To ask if you've lost weight, how did you do it?

I'm desperate, I'm miserable in the way I look and really need dieting tips to get me started. I lost the weight before but after pregnancies and miscarriages etc it's all creeped back on.

So if you found something that worked, what was is?

Thank you.

I am trying to slim down a little (lose 1 stone or so) and am on low carb. I think this is where I was going wrong - I'd have carbs for breakfast, lunch and dinner (so cornflakes, a sandwich, then a meal with rice, potatoes or pasta).

I now try not to eat any pure carbs, and if I do I make sure not to for the rest of the day. For example, I went out and had a small amount of toast for breakfast today, and now won't eat anything else carb based today.

To be honest, I find it much easier than I thought (and I'm crap at dieting). Now I will have meat + loads of vegetables, as opposed to meat + a few vegetables + loads of rice/potatoes. It's not a change I've found hard to implement to be honest.

I also do lots of things like having cheese and cured meats - but whereas previously this would be accompanied by bread, I cut out any carb accompaniment.

I am feeling better for it and feel it's sustainable.

I’m 3 weeks into weight watchers and have lost 11lb. I really like the plan and have done everything else!

Lambbone · 18/10/2018 14:28

WeightWatchers

Joined in January.

Have lost 4 stone

Now at goal - just need to maintain.

Nice easy plan to follow. Would recommend it to anyone.

AskMeHow · 18/10/2018 17:13

Working out how many calories a day I need to live. Logging everything on my fitness pal to give me 100-200 calories a day deficit. Had to weigh everything to start with but can do it by eye now.

Drastically reduced portion sizes, drastically reduced the amount of takeaway I ate, hardly any booze.

Regular exercise, nothing too different from what I was already doing. Lost a stone in weight but my shape is totally different.

Hortonlovesahoo · 18/10/2018 17:17

I can recommend fitnaturally. Great, wholesome meal plans. Have a look at fitnaturally.co.uk

Before I had DD, I lost 2stone and have recently lost a stone again (post pregnancy weight). I'm never hungry and it's all about discovering a love of good, honest food.

Kezzamo · 18/10/2018 18:43

I do 5:2 I've lost 48 lbs since June. It's easy to plan, fits round kids great results

Gigglebrain · 18/10/2018 18:58

Another 5:2 vote. It’s sustainable, and as well as weight loss, it has amazing health benefits.

Knittink · 18/10/2018 18:59

I have decided, after many attempts at different diets, that it is well-nigh impossible to stick to one long-term if it involves cutting out a whole food group altogether or tedious counting, weighing, measuring or logging.

So I have two rules now: 1)I don't eat between 8pm and midday the next day (which I'm finding surprisingly easy) and 2) No sweet stuff except at the weekend (less easy!). I've only been doing it a little while, but it's definitely working. Nothing is completely banned.

Allthepinkunicorns · 18/10/2018 19:01

Don't eat crap and only eat when I'm hungry so no faddy diets. If I feel like snacking I have fruit or something else healthy and lots of walking.

WhatALump · 18/10/2018 19:03

I joined weight watchers and have been doing classes at the gym. It’s taken 2 years so far but I’ve lost 14 stone 10lbs.

ISpeakJive · 18/10/2018 19:10

I cut out bread and pasta completely.

Reduced my carb intake and would only eat it at dinner. I increased my protein and salad.

Limited my sugar intake to virtually nothing (only fruit and honey in my tea).

The weight dropped off and I didn’t exercise at all during this time.

amusedbush · 18/10/2018 19:15

I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been and DH has recently told me that he is bothered by it, and doesn’t fancy me.

I am considerably overweight (size 20, usually a 12-14) so I can’t be too angry at him but I feel like I’ve let this go so far, I don’t even know how to get back Sad

buggerthebotox · 18/10/2018 19:15

Focus and determination. Count everything. Don't lie. Allow yourself hunger. .lift weights.

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 18/10/2018 19:17

Download my fitness pal. Enter everything in it. Be absolutely mortified how much fat/calories/sugar you are eating. I mean enter absolutely everything!! Track track track your food. Find out how many calories your should be eating (bmr) and eat 200 caps less than that.

Ta1kinpeace · 18/10/2018 20:16

Amusedbush
You can get back, and you will.
Think about how you want to be when you are 55 / 60 - able to prat about on the dance floor or sitting at the side.
Make it happen.

This thread is CHOCK FULL of non faddy, non judgey good advice.
Pick three of the ideas and try them in turn.

amusedbush · 18/10/2018 20:36

Ta1kinpeace

Thank you. I’m just feeling overwhelmed. I’ve lost 3-4 stones twice before in my life and I know how hard it is, I just can’t believe I’ve gotten here Sad

I can do it again.

Ta1kinpeace · 18/10/2018 20:39

ambushedbush
You can and you will.
Start small ....
(1) No snacking. EVER. Two or three meals per day with NOTHING outside meal times.
(2) No booze on four days per week
(3) Start using MFP to see what you are actually eating - do not change it, just record it.
THose three things will help you find a healthy Way of Eating that will take you back to and keep you at Happy Weight

Nodancingshoes · 18/10/2018 20:43

Slimming World? I'm 10lb down so far. I have lost 2.5 stone on weight watchers before but put it back on 😭

ilovecherries · 18/10/2018 20:45

I’ve lost over 5 and a half stone on the mumsnet LCHF bootcamp.

Smallhorse · 18/10/2018 20:54

NO SNACKING EVER

Two or three meals a day

bluetrampolines · 18/10/2018 20:57

I cant get past 2 stone on 5 weeks. I've always lost weight by doing tons of exercise.

Ohheyyy · 18/10/2018 21:00

I lost 2stones in 3 months on slimming world and kept it off till I fell pregnant.

I definitely think you need to stick to group though in order for it to work.

bubbles092 · 19/10/2018 11:03

@Ohheyyy I did slimming world from home and managed to lose 4 stone so group isn't that essential. Online works better if people are busy or can't get to group.

Allegorical · 19/10/2018 11:11

Most effective and sustainable way I have lost weight is by skipping breakfast and not eating till dinner, not snacking in between meals and keeping at least one of my two meals a day relatively low carb/high protein. I allow myself one treat a day, usually straight after dinner. Something like a full fat yoghurt, small chocolate bar or

By just skipping breaksfast you are cutting a significant number of calories out of your diet and essentially doing a small fast. The main thing is not to snack before lunch time.

I can’t really abide limiting the type of food I eat especially cooking for a family.

Allegorical · 19/10/2018 11:11

By dinner I mean lunch by the way ( I am a northerner).
