To just want a bra that fits

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 05:57

Aibu?

I just want a bra that fits and every bra I buy seems fine but by half a day in the wires are digging into my armpits.

I’ve been oroperly measured in an independent shop and in bravissimo so I know the size is right.

If it’s nit the size is it the style? And what style should I look for?

I’m desperate just to be comfortable.

Bras are horrible, but underwire bras are the devil's work and from my experience, completely pointless. I stopped wearing bras with wires in them 10 years ago, and I will never wear one again. They are total misery. I have found several bras without wires that are very supportive and lifting, even though I still hate them. But at my age, unless I want my tits at my waist, I have to wear them.

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 06:07

I hate them. I looked online and it said to bend the wires out and I tried. But why should I have to. And it didn’t work anyway. I just want a bra that is comfortable.

Might see if I can get one ierh no wires then.

I’m 50 in a fortnight.

I’m too old for this shit.

Sports bras are amazingly comfortable. You can try them on in M and S.

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 06:14

I just want to put a bra on in the morning and it fits.

I don’t want to have to adjust this and bend that and swoop and scoop and tighten this.

I just want a bra. That keeps my tits from falling to my knees, stops them hurting my back, the straps don’t fall down and it doesn’t stab me in the armpits.

Men wouldn’t wear pants that stabbed them in the bollocks.

Sports bras are the most uncomfortable bras, I have terrible trouble with them. They seem to be several sizes too small, and even trying on bigger sizes they are still uncomfortable.

I have managed to find a couple in Sainsbury's which are ok but I wouldn't want to wear them for longer than I have to.

shearwater · 14/10/2018 06:16

Have you tried Sainsbury's comfort bras?

I wouldn't wear them for jogging but they are comfortable for everyday wear.

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 06:18

Where am I going to get a 36j sports bra that doesn’t require a second mortgage and selling my first born child?

I'm with you, OP! I HATE every bra that I've ever had. It's exactly as you said, half a day in on a new bra that felt fine upon purchase and the wires dig in or it's horrible in some other way. I've tried underwires, no underwires, specialty bras, and almost every style available. I've been properly measured and fitted more than once. None of them have been comfortable for very long. Small or medium sports bras wouldn't fit me and I've yet to find a sports bra in my size with any support. I don't know what the answer is, but I'm with you on the search!

chitofftheshovel · 14/10/2018 06:27

Feel very lucky to be very small breasted and not own a bra.

IDismyname · 14/10/2018 06:30

I’ve had success with Debenhams. They stock quite a wide range.
Alternatively Rigby and Peller. They may put you into second mortgage territory.
Either way, I only ever buy one type of bra, before taking it home to wear for a few weeks. And only then do I decide If they’re any good.

shearwater · 14/10/2018 06:32

This is one of the reasons I'm losing weight. Bras are so much more comfortable when you aren't fat.

fishfingersandketchup · 14/10/2018 06:33

M&S have brought out a range of really comfy non wired bras. I gave up on wired bras a couple of years ago. I'll try and find a link.

fishfingersandketchup · 14/10/2018 06:37

Hmm its these but not up to a j cup sorry

I’m a size 14. So curvy but not obese.

My DD is a 28h as measured by the same shops as me we just have big boobs. My mother and grandmother were the same.

I had big tits when I was 20 and a size 8.

I never found a supportive sports bra that didn’t feel like I was going for a mammogram.

I've given up on regular bras for the most part, after trying the Genie Bra. I have a slew of those in different colors.
And more recently, now I mostly wear only bodyshaper tanks, so it's smoother under clothes.
So very very comfortable.
The Genie Bra, I get in a smaller size, and take the stupid pads out.
Same goes for body shaper tanks, (wear without a bra) smaller size for better support.
I do still have a few nice pretty bras for special occasion.
DH likes me in anything - or out of anything, ha!

The only downside of the GB or bodyshaper tanks, no good with sundresses, or low cut tops. But I rarely wear those anymore anyway.

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 06:43

I will try Debenhams thanks for that.

I’m just fed up. If men had tits there would be a bra type garment that you just put on and it fitted.

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 06:44

The genie bra looks good but will it keep my tits up enough?

OP posts:
jellycat1 · 14/10/2018 06:58

I was wearing the wrong size for years until I went to rigby and peller. Since then I've worn one style and that's Marie-Jo Avero. They're expensive but perfect and last a good while if you wash them carefully.

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 06:59

I hand wash. Dry flat over the bath.

Maybe I’m going to have to bite the bullet and go to Rigby and Peller.

VickieCherry · 14/10/2018 07:03

Are you not scooping your boobs into the cups? If not, that's why the wires are digging in - your breast tissue will be sitting behind the wire.

A quick scoop while leaning down and it should be ok.

Otherwise I'd say something like the Genie bra might work for you, but they don't offer much support and at a J cup you need engineering to hold everything in place (I'm a FF/G). You could try Rigby and Peller if Bravissimo aren't working out for you, though I've always found them brilliant. Service does vary depending on the shop though.

blueluce85 · 14/10/2018 07:10

I second the "swoop and scoop" that is a necessary part of putting a bra on!

Also, just to confirm the measurements (I've heard some bravissimos are great and some not so) have you heard off boob or bust? Give this a try to confirm measurements booborbust.com/

OrdinaryGirl · 14/10/2018 07:18

Have a look at the Boob or Bust website which has a different way of measuring for bra size and an online calculator.
I thought I was a 34B for years, then measured using this calculator thing and it turns out I am a 30DD / 32D. Suddenly bras became a lot more comfty.

I should add, there is no way you would think I was that size to look at me (think ironing board), but my bras now fit perfectly.

It was people on my MN birth club (which has been going for 5 years now Smile) who recommended it to me - loads of them have done this Boob or Bust calculator too and rave about it.
