At what SIL named her puppy..

I'm aware this is super petty and not a huge deal but it's really bothering me GrinConfused

We visit my SIL all the time. She's just gotten a puppy and decided to name it a name almost identical to my DDs name, bar one letter. The names sound the practically the same and we often get confused who is being referred to. AIBU to wonder why, seeing as there is billions of wonderful names out there, she had to choose DDs? Would you be annoyed?

Meh, this wouldn't bother me.

HildaZelda · 16/10/2018 12:46

My friend's DD (6) is called Lucy.
Their cat is called Lucyfur Grin

Chanelprincess · 16/10/2018 12:52

Pepe/Peppy is a very common dogs name so maybe she wasn't even thinking about your DD when she chose it. It's not that similar to Poppy.

abacucat · 16/10/2018 12:56

I honestly would not have thought twice about this. And most kids would love if a puppy had the same name as them.

Aprilislonggone · 16/10/2018 12:57

My eldest dd's bff was called Samantha. Her retriever was called Sam! She was chuffed to bits tbh!!
Sure your dd wil be too!!

CupMug · 16/10/2018 12:59

One of my kids is named after my aunties Dog and one is named after a very close neighbours cat. They were regular names though so not that outrageous

Is it Peppy after the character in the Starfox video game. That’s what immediately thought when I saw the name.

Peppy and Poppy wouldn’t bother me.

FlamingJuno · 16/10/2018 13:06

My friend bought a pet and gave it the exact name of her DGS - not as a tribute or anything, but just because she liked the name Confused. To be fair, the child will outlast the pet, but still, it was a very very odd thing to do. Her DiL is still Hmm about it.

MrsRhubarb · 16/10/2018 13:08

My DD has ended up with a nickname that is the same name at my DM's cat. I bet she thinks WABU. Grin

Laserbird16 · 16/10/2018 13:09

My colleague's daughter wanted to name her dog the same as my DD. My colleague made her adjust it by one letter. I didn't really mind.

We now have a bit of a joke that I'm going to name my second born after their other dog.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/10/2018 13:09

A male dog called Pepe pronounced Pepay?

RyderWhiteSwan · 16/10/2018 13:11

The solution is simple. Rename your DD 'Fido' Grin

MsLexic · 16/10/2018 13:11

Let's hope it isn't Ploppy, that will be bad karma enough.

Stonebake · 16/10/2018 13:12

I know a family where they had two girls and then got a dog which they named ‘Sophie’. They then had a surprise last baby and also named her ‘Sophie’! The dog was around for most of the child’s childhood. Very confusing but kind of funny.

HildaZelda
My friend's DD (6) is called Lucy.
Their cat is called Lucyfur grin

I actually love that

Nancydrawn · 16/10/2018 13:13

My parents' first dog and my aunt had the same name (the dog came first; aunt was an in-law, newly married to dad's brother). Think, say, Penny.

When my aunt came to stay at ours for the first time, the dog was very excited and putting her feet up on my uncle. My dad called from the other room, very firmly, "Penny, sit." The dog sat. Startled, so did my aunt.

Magicpaintbrush · 16/10/2018 13:14

My uncle named his dog the same name as my sister but it never occurred to us to question it as children - not sure what my mum thought about it though. It's a lovely name so I guess that's why.

doyouneedtoknow · 16/10/2018 13:16

My friend's brother found out he had a secret lovechild, a few months after the event, and the child had the same name as my friend's (the aunt's) dog

Lindy2 · 16/10/2018 13:16

No that wouldn't bother me.
They are 2 different names. Similar but different. I don't think anyone will confuse the puppy with your daughter or visa versa.

Orchiddingme · 16/10/2018 13:19

Pepe is not similar to Poppy, if you say it right.

thegrinningfox · 16/10/2018 13:22

Honestly? Is this a real problem?

neveradullmoment99 · 16/10/2018 13:23

Its not the same name, so no, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

canyouhearthedrums · 16/10/2018 13:23

There's a vlogging family that have a dd called Poppy and then got a dog called Poppy Puppy. Maybe you could ask SIL to double barrell Pepe/Peppy's name with Puppy to prevent confusion?

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 16/10/2018 13:23

I am guessing that the SIL never even considered the 2 names to be similar.
Because they aren't!

Pebblespony · 16/10/2018 13:24

I'm not sure they're close enough. Especially if they're not living in the same house.

MyKingdomForBrie · 16/10/2018 13:24

Why are half the posters assuming it's Pepe?! I imagine OP knows what the pet is called..
