To just want a bra that fits

Aibu?

I just want a bra that fits and every bra I buy seems fine but by half a day in the wires are digging into my armpits.

I’ve been oroperly measured in an independent shop and in bravissimo so I know the size is right.

If it’s nit the size is it the style? And what style should I look for?

I’m desperate just to be comfortable.

32HH Blush here. I was wearing Fantasie balconette bras for years, in a size 34FF but started to feel my tits were making me look mummsy. Went to Bravissimo and have been measured as a 30G, I refused as it felt too tight, and have settled for a 32HH Erin bra, and now they are much more perky Smile. The Erin is supposedly a full cup, but doesn't actually come all up and around, which I find is the problem with wires digging in. Feeling under my armpits, I can feel the wire doesn't come all the way up, so perhaps that is why it is so comfortable. Generally myself, and my well endowed daughters, all go for balconette or plunge, as the wires aren't so long/high and therefore don't dig in.

It's a 34B on a 30 underband and 34 boobs. It's the perfect size, fits in exactly the way it should with no fat spillage under arms etc. and just minimal gapping on one side and very slight overspill on the other side as my boobs are not quite identical so there's a compromise between left and right!

OlderThanAverageforMN · 15/10/2018 11:24

Sorry, just read that back, that doesn't make sense. I can tell you though that I am wearing a 32HH..... so the 30 she suggested must have been a J not a G !!!!!

treaclesoda · 15/10/2018 11:27

It definitely is round the boobs for me! Shall I post a picture with the tape measure to prove it?!

As I said, I wasn't telling you to try something else. It's your bra. It doesn't matter to me what size anyone else wears.

Lexilooo · 15/10/2018 11:36

Have you tried a doreen? Not pretty but supportive without wire.

Ryderryder · 15/10/2018 11:37

I am with you op. That and shoes. I spent a whole day shopping trying to get shoes and a bra for a special event.
When dh made a joke about me being out all I want to punch him.
Currently wearing a fantisie full cup wired which for me is the best of a bad bunch. Still doesn't sit quite right and the straps need adjusting alot but at least it doesn't hurt. Costs about 40 quid in bravissimo but cheaper online.

Haven't RTFT but definitely recommend Rigby and Peller. You need a fitter who takes your measurement right but also understands the nuances of the shapes they sell. I was used to being black and blue under the armpit and in the middle of the chest from the underwires, no matter how good the bra felt in the shop. Didn't have this with any R&P bra

ChristmasFluff · 15/10/2018 12:24

As a broad suggestion, I'd say that your back size is too large, and so it is riding up and the wires sticking in your armpits - it also happens to me if I buy very elasticky bras, or if the back stretches - that would be why they are ok at first, but after half a day or so they've moved.

I also find Freya bras do it less than other brands.

MissMisery · 15/10/2018 12:44

Bras are, in fact, the work of the devil and I have been SO much more comfortable since I ditched mine about 6 months ago.
I guess as an A/B cup you could argue i don't need one so much ....perhaps if you are larger chested you need one. But for my money - noppity nope nope nope

MissMisery · 15/10/2018 12:47

Also bra sizing is bullshit. Try being measured in 3 different shops on the same day.
Almost guaranteed 3 different sizes.

VickieCherry · 15/10/2018 13:01

Confusion around bra sizes stems from the old days when bras were much more rigid, and so you added X amount of inches to get your actual size. That's not necessary anymore with modern fabrics, but still people persist in believing it.

Measuring with a tape measure is of limited use. You can measure under the bust to find out the estimated back size (they should be the same), but some people might find a size smaller or bigger more comfortable. Generally women are wearing a bra too big in the back because they think they're more comfy - but actually, a properly fitting, tighter bra would be more comfortable because your bust would be more supported. The band should do the work, not the straps.

@ferrier, if your overbust measurement is 34ins and you're wearing a 34 back bra you are definitely wearing a bra that's too big. I'm something like 37 underbust, 48 over and I usually wear a 38 back.

Alicatz66 · 15/10/2018 17:45

Sashkin .. I'm the same size as you . My friends also seem surprised when we are discussing bra sizes .. probably because most people are in the wrong size .. I became a H while pregnant many years ago . Had to get avTriumph Doreen !!

ferrier · 15/10/2018 19:34

@ferrier if your overbust measurement is 34ins and you're wearing a 34 back bra you are definitely wearing a bra that's too big. I'm something like 37 underbust, 48 over and I usually wear a 38 back.

I will say it again. I am definitely in a bra that is the right size for me. It looks right, the straps stay up, the band is snug, there's no bulging except as accounted for by my slight lopsidedness, underwires are comfortable and my boobs are nicely supported.
I have a 32C which is really pretty and didn't come in 34B and I can't wait to get out of it at the end of the day. I couldn't even do 30D up.

I do believe this big difference in opinion over bra sizing (I'm not the only one who swears by my sizing!) has something to do with size of boobs and size of rib cage. I'm relatively small of boob. My rib cage is very pronounced and has no spare flesh on (if only I could say the same for my belly).

I’m a G cup and really like M&S ‘fuller cup’ bralettes
