to suddenly be scared to give birth now my contractions have started?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and have recently started having what I think are pre-labour contractions. They're a lot more painful than I thought they would be and I'm now dreading active labour. I've always weirdly looked forward to childbirth but now I'm starting to experience it, I feel a bit freaked.

Sorry for posting in AIBU. I know I'm not BU, but was wondering if anyone else experienced the same? A pre-labour freakout?

All of a sudden very scared about the pain and how I'll get through it...

@Goggle4

Probably a good job as your previous comment wasn't very helpful for a woman frightened of giving birth Grin

fluffiny31 · 23/10/2018 19:56

I had my freak out when I first went in to labour 7 weeks early they managed to stop my labour. So when I went into labour a week and a half later I was really relaxed throughout. I knew I needed a c section but when I arrived they said I could try natural. I don't know how but I was really calm all the way through even when things took a turn for the worse. You can and will do it. If you haven't already not read all the posts. Congratulations mummy.

di2004 · 23/10/2018 20:03

I've had 4 babies, all grown up now!
.. yes it's a pain, but it's a nice pain.. that's the only way to put it.
At the end you will have your lovely baby!

Good luck & best wishes to you both x

jane251 · 23/10/2018 20:31

Be theatrical, scream your head off if you feel like it, and remember that no pain is worse than tooth ache and kidney stones (was told to me by my consultant).
Good luck!
And seriously, if it was so unbearable, the world would be nothing but one child families..

Oh wow what an amazing thread! Huge congratulations! thanks for bringing us on your journey, brought tears to my eyes!

PS try and have lots of skin to skin and when he has his eyes closed put a sleep mask on and do the same, you will need your reserves for this 24hr feeding machine! A magical time in life, best of luck, enjoy him xx

^ wtf?!

ActiveBlend · 23/10/2018 23:45

@adayatthebeach this was absolutely real. I'm still in hospital looking at my beautiful little boy right now.

@Schuyler ?

I am completely genuine and don't know why anyone would go out of their way to create such a story.

Baby boy is doing well. He's very tiny but we knew he was going to be small. Labour was pretty horrific and did most with no pain relief. Not my choice. They didn't believe I was as far along as I was due to being 0cm when I came in. Baby was born pretty quickly afterwards considering!!

Not going to share any photos of baby's face as would rather not, but here's a very blurry photo of what I'm currently looking at (it is dark in here). Teeny wrinkly baby hands!

Thanks all again. What an amazing experience. Not sure I would do it all again yet! 😜

agnurse · 24/10/2018 00:04

Aww! Little teeny baby hands! Enjoy your new squish and congratulations!

adayatthebeach · 24/10/2018 00:12

Sorry my bad. Congratulations. Flowers I’m getting cynical in my old age.

Nanalisa60 · 24/10/2018 00:55

As soon as you see your baby you will forget all the pain, that’s why there are loads of second baby’s!!

Friendlylynn · 24/10/2018 02:31

Well done on becoming a mummy.

No one can reàlly honestly prepare us for the pains associated with being in labour, as each of us has a different pain threshold and different ways to cope when in that much pain.

In my own case with my so far only child, I was told at several antenatal classes that the time spent in labour is usually a lot longer for the first child.

This is because our bodies are not used to giving birth and it is a new and horrible experience that we are putting our bodies through.

They claim that the second and third babies are easier, as our bodies are more used to giving birth.

In my delivery case, I woke up during the early hours of the expected delivery date at about 4.30 am, had a plate of toast and a mug of tea whilst monitoring the contractions.

By 6.30 the contractions were less than two minutes apart and the ambulance was outside the front door.

I nearly gave birth in the ambulance and was transferred immediately straight to a delivery suite, on arrival at the hospital.

My waters had already broken and the nursing team had got the Dr involved very rapidly.

My Son was not waiting around for hours and arrived at 9.06am, that same morning, after a natural birth and very little pain relief.

OlennasWimple · 24/10/2018 02:43

Little baby hands are the best..(apart from little baby feet!)

Congratulations OP Flowers

Ifeelinclined · 24/10/2018 03:03

Congratulations!

Teacher22 · 24/10/2018 06:46

The baby will be worth it.

Have an epidural.

Xenia · 24/10/2018 07:19

Cute baqby hands - looks lovely. Well done. My mother was similar - went in with first (me - the rest of us were born at home) and they would not believe how advanced she was (but she was) and they had to rush her in quickly to deliver me.

yorkrose · 24/10/2018 11:05

Well done op! Really pleased for you. Enjoy him!

Jayfee · 24/10/2018 13:06
