Leaf blowing etiquette

shallichangemyname · 17/10/2018 19:24

Neighbour (N) is very fond of leaf blowing on his drive and frontage.
He does it at 7am including weekends which would BU in itself.
However, my AIBU is that N blows them away from his house and leaves them in a heap in front of my house. My driveway and front door are round the other side of my house, so the pile doesn't interfere with me but the big pile is still in front of my house. It looks a mess. There is also a park at the top of my road and lots of dog walkers walk up past our houses and there is only one pavement, so walkers have to wade through the leaves.
AIBU to think if you want to clear the leaves from your property and its frontage you should bag them up. The council collects garden waste fortnightly and you are allowed as many leaves as you like. He has a good size garden and path to the side of the house so plenty of room for him to store the garden waste bags in between collections.
There are A LOT of leaves round here, masses of mature trees all TPOd and a park.
AIBU or AIB precious?

I feel like going out there and sweeping them all back in front of his house. But I won't.

Yanbu. Not okay for him to just shift the problem.

PickleForPresident · 17/10/2018 19:30

Your neighbour is a CF. You should definitely go sweep everything out of your yard and back into his.

Singlebutmarried · 17/10/2018 19:31

Yes. Go out under cover of darkness and replace all leaves.

In fact I think I’d bag quite a few days worth up and deliver them all at once.

shallichangemyname · 17/10/2018 19:35

I meant you are allowed as many bags as you like. I am obsessed with leaves Grin

YANBU. Come the revolution and my promotion to world leader, number one on my to do list is the banning of leaf blowers - noisy, antisocial, environmental disasters.

Knittedfairies · 17/10/2018 19:42

Borrow a leaf blower and put ‘em back.

Santaclarita · 17/10/2018 19:44

I'd get a leaf blower and blow them back. See how long it takes him to get the hint.

Dollymixture22 · 17/10/2018 19:55

My leaf blower also sucks. So I vacuum the leaves rather than just move them about. It’s really loud so I only use it on weekends in he mid afternoon.

Talk to him - explain he is creating a huge amount of work for you and ask him to be more considerate

ToadOfSadness · 17/10/2018 20:01

One of our neighbours employs someone to do their garden and drive. One year they were blowing all the leaves in to the gutter and leaving them there to block the drains.

I took photos of them doing it, and the resulting mess and put them on fix my street. They now sweep them up. It can be done without anyone knowing who did it.

POPholditdown · 17/10/2018 20:06

Borrow a leaf blower and put ‘em back.

Ask to borrow hisGrin

NicoAndTheNiners · 17/10/2018 20:09

I don't understand leaf blowers. I see caravan site wardens spend hours blowing leaves about from one end of the caravan site to another but nobody actually picks them up! What's the point?

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 17/10/2018 20:09

Yes to putting them back! If he's put them in a handy pile on your property, just wait till he's not looking and brush the pile onto his side again!! Please!!

KeepServingTheDrinks · 17/10/2018 20:11

You need young children to jump in the pile and kick the leaves!

shallichangemyname · 17/10/2018 20:14

Nico I agree. There's only a point in blowing them if you then bag them up. If I ever got a blower I'd get one with a sucking function to hoover them all up. It's so pointless. First gust of wind (with a bit of help from my broom) and they'll be back in front of his house again Grin

OhComeOnRon · 17/10/2018 20:26

Please please please ask to borrow his leaf blower and blow them back Grin

Jamieson90 · 17/10/2018 20:37

I'd be having a word for blowing leaves at 7 AM at the weekend, seriously who does that? Hmm

calamariqueen · 17/10/2018 20:39

Yes yes yes to asking to borrow his blower & sending them all back GrinGrinGrin

donajimena · 17/10/2018 20:40

They must spend a fortune leaf blowing at my university. Within hours they have blown back. Its utterly pointless.

FrangipaniBlue · 17/10/2018 20:40

Omg I'd pay good money to watch you borrow his leaf blower to blow them back!!!!!

Number12 · 17/10/2018 20:57

OMG I have seen quite a few professional gardeners doing just this. It drives me bonkers! I mean what's the point, they need picking up. Someone near me does this and the cars woosh past sending the pile flying over to our side making it slippy to pull out in the car. So when I can be arsed im going to have a word.

@shallichangemyname sounds like you might live near me ..... I have a very annoying neighbour who blows leaves all times of the day

Even when it is windy
What's the point!

He also mows the pavement

And washes his car almost every day

I think he needs to get a life!

shallichangemyname · 18/10/2018 11:03

My parents have a neighbour who is constantly either blowing leaves, chainsawing logs or other electrical garden work. They don't get on and we think he times it to be deliberately annoying. The noise almost never stops, it's infuriating.

I am a little the worse for wear after a big day at work.
I have been out and done some sweeping of my own 😱
