To be terrified of weigh in on monday

poptartprincess · 20/10/2018 21:46

I started slimming world this Monday, and im extremely overweight (bmi 44.1). I've been completely on plan all week, most days sticking to 4 or less syns. But today I had 14 and I feel so guilty and that I've messed up my weigh in. I can't handle seeing the scales go up again and I just feel awful using my syns at all. Will this have messed it up?

Oh life is too short

Eat more fruit and veg, exercise more, drink smoothies and water , don't think of food as syns

Sorry hate eating 'world's causes disorders IME

bigchris · 20/10/2018 21:50

Sorry I mean i hate slimming world, weight watchers etc, they make money on people's insecurities

RedPandaMama · 20/10/2018 21:50

You're allowed between 5 and 15 syns a day?

John4703 · 20/10/2018 21:50

Keep trying. You have made the first and hardest move by going to the class.
Don't worry if you make mistakes and eat too much, just pick yourself up and start again and keep telling yourself that you are a good person as you are going to the class and want to change. Don’t let mistakes get you down.

RedPandaMama · 20/10/2018 21:51

Sorry, posted too soon.

If you're extremely overweight as you said I'm pretty sure you'll have lost a significant amount of weight if you've been staying within your syns.

Stop worrying x

poptartprincess · 20/10/2018 21:51

@bigchris I've been excersizing everyday and practically living off if fruit and veg at the moment but I broke and had a millies cookie.

No it'll be fine the only way 14syns will make you heavier than last Monday is if you eat then.on Sunday night/ Monday morning.

FinallyMrsE · 20/10/2018 21:52

That sounds to me like you’ve had a brilliant week, slimming world is very clever and the syns are there to be used, if you’ve had less than 15 syns per day you will have lost weight, especially in week one.

Go to weigh in and see for yourself.

poptartprincess · 20/10/2018 21:52

I just feel really guilty using my syns and like I've done something wrong

I would think you will still have a loss. I don't know how slimming world works - I'm a weight watchers gal myself. But generally at the beginning of your journey you can have a blip and get away with it.

But if the scales show a gain - you know why. Don't be hard on yourself. It's a long journey.

Good luck. I'm 16 kilos down since July and I'm feeling amazing!

covetingthepreciousthings · 20/10/2018 21:53

When I was on SW, I used to have my full 15 syns pretty much every day & still lost.

Try not to worry too much OP

anappleadaykeeps · 20/10/2018 21:55

I bet you will still have lost a chunk of weight - can you come back on Monday and tell us if it's good news - I'm also trying to lose weight and nice to hear positive news

poptartprincess · 20/10/2018 21:55

Wow poodles that's amazing!! Congratulations! I hope I haven't gained. And thank you all. I'll go to weigh in on Monday with my finger crossed. Might ask my mum to come with me as it's daunting going alone

GreenMeerkat · 20/10/2018 21:56

I think you'll be surprised at how much you will have lost.

I would suggest having more syns a day as well or you'll end up becoming desperate and binging.

I tried to stick to 10 a day but went over occasionally. I lost 3 stone altogether over a few months, so a steady loss but I went from obese BMI to ideal weight and lower than my pre pregnancy weight too.

poptartprincess · 20/10/2018 21:56

@anappleadaykeeps yes of course. And I hope your weightloss goes well!

Thank you coveting and greenmeerkat! That's really reassuring :)

Allthewaves · 20/10/2018 21:58

Why are you feeling guilt. Isn't the whole point of syns to give you a balanced diet so you can have higher calorie foods. If you restrict yourself too much you will binge

Allthewaves · 20/10/2018 22:00

I also think you have to be sensible with sw. Stick to 3 meals a day, good portion of fruit and veg with each meal and try to limit snacking

Mammyloveswine · 20/10/2018 22:00

If your bmi is high and you have genuinely had less then 15 syns a day then I bet you'll have lost at least 7 pounds... I lost 4.5 pounds my first week and I only had a stone to lose to get to my target!

I love sw. There is a sw sub-thread on mumsnet that might be worth joining.

poptartprincess · 20/10/2018 22:01

I don't know really. I'm new to this. But I just hate my size and I hit breaking point - hence joining. I don't have a good relationship with food, and I feel bad eating the high calorie foods because of my size. I feel like I'm letting myself and my family down. It's stupid

You haven't done anything wrong by eating one cookie as a treat. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a treat, even when you're activiely trying to lose weight.

If you deny yourself everything, then you may struggle to make a long term change as it's hard to be so restrictive with food over a long period.

You need to find a comfortable balance in your diet, which includes occasional treats without feeling guilty.

I've lost a decent amount of weight on Weight Watchers (about 4 stone) and I found allowing treats made it much easier to stick to and I still lost weight pretty much every week I went. I'm sure Slimming World is no different.

I'm sure weigh in will be fine, hopefully you'll see you can have a treat and still lose weight.

poptartprincess · 20/10/2018 22:02

Wow Mammyloveswine that's amazing!! And thank you. I didn't realise there was a sw thread on here

Sparklesocks · 20/10/2018 22:03

If it’s worse than you hoped don’t beat yourself up too much, it’s a marathon not a sprint and some weeks will be better than others. Just use this to spur you on to try better next week.

Sparklesocks · 20/10/2018 22:04

Although I doubt a single cookie will make much difference tbh

SpiritedLondon · 20/10/2018 22:04

I really hate that they use the word syns... I’m not a huge advocate of SW as they seem to be hawking very outdated ideas of low fat. However, it’s what you’ve chosen. How many syns are you allowed per day? How many syns have you used over the week already? Are you able to save up syns for a treat? ( I think you used to be able too) The biggest enemy here is you and your anxiety about the weigh in. I doubt you blown anything if you’ve kept to the eating plan for the majority of time. If you are very overweight then this is going to take a little time but you can do it. You’re probably going to have a good weight loss the first week and with a bit of luck will have steady loss over the time. But if you don’t, if you maintain or gain a little bit it’s not the end of the word. Hormones and water retention all have an impact on how much you weigh. Get back into in.... be determined tomorrow- knock up some veggies with your dinner and maybe go for a walk or swim to boost your endorphins because if you feel good about yourself it’s so much easier to stick to an eating plan.
