To think LUSH have gone too far?

I used to use Lush products quite often, I loved their soaps and bath bombs etc. I slowly stopped using them because I noticed the prices were ever increasing and pink bathwater loses its novelty when it's costing you £5+. Regardless, I still always went in before Christmas to buy my DM a bottle of Snow Fairy because it's her absolute fave.

I went in yesterday to buy her annual bottle and literally couldn't believe that they were asking £27.95 for the big bottle. That's £28 for a bottle of SOAP!! I even had to check with a staff member that I hadn't misread, she said they'd just put the prices up again. I realise they use natural ingredients and are cruelty free, but for me this still doesn't justify this price.

AIBU to think they've gone too far and you'd have to be crazy to pay that?

No YANBU. There are lots of other shops that sell gorgeous shower gels at a fraction of the price. My DD in particular likes the Imperial Leather girlie range

Pinkyyy · 23/10/2018 08:54

I thought that too, I can get her a whole board of bath stuff for that price elsewhere so just seems ridiculous to me, but I don't want to disappoint her so not sure what to do at the minute

If I was going to spend silly money on toiletries, I'd go with Molton Brown over Lush any day of the week.

But I don't. So I won't.

DollyWilde · 23/10/2018 09:01

I know what you mean. I like their ethical standpoint and actually really love their products, but I bought a face mask in there for £9 at the weekend that I’ll get maybe 3 applications out of. At that price per use I may as well go to Clarins and spend £20 on something I can use 10 times and feels much more luxurious.

SweatyUnderboob · 23/10/2018 09:04

Ah I love Snow Fairy. £28 is ridiculous!

unweavedrainbow · 23/10/2018 09:04

Umm a big bottle is 1kg (!!) of shower gel. That's a good year's worth or about 7p a day, unless she uses loads and loads. A more normal 250g bottle (still 2-3 month's worth) is £10 or they do tiny bottles for a fiver. Implying that Lush is charging £28 for a standard size bottle of shower gel is somewhat disingenuous...

RedBlu · 23/10/2018 09:05

I assume that's for the 1kg bottle of snow fairy? I usually buy a bottle of 500ml and it's about £12/13 and looking at their website, it's now £16.50.

They are getting expensive and I think the quality not as good as it once was so I don't buy from them that much anymore. If the prices go up, then the quality needs to as well.

nksw · 23/10/2018 09:05

I popped in to get Snow Fairy and it seemed extortionate. Far happier with Molton Brown at that price and I don't get a migraine as soon as I'm in sight of the shop. Or get constantly hassled by shop assistants (I know they have to, I just don't enjoy it).

MonteCarla · 23/10/2018 09:06

250g shower gel does not last 3 months! That’s less than 3ml a day! 😂

megletthesecond · 23/10/2018 09:07

You get what you pay for.
They use decent ingredients and they pay their taxes. They also use less packaging and recycle the black pots.
Lush management can have some stupid ideas, to put it mildly, but the products themselves are pretty good.

unweavedrainbow · 23/10/2018 09:07

That's how long it lasts me...

TheMythicalChicken · 23/10/2018 09:09

I realise they use natural ingredients and are cruelty free.

Not exactly. I love Lush, but their products are far from natural and they use a lot of palm oil, so not really cruelty-free either.

Janek · 23/10/2018 09:09

You only need 3ml if you use a sponge/flannel. Any more than that is really quite wasteful ime.

Greyhound22 · 23/10/2018 09:10

Have you seen the solid shower gel? It's £7.95 - seems to be lasting well. Me and DS use it.

Holidayshopping · 23/10/2018 09:11

I love Snow Fairy but that really is expensive!

misskatamari · 23/10/2018 09:11

yanbu, they do seem very pricey nowadays. I used to love getting a treat like lovely soap or a bathbomb from there but just can't justify the cost now.

MrsVietor · 23/10/2018 09:12

I agree. I really want to try their naked shower gel and shampoo, but I can't justify spending £7.50 on shampoo when I can get it somewhere else for £2 a bottle.

Pinkyyy · 23/10/2018 09:12

Hers definitely never lasts her a year!

TheMythicalChicken I thought that was supposed to be the whole point of Lush? Even more disappointing then..

Rip off! As someone else mentioned above, if I was going for something that price I'd go for Molton Brown....

Fishandthechips · 23/10/2018 09:13

Completely agree! I was looking through the Christmas gift sets this week searching for the annual box we buy mil (only thing that she ever seems happy with recieving, much to my efforts to buy her a change). Its gone up £15! In a year, how is that ethical? Its 10 balls of bicarbinate of soda!
The price increase on the Wow box is staggering. Im sure that was £180 a couple of years ago.

TheMythicalChicken · 23/10/2018 09:14

Yeah, they’re guilty of a bit of greenwashing, unfortunately.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 23/10/2018 09:14

I don't think it is that expensive. Molton Brown sell shower gels in 300ml bottles for approx. £22, which makes the Lush 1kg bottle look like a bargain.

It's a good sized bottle and will last her most of the year so not sure why it seems expensive.

StarShapedWindow · 23/10/2018 09:15

I bought the 500ml bottle for my DC who I’ve bought it for every year since they were born but I did flinch at the bath bombs. I was going to buy a few but couldn’t believe the £5.00 price tag. I remember they used to do Ickle Baby Bath that was a small reasonably priced lavender bath bomb but the cheapest was £2.75 which is too much to spend on a single bath. I bought 2 big exciting looking bath bombs at £5.00 each for their stockings. I used to pop the bath bombs in the bath as an every day thing - now it’s a once a year treat.

I do think their solid shampoo is still good value for money.

berniee · 23/10/2018 09:15

I stopped using lush a couple of years ago because of this, the prices were getting ridiculous !

Pinkyyy · 23/10/2018 09:16

Fishandthechips last time I bought one of their Christmas sets I'm sure the wow box was under £100Shock
