The consultation on whether to allow any man to self identify as a woman closes at 11pm tomorrow. If we allow this to happen, we will never be able to put the genie back in the bottle when more women and girls are harmed.

And another bump.

Thank you all you wonderful women!

See if you can use the gift of a couple more days to get at least one more person to fill it in

All the people here doing this is great, but I think we need to be aware of something I was told today: there is a Stonewall website for people to send in their approved answers to this, and at least one person has simply sent that in for every single person in its address-book, including a person who discovered this had been done using her name and email address, and complained. That was how I knew.

If this has been widespread, there may be a lot of what I can only call fake answers going in. And I don't know how anyone can find out whether their name and email address have already been used, which might mean their comments were ignored.

It might be safest to email them your comments, using cut-and-paste from the website someone gave here because the official one wasn't working, put the answers into your own words rather than the ones on the fairplay website, tell them why you've done it and say that it is your comments nobody else's and they can email you to make sure. That's what I've just done, just in case. It's more effort but may be worth it.

Wouldn't you get a response to your email address to confirm?

I've had an email to confirm my submission AskingQuestions

Here it is, reproduced below:

"Thank you for your email.
If you submitted a response to the consultation by email it will now be recorded.
You can also submit a response to the consultation on reforming the Gender Recognition Act 2004 here using the online submission form.

Responses can also be posted to us using the hard copy consultation document and submission form and sent to: Department for Education, Sanctuary Buildings, Great Smith Street, London, SW1P 3BT.

If you are emailing with a query or question, a member of the team will aim to get back to you as soon as possible.
Please be aware we are receiving a significant number of emails as we are approaching the close of the consultation so we may be delayed in responding to you.
Kind regards,
GRA Consultation Team"
Ends...

So no worries at all, the response is subject to a Government check, to ensure that it's all kosher. If you click the appropriate box in your form, then the consultation team do not even reproduce your name when publishing the responses. You can stay very Anon.

Soooo looking forward to Doctor Haddock's myself. Smile HtH

birdseyesfrozen · 20/10/2018 17:28

To add.
You stay Anon if you request it for the publication of responses.
However, you DO have to provide personal information in confidence.

So, if people are using other peoples names etc., there are verifications in place, to ensure that you are not acting inappropriately.

Already done, but neighbour has completed one today. Former Girl Guide leader. Smile

I only found out about this on Thursday before the deadline had changed so just raced through the One Click Response to make sure that I was counted.

Now that the deadline has been switched to lunchtime Monday I've had more time to think about it and assemble my thoughts into a (hopefully) structured email to my local MP.

Probably outing but hey - also the last bit only applies if you live in Scotland but over all it might provide a template for other people to adapt and send to their own MPs. There's still time to put a bit of pressure on them personally ;-)

Like any other sane person I have enormous sympathy for anyone who genuinely feels that they were born into the wrong body, I cannot begin to imagine their misery and and genuinely happy that there is now support, understanding and help available. Still not enough sadly but I do believe (hope) that it will continue to improve.

I do however have very grave concerns regarding the possibility of allowing people to randomly 'self identify' their gender as this would be massively open to abuse by every pervert going around. We have already seen examples of this in female prisons and also in grooming crimes. If these monsters are legally allowed to self identify then no man, woman, boy or girl will be safe because it cuts both ways, female stalkers and pedophiles exist too.

Womens' shelters that provide much needed safety for many, many women every year would legally have to admit men that have 'self identified' as female, how on earth can that be right or fair?

I have also just heard that the equivalent consultation in Scotland happened at the start of the year, closing in March. If so this is a disgrace as I have only been made aware of this possible reform in the last couple of days and so I apologise for contacting you at such a late date.

You are my MP and I am counting on you to be one of the MPs that is not going to be browbeaten into submission by a small but very forceful minority.

You must include your name and address to confirm that you live in your MP's constituency.

To find your MP you can use www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/ and pop in your postcode or

www.theyworkforyou.com/

That's a good way to find out how your local MP votes generally :-P
