Hence when they took a 1 billion pound dividend they paid no tax.
He is definitely a bully & he would use terms like love. However I never heard any rumours of inappropriate sexual behaviour or ever felt uncomfortable in his presence (except if he was shouting).

dapplegrey · 28/10/2018 06:30

it should be interesting to watch yet another load of people distancing themselves from him. I wonder how Kate Moss feels.

Indeed. So far there has been complete silence from all the people such as Kate Moss and Anna Wintour who were more than happy to accept his hospitality.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 28/10/2018 09:53

how do you know they were happy to

Or didn’t just view it as work

dapplegrey · 28/10/2018 17:25

Maybe you are right enthusiasm but I don’t suppose they’ll be accepting anymore invitations work or not.

Xenia · 28/10/2018 18:10

towel, that is the impression I got. not a Weinstein. Not a rapist. Just one of those old fashioned rather shouty bossy boss men who should be kinder inthe work place, against you might well imagine people alleged bullying. Not exactly worst kind of crimes that NDAs ought not to hide which is why it is such a difficult case.

He is the public face of unacceptable capitalism to many so an easy whipping boy and yet probably has done nothing particularly bad and certainly not a good test case for should secrecy clauses be included where an employee might have a case that some sort of crime took place.

epsonprinters · 06/05/2019 20:24

I think that people should be looking at the way public organisations, such as schools, misuse public funds to hide wrongdoing, with the use of these NDAs, especially given the shortages in public sector funding.
