I'm 38 weeks pregnant and have recently started having what I think are pre-labour contractions. They're a lot more painful than I thought they would be and I'm now dreading active labour. I've always weirdly looked forward to childbirth but now I'm starting to experience it, I feel a bit freaked.

Sorry for posting in AIBU. I know I'm not BU, but was wondering if anyone else experienced the same? A pre-labour freakout?

All of a sudden very scared about the pain and how I'll get through it...

You can totally lie btw, travelling could slow down the contractions anyway, so whatever they are when you set off might not be what they are when you get there... so if you really are struggling to cope, I’d go...

Anyway to answer your original question - with my second DC, I had a complete panic about giving birth... and having a second baby at all, after my contractions had started, rofl. My poor DP had me waking him up going, I’ve chanfed my mind, I don’t want another one, why the hell did you let me do this? lol

It was fine by the time it was anywhere near giving birth time

BitOfAKerfuffle · 22/10/2018 00:41

If you feel anxious or need pain relief go to hospital especially as you have a long drive.
Not all babies take forever to arrive. My first my contractions never got regular. I was having them for a couple of hours and just had a gut feeling that i needed to be in hospital. I arrived at hospital at 9.15 and was told i wasnt in active labour and id be safer going home because a first baby could take days....i insisted i stayed a while and at 9.53 yes just 38 minutes after my arrival at hospital my baby was in my arms !
It was a good job i turned up with my irregular contractions lol

Marcipex · 22/10/2018 01:05

Just go in as you have a long drive.
I'm so excited for you, and also this is my daughter birthday! I hope you have your baby today, please try to update later if you can.

FoxFoxSierra · 22/10/2018 01:54

I'm hoping you've gone in op, it doesn't sound like you have much longer to go until baby is here! Good luck and please come back and update when you can

Bobbiepin · 22/10/2018 02:46

I hope you've gone in OP. Thinking of you.

ActiveBlend · 22/10/2018 02:47

I haven't gone in. I'm just getting in the bath. Contracting pretty steadily at 10 minutes intervals. They're 2 minute contractions and I'm not coping very well. Going to call midwife from the tub!

Make a big fuss on the phone, grunt when you have a contraction and they will tell you to come in, you need some pain relief! Best of luck op Thanks

ActiveBlend · 22/10/2018 02:55

I've got to a point where I contract every time I move. If I sit up, roll over, walk. It's hideous!

ImSpeakingFigurativelyOfCourse · 22/10/2018 03:30

I had that with my 2nd DC! Every time I had a wee too, which was constantly 😬

Are you going into hospital? It sounds like you really really need pain relief Flowers

FoxFoxSierra · 22/10/2018 03:40

You are SO having this baby before the sun comes up!

Monty27 · 22/10/2018 03:50

Anytime now. Be strong. Good luck. Flowers

Isadora2007 · 22/10/2018 03:53

Hope you’re in the hospital having your baby now 👶

AhoyDelBoy · 22/10/2018 04:07

Good luck OP! You sound very strong 💪🏼
I got to the hospital after being in labour from 9pm-7am and when I was examined I was only 4cm. I remember being shocked and saying ‘Is that all!?’ Grin

ActiveBlend · 22/10/2018 04:15

Amazingly still at home. Waiting until contractions are 4 ish mins apart then heading in!

Please tell me gas and air makes a difference?!

OP posts:
Yeahmum · 22/10/2018 04:47

Oh OP - how exciting. Any news? I haven't given birth for 12 years, but two minute contractions sound long to me without pain relief.

Yeahmum · 22/10/2018 04:48

And yes, gas and air is wonderful stuff Grin

captainproton · 22/10/2018 04:58

Hi OP, if I were you I’d go to the hospital now. Contracting in a car is awful. At least at the hospital you can walk around and get your dp to rub your back, assist you.

Also gravity helps baby get down. Moving around, rocking on a birthing ball, walking up and downstairs gets your pelvis open. All these things will help speed up labour. Lying down will not help.

ActiveBlend · 22/10/2018 05:50

@captainproton I'm so exhausted I just had to lay down. I've been having contractions for 36 hours many of which are nearly 3 minutes long. The idea of standing right now makes me want to cry. I just want to shut my eyes...

frenchfancy · 22/10/2018 06:08

Wake DP if he is still asleep and go to hospital. Lying down will just make it last longer. You have an hours drive. Do it now.

Longtalljosie · 22/10/2018 06:20

I agree with frenchfancy. Those are very long contractions for early on. I think once you’re there you’ll relax a bit more

Monty27 · 22/10/2018 06:22

Blimey! Sounds like a taxi birth to me.
You need to move OP!

Bobbiepin · 22/10/2018 06:24

Op please get to hospital if you haven't already!

Yeahmum · 22/10/2018 06:31

Agree, hospital time.

humblesims · 22/10/2018 06:40

Another one here saying get thee to the hospital. Good Luck OP, You can do this. Flowers

DinosApple · 22/10/2018 07:02

How's it going OP?
I had a constant pain with my first, the midwives got me in and 24 hours later DD arrived.

G&A definitely helped!
