To have thought I was the only OW...

We first met on my drive about 4 months ago. He came straight over to me as soon as he saw me. As he came over it was almost as if he was excited, which was weird because we had never met before. I thought he looked absolutely lovely. Beautiful black hair. Little bit of white going through it that I thought was really charming.

I fed him a little bit of tuna, and after that he wouldn't leave me alone! I have to admit, I loved the attention as my own cat had died a few months prior. I knew he had an owner, because he had a collar. But I just carried on feeding him because he was such a lovely little kitty! He even stopped over a few nights when my DH was away - nooooo way would DH let me have a random cat in the house!

I knew who his owner was as I saw him being let in a few times. Then one day, I noticed him being let into our next door neighbours!!! I couldn't believe it!!! I thought i was his second home!!! Turns out I was just one of many. He's being fed by multiple women on our street!!! In fact, his owner has had to stop feeding him because of how much he's being fed by other people!!! (I spoke to on her drive this morning).

Feeling very betrayed. I will have to stop feeding him now. Fat shit.

Old Cat brought me a pound of sausages he stole from a neighbour - she had put them on her worktop to thaw

He also brought me part of a doner kebab from a student house down the road

and once came home with burned paws from stealing from a BBQ

and STILL hadfive breakfasts a day

lexi727 · 14/10/2018 15:26

@ratspeaker have spoken to the owner - I'm friends with her!

I had a cat who would lie terribly to people and say he was starving. I got reported to the RSPCA and to a local cat charity. The RSPCA checked us out but the local one took him. He was missing for a couple of days and I was frantic with worry. When I eventually found out where he was, the woman said 'Oh he seemed rather well fed for a stray' I gave her what for and refused to pay for the needless tests she had put him through. I told her she had stolen my cat, even knowing he was too well fed to be a stray on the say so of a stupid, judgemental neighbour. DO not feed other peoples cats. It is just not fair.

lexi727 · 14/10/2018 15:36

@TheBigFatMermaid for the 50th time I KNOW THE OWNER.

To everybody getting upset at feeding other people’s cats, I thought cats didn’t belong to anybody hence why you don’t bother picking up their shit? Hmm

sobeyondthehills · 14/10/2018 15:39

One of my cats was being fed by the neighbour, when I asked them to stop due to him having to go on a diet, he started stealing their shoes in protest.

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 14/10/2018 15:41

Your neighbour started stealing your cat's shoes? Your cat wears shoes? Wow. Just wow.

Flooffloof · 14/10/2018 15:44

I will pick up my cats shit, if someone asks me and can prove it's my cats (pictures cctv whatever)
I refuse to pick up every cats shit though, that's not my fault.

JustDanceAddict · 14/10/2018 15:46

Not nice. Our old cat was stolen from us like this despite repeated warnings to the neighbour not to feed him.

chocsahoy · 14/10/2018 16:13

@lexi727 thanks!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/10/2018 16:35

”To everybody getting upset at feeding other people’s cats, I thought cats didn’t belong to anybody hence why you don’t bother picking up their shit?”

Cats don’t belong to anyone. We belong to them.

Two sayings that illustrate this:

Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

In Ancient Egypt cats were worshipped as gods - they have not forgotten this!

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 14/10/2018 16:39

Our neighbours kept feeding our old cat and letting him in. He had heart problems and getting overweight didn't help. It also meant it was a nightmare for me to get him in for grooming, vets visits etc. Kept telling her to pack it in. In the end he dropped dead in her garden. They called me to retrieve him (obviously didn't want to shell out for that!!), with 'mum's everso upset'. Told them so was I, and what did they expect to happen after I'd warned them? I'll never forgive them ...

SoupDragon · 14/10/2018 16:42

No, it’s because we don’t follow them round all day with a little scoop. Since I do follow my dog when he’s out, I pick his up. The cat had a litter tray.

Ta1kinpeace · 14/10/2018 17:37

Legally you are not responsible for the actions of your cat
you ARE responsible for the actions of your dog

Saved us a FORTUNE when Old Cat attacked a neighbours rottweiler yes really, landed on his back from a flat roof and nearly took his ear off .... their bill was over £400 !!

SoupDragon · 14/10/2018 17:40

If my cat had attacked someone’s dog and caused that amount of damage I would have offered to at least contribute to the bill, legal requirement or not.

Ta1kinpeace · 14/10/2018 17:47

Soupdragon
There was a bit of history between the animals
and I did offer
but they were a tad embarrassed that the cat had beat up the dog Grin
BUT
I gave them permission to empty buckets of water over him if they ever got the chance
About a week later he came home SOAKED
I saw them in the street and they looked sheepish till I grinned and laughed.
He was a WONDERFUL cat but I think ALL of our neighbours must have hated him
He died ten years ago and I still miss him every day

To have thought I was the only OW...
Upslidedown · 14/10/2018 17:58

My cat is a bastard. The other day I was walking up the street and saw him sunbathing in a neighbours bay window. He just looked at me like he didn't know me.

Once he came home wearing a collar and was begging me to take it off. I was tempted to tell him to fuck off back to his OW but he gave me the look and I forgave him for his fecklessness.

I know I should LTB but I still love him 😔

CandleWithHair · 14/10/2018 18:27

@lexi727 I wish you were my neighbour! One of my cats needs an OW. Very similar situation to you, he’s always been a bit wild and refuses to come inside the house because he and my other cat don’t really get along (unlike your situation, I have a catflap and he is most welcome inside if he wanted to come in). He has a little outdoor house because I worry about him in the cold but there’s very little I can do about the situation short of locking him in, which he’d hate.
He obviously sleeps somewhere but I have no idea where! Maybe there is an OW somewhere...

I’m sorry you’re getting such a hard time from some posters, in my view you’ve done that cat a great kindness and I’m sorry the little ingrate is cheating on you Grin

holasoydora · 14/10/2018 19:19

One of 'my' cats was a rescue cat who ran off (twice) despite me keeping him in for weeks. I have seen him sunbathing in local gardens twice but could not get him to return. As far as I know he is homeless and raiding people's cat flaps but I desperately hope he has found an OW and that I am wrong, because it turns out you can't tell a cat where to live.

In turn, I accidentally adopted a genuine stray. He refuses to live inside and like candle He has a cat house which he occasionally frequents and access to my back porch. He hates the door being shut and has only ever slept inside twice in three years. Some cats just like living outdoors! Having said that, he'd defo ditch me in a heartbeat (between courses) if there was a willing OW...

fifithefoof · 15/10/2018 01:00

Cats are such pricks. 🤣

Sheilasfeels · 15/10/2018 17:33

Oh my god the butthurt people who want to have you arrested are doing my head in 😂 My cat is such a walkabout bastard that my nextdoor neighbour had to put a microchip catflap on their door because he kept coming in and eating all their cat's food. He figured out how to open the cupboard we keep his food in, and kept coming down in the morning to find he'd eaten himself sick and then was begging for breakfast. We had to put a childlock on the cupboard, but he hasn't lost any weight so someone is keeping him topped up!

Jaxhog · 15/10/2018 17:44

Poor cat. Unloved by his owner, not awanted at home or even allowed into his own house much. He's very lucky that he has love and from you and others. Why don't you adopt him and give him somewhere to call home that is warm and cosy, and where he is loved and safe?
