To just want a bra that fits

Aibu?

I just want a bra that fits and every bra I buy seems fine but by half a day in the wires are digging into my armpits.

I’ve been oroperly measured in an independent shop and in bravissimo so I know the size is right.

If it’s nit the size is it the style? And what style should I look for?

I’m desperate just to be comfortable.

Have you done your Boob or Bust size?

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 08:46

Not yet - I will do later when I find a measuring tape!

Believe me I’ve spent a fortune in the past! I’ve now discovered Tesco non wired bras and they are amazing! Honestjy, about £10 too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/10/2018 08:54

If the straps fall down your bands too big. Happened to me until I went down two band sizes.

It sounds like the wires are wrong for you, I was set on one style but about 5 mins in the changing room it was digging in under my arms, I tried a wider style and it fits well.

Poodles1980 · 14/10/2018 08:55

Like a lot of people are suggesting do boob or bust. I have huge boobs and I have never been able to find bras, did this out of desperation when I read about it on a thread here and it really worked. Totally changed my bra size. I ordered a few from bravissimo and have now through trial and error found a style I like. I don’t buy other ones now

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 14/10/2018 08:55

I was going to suggest R&P. I’m evangelical about them and although they are taking out a mortgage expensive, they make such a difference.

I’ve been fitted there and bought a couple of bras, one of which I still wear six years later, although it really is on its last legs now. Then I wait for their sales, look for the same make and style (Prima Donna) and buy online.

I really would give them a try if you can get to a shop. It’s better than buying cheaper bras that you can’t wear.

reluctantbrit · 14/10/2018 08:57

How many different brands did you try at Bravissimo? I am a 34H and over the last 15 years had to change the brand several times as my boobs. change shape.

I am currently wearing Bravissimo’s own brand before that it was Freya and Panache. The fitter there confirmed that different brands do not fit everybody.

I can’t imagine wearing a sports bra each day for normal wear. Mine are cut so high, I can’t wear a normal top and with my bust a high neck or crew cut top looks awful

woodhill · 14/10/2018 09:03

I find Fantasie bras good and wires don't dig in. I'm quite wide spaced itms.

30 back size 10. Found Bravissimo very good and bras vary so much

LakieLady · 14/10/2018 09:05

Problem with me (and you it sounds like) is my boobs start really far back. For some the wire sits more on the front.

I have the opposite. A lot of bras that will accommodate the volume of my norks (38EE) have the wire right round by my armpit.

I'm another who swears by Debenhams. They have such a wide range of styles in big sizes that I can always find one that fits.

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 09:08

Off to see if I can find a tape measure hold on ....

LittleCandle · 14/10/2018 09:10

Where I used to work, we fitted bras, and everyone who came in wearing a Bravissimo bra had on a poorly fitting one. I would never recommend them at all.

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 09:14

Boob or bust says 34hh

OP posts:
buggerthebotox · 14/10/2018 09:16

I'm 59 and a 32dd or e.

I've bought some bras from Peacocks that are non-wired, with thin straps. They're brilliant.

Removable inserts too. Cheap as chips.

I take an 8 in them and feel perfectly comfortable.

treaclesoda · 14/10/2018 09:22

I was going to say the same as some others, that falling down straps usually means the band is too big, because a too big band leaves the straps sitting too far out on your shoulders.

MrsRespoDad · 14/10/2018 09:30

You want a nice Doreen bra, dear.

Bodear · 14/10/2018 09:43

That’s really interesting OP, makes more sense with your dress size maybe. Would you try some in that size?

Cookit · 14/10/2018 09:51

Yes I think the BOB rule of thumb is band should be no larger than dress size + 20, so 34 would seem more likely.
I agree re: bra straps falling down generally means bra band is too big.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 14/10/2018 09:53

delilahbucket that's a good point. I'm 32ff and just fit in a 12. Sometimes a 12 pulls too much over my boobs. OP, I'd be surprised if you were a 36 back with J cup if they fit in a size 14 top.

Thenewdoctor · 14/10/2018 09:53

Ok. So where do I go? Bravissimo have been wrong so Debenhams?

OP posts:
specialsubject · 14/10/2018 09:55

Sainsburys had a perfect.bra - no wires, no padding, no itchy ugly lumpy lace ( very rare) and wide straps. I got the last two in my size and will wear to disintegration. £6 each.

Cups a bit big but as there is so little choice if you want comfort , it is good enough.

ChoudeBruxelles · 14/10/2018 09:56

I’m 36ff and now only buy bras from bravissimo. Set aside a couple of hours and go and try on loads in the store. Their staff are fab and will fetch lots of different styles for you

MrsStrowman · 14/10/2018 09:58

BOB didn't work for me, I am the opposite of you OP straight up and down, fairly flat chested but broad back and shoulders. I'm a ten when not pregnant BOB said I'm a 30 band but I can't breathe in a 30, I am a 34 A or B depending on the shop, long line fifties type and plunge styles suit me best although I'll never have cleavage. I was looking forward to pregnancy boobs, hurtling towards eight months and nothing. R &P might be worth a visit to get the style right, then you know what to try in other places. I know it's extortionate, but it's your comfort everyday.

reluctantbrit · 14/10/2018 10:01

LittleCandle - I had the opposite. Every other store I got measured was awulf and only Bravissimo fits.

I think it is so up to the fitter. I can only speak from the London Oxford Street store though.

My worst experience was Rigby & Peller (Birthday present treat) who not only got a tape measure out but got it so incorrect that I basically said I go out unless you get me a different size.

ferrier · 14/10/2018 10:04

BOB seems to work better for larger women. I'm a 34B and if I try to squeeze into the 32C then I would be complaining like OP. At 30D, as suggested by BOB, I would expire on the spot!

I believe that Bravissimo does BOB. Debenhams doesn't. Nor does M&S. It's all very confusing. If only they'd all do the same life would be much easier.

RooKangaroo · 14/10/2018 10:09

Molke! No underwires, all soft and stretchy (but still with support), and some awesome patterns.

About £30 each.

I have five and they're all I wear! I never even think about my bra now as I never need to adjust or check, and they give awesome lift.

Molke! Did I mention they're awesome! Grin
