To have thought I was the only OW...

We first met on my drive about 4 months ago. He came straight over to me as soon as he saw me. As he came over it was almost as if he was excited, which was weird because we had never met before. I thought he looked absolutely lovely. Beautiful black hair. Little bit of white going through it that I thought was really charming.

I fed him a little bit of tuna, and after that he wouldn't leave me alone! I have to admit, I loved the attention as my own cat had died a few months prior. I knew he had an owner, because he had a collar. But I just carried on feeding him because he was such a lovely little kitty! He even stopped over a few nights when my DH was away - nooooo way would DH let me have a random cat in the house!

I knew who his owner was as I saw him being let in a few times. Then one day, I noticed him being let into our next door neighbours!!! I couldn't believe it!!! I thought i was his second home!!! Turns out I was just one of many. He's being fed by multiple women on our street!!! In fact, his owner has had to stop feeding him because of how much he's being fed by other people!!! (I spoke to on her drive this morning).

Feeling very betrayed. I will have to stop feeding him now. Fat shit.

@Tistheseason17 the actual owner of the cat is one of my close friends. She is happy he is being let in elsewhere as she can't have him in the house due to her indoor cats. The only owners I'm upsetting are owners of other cats who haven't read the thread to see that I'm friends with the owner and have her permission.

@Alienspaceship that's so lovely!

You really shouldn't be feeding someone else's pet and letting it into your house. If you're worried about it being cold then speak to the owners or phone sspca (or whatever the equivalent is in your area)

kaytee87 · 14/10/2018 12:51

Crosspost with your update

SharedLife · 14/10/2018 13:02

My cat is fed by multiple neighbours. He only comes back for a quick nibble once a day, never further in than the kitchen. My DC is very upset and so am I. I don't see him long enough to check his condition and can't always keep up with his flea treatments. If it's my cat you've pinched i hope he gives you fleas.

CitrusFruit9 · 14/10/2018 13:06

I used to have a cat who was profligate with his affections :)

I used to watch him out of the upstairs window working his way down the street shouting at various neighbours doors until they let him in and fed him. I think on our street of about 14 houses at least 8 were feeding him.

When we moved house he stayed with us at the new house for two weeks then walked home (about three miles) and moved in with one of the neighbours! He clearly had his life sorted to his satisfaction so I left him to it. Neighbours were happy to keep him.

@SharedLife do you often comment on posts without reading the updates or do you just like to post random comments on things and hope they make sense?

@CitrusFruit9 what a dedicated/greedy little cat!

OP you are still a cat thief. Paws for thought next time Grin

Flocksofsocks · 14/10/2018 13:18

Cats are nocturnal animals. They like to be outside at night, roaming their territory and hunting. I have a few cats and they have a cat flap so can come and go at night. They prefer to be outside.

Also, please don't feed other people's cats or let them into your homes. I had a cat with kidney problems so had to be on a strict low-protein diet. Feeding them tuna could have been harmful.

BewareOfDragons · 14/10/2018 13:20

Get your own cat.

I hate it when other people feed my cat.

DooDaisy · 14/10/2018 13:20

Cat Stalker!

cardibach · 14/10/2018 13:24

Your eplanation isn’t adding up here OP. You said he can get in and out in the day but at night the cat flap is locked. Now you say he’s out because of indoor cats. How are they indoor if there is a cat flap?

DiveBombingSeagull · 14/10/2018 13:24

Hmm that is something of a back tracking drip feed part way through.

FWIW I have two DCs with learning difficulties who would be unable to sleep if our cats didn't come home at night as they were locked in someone else's house, so I can understand why people were getting angry at your "hilarious" thread.

dulcefarniente · 14/10/2018 13:25

I know this is a light hearted thread but anyone reading it that thinks it's ok to feed a cat that's not yours please think again. My dc's adored cat went missing for a couple of weeks because someone started feeding her and then took her in. The stress it put the family through was terrible.

SharedLife · 14/10/2018 13:27

Sorry Lexi, i wasn't expecting such a massive drip feeding "surprise" twist. Hmm

lexi727 · 14/10/2018 13:27

@cardibach the indoor cats don't try and get outside. He literally just goes in for food and then straight back out again to wherever else he goes! He causes mayhem at night and terrorises the indoor cats so that's why they have to keep him out.

OP posts:
lexi727 · 14/10/2018 13:28

@SharedLife it's hardly drip feeding! It was a lighthearted post that I didn't realise would require so much further explanation. Next time I will write a disclaimer.

OP posts:
lexi727 · 14/10/2018 13:30

@cardibach also - the indoor cats were never originally meant to be indoor cats. They have chosen not to go out (both very nervous about the outside world, rarely leave the upstairs of friends house!

For those who feel their cats are being "catnapped"
PLEASE
Put a tag on their collar explaining

Cats are masters at appearing starving
so the other feeders may not realise that they are on breakfast #3

When old cat was being fed we invited the others to share his vet bills
they stopped

A truly starving cat (like compost cat was when I found her)
inhales their food rather than eating it

GabsAlot · 14/10/2018 13:36

phone rspca and tell them then dont keep letting him in and feeding him

GabsAlot · 14/10/2018 13:38

well after that-i still say ytour friend is being cruel re home him dont just lock him out

RangeRider · 14/10/2018 13:38

You are feeding him and encouraging him to move it though. It’s shitty. No excuses. And as Alpaca says you have no way of knowing the health needs of someone else’s cat. He isn’t yours. Stop making this a joke.
This ^^. There are people who are distraught because their cats go missing and the whole time someone else is feeding them and posting pictures on Facebook saying how bloody kind they are for looking after the cat that's turned up. No! Don't feed it, don't encourage it and it'll head back home to where its servant/owner has been going mad with worry. These people drive me bloody bonkers.

Cat whore!

For those who feel their cats are being "catnapped" PLEASE Put a tag on their collar explaining

My cat removed collars at a rate of at least 2 per week.
