To ask if you've lost weight, how did you do it?

I'm desperate, I'm miserable in the way I look and really need dieting tips to get me started. I lost the weight before but after pregnancies and miscarriages etc it's all creeped back on.

So if you found something that worked, what was is?

Thank you.

I've lost a stone since May, which obviously sounds slow but I put on weight easy but lose it slow .. I've started exercising 4 times a week from almost nothing. It's been a mixture of running and one PT session a week. I can now run 10K (though that's at a push for a special occasion), 6/7K is my normal distance. I'm hoping that losing it slowly will mean it'll be easier to sustain. I have another 2.5st or so to lose (am 45 so it's not as easy as if I was younger). I have made improvements to my diet though still have wine now and then, luckily I'm not a big snacker. Good luck.

I’ve lost 1st 7lb in 6ish months with weight watchers.

Long term, I think the 5:2 diet is easier to stick to, more sustainable than counting points every day. I’m not doing it now because apparently its not suitable for breastfeeding mothers and I don’t think I could... I need the calories!

Have a look at the 21 day meal plan (myadventuretofit on Instagram). The plan is about $15 and you get access to an amazing support group on Facebook. Some amazing results in quite short spaces of time.

I have no affiliation with them other than being a customer, now about to start the plan after seeing the results that people have had.

No calories (or sweeteners) from drinks, so no squash, soft drinks, or booze. I drink black coffee and water mostly, with only the odd treat glass of wine.

Also no desserts/chocolate/biscuits/cake. Im lucky I don't really have a sweet tooth. Bread only in moderation.

Lastly loads of fibre! Makes you feel full and helps things go right through...

Previously also had good results on the 5:2

Calorie counting and reducing portion sizes. I eat what I like, but smaller portions and just make sensible choices across the week.

I went from 79kg to 69kg (at 5ft 9 so didn’t have tons to lose). After an illness, I’m back up to 74kg but losing slowly & sustainably.

I joined group fitness HIIT classes, cut down on carbs and sugar as well as fizzy drinks and alcohol and threw away the scales. I dropped from a size 14 to a size 8/10 in 4 months. I started doing 3 classes a week which increased to 5 as well as a yoga class then progressed to Crossfit classes with the same PT. I didn't put weight on until I was 45 and it piled on overnight with peri menopause, I'm 50 now, slimmer that I've ever been, fitter than I've ever been and feel fantastic.

Low carb high fat. Follow the advice on the diet doctor website. 6 stone gone for good.

Stopped taking amitriptylene. Five stone fell off over the next four months. In the nine months since then another two have vanished.

I wouldn't recommend this method though. A hundred pounds of fat may have melted away but the skin that was surrounding it certainly hasn't.

I love the 5:2 diet, although I have to do 4:3 as I like to be able to eat whatever I want on my non-fast days and still lose weight. I do find it easy and sustainable, though, and have lost 2 stone.

For those who like 5:2... how do you actually function on fast days? I can barely cope with 1000 calories let alone 500 Confused

Sorry forgotten who has asked but...

Went from 12 stone to 10 stone so not a huge amount. As a pp said its cutting out all the crap, going back to eating natural.

Day example,

Porridge oats with water or almond milk
Fruit

Lunch- omelette, home made soup, salad with quinoa to bulk me up, roasted pepper stuffed with cous cous, courgette spaghetti with salmon. Butternut squash and sweet potato are always a good thing to add as a filler

Dinner- slow cooked beef in tomatoes with whole wheat pasta or rice

Chicken with veggies

The idea is proper meat with veg. Think 1960s before half the stuff we snack on was invented

Snacks- goji berries, ryvita, edemame beans, slice sourdough bread etc

Also to other pp I've definitely had days where ive eaten something naughty. Today i had a whole pieceof toast with jam! The important thing is to not give up after a little naughty treat. Life happens! Just try and not let too many slips happen

Team RH on Facebook. Lost 2.5 stone in 5 months. It's a really sensible, sustainable way of losing weight and keeping it off. And no silly restrictions - it's not low carb, there are no forbidden foods, and you don't starve yourself. Lots of people think they won't lose weight on it as the calorie allowance is generous, but if you stick to it you will lose weight.

Two meals a day with no carbs. Usually breakfast and lunch. (I'd eat yoghurt and tomatoes and stuff that probably has carbs in, just no bread/ potatoes/ rice etc.)

One normal meal, not too enormous, usually dinner with family.

Snacks of fruit and/or nuts. Cut out biscuits, cakes and processed sugary shite.

Plenty of protein at each meal. Two eggs or a can of tuna with veg at lunch. Chicken breast and salad, that sort of thing.

Weight off and stays off.

Allhallows
Hunger is all in your head.
Drink plenty of water and herbal tea / black coffee
Plan a high nutrient / low calorie supper (vegetable based)
and know that you can eat tomorrow

I've been using 5:2 for over 6 years and it works.
I can do three hours in the gym and then an afternoon at work
and then have a 400 calorie supper
without a thought
(my other hundred calories goes on semi skim milk in my tea)

Ditch the sugar and processed carbs. It's brutal to start, but your body soon adapts.

I have porridge made with water for breakfast and some crushed nuts/seeds, home made soup and a toasted wholemeal pitta for lunch, and evening meal is usually something like a veggie casserole or veggie curry/chilli with 2 tablespoons of wholemeal pasta/wholegrain rice.

I do lots of batch cooking so I've always got something in the fridge or freezer to grab and cook quickly. Being organised is the important bit. It's when you get hungry that you make bad food choices.

Sorry, but this made me chuckle! I appreciate you probably meant meals should be the 1960s fayre and then snacks like goji berries, but I enjoyed the two sentences together!

Going vegan. I think as much as anything because it means I am automatically restricted from most of the cheese/cake/chocolate/pudding that I would previously just stuff my face with, but my willpower is stronger because there's a reason I care about not eating them anymore (I'd always self sabotage when it was just about not eating because of my weight).

I'm also trying not to snack, to keep my portions sensible and to only eat when I'm actually hungry.

Flowers for your losses.

If you can cut out sugar, my DSIS and DP lost lots of weight following some sweet dishes, replacing oil with frylite, they still had a big breakfast beans bacon eggs mushrooms tomato with one slice of toast.

The chips are beautiful with a spice mix. DP loves his food and has been able to cope no problem with slimming world recipes. Goodluck and remember everyone is beautiful so just think about getting happier in you. Flowers

@AllHallowsQueen I quite often did one of my fast days at the weekend. I know it sounds mad, but I quite liked it - say on a Sunday I'd get up late, have an omelette or something for lunch, then have a really nice lazy day, a bath or nap or whatever took my fancy, and then a stir fry for dinner. Your stomach will rumble after dinner but you'll feel a million bucks the morning after.

Alternatively, you can plan a fast day for a day when you'll be out and about and very busy. Keep the calories you eat high protein and fat and low carb (e.g. prawn cocktail) and make sure you drink enough and you'll be grand. It's just one evening and the hunger fades really quickly and you do forget about it when you're absorbed in something else.
