We've been looking for somewhere to rent and found a lovely old house. Everything it lovely except it doesn't have a shower, just a bath.

We asked the landlord if they would install a shower if we paid and they said no as it was an older style property they were worried about the implications.

We all shower everyday and rarely have a bath. AIBU to think a shower is a necessity for a family?

I love a bath, and would not miss showers, however my husband would miss them big time

Before we lived here, I had lived over 30 years without a shower

user1511042793 · 13/10/2018 20:46

Yes I shower every morning. I never bath. Only my eight year old does. The rest of us shower. It’s up to you but it wouldn’t be the property for me.

fatbottomgirl67 · 13/10/2018 20:47

We've only got a bath. Family of 5. 3 smelly teenagers. We cope. Shower would be nice but have other priorities right now

CakeNinja · 13/10/2018 20:47

I wouldn’t like it, although I do shower daily.
I love long baths though so it’s important to me to have the option.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 13/10/2018 20:47

If you like everything else I would go for it. You'll soon get used to baths.

PoxAlert · 13/10/2018 20:48

We have both. Shower barely gets used.

We're bath people.

So for us it'd be easy.

E20mom · 13/10/2018 20:48

I wouldn't!

I haven't had a bath since I was a kid. Showers only.

CakeNinja · 13/10/2018 20:48

Oh sorry, it DOESN’T have a shower, only a bath.
Dp never ever has a bath and I have them for speed. Again, it wouldn’t be for me as I need choice!

WildFlower2018 · 13/10/2018 20:48

My mum's bathroom has a shower that plugins onto the taps. It's pretty good, but she does have it screwed onto the wall like a normal shower.

I couldn't live without a shower personally, I'd need one to wash my hair.

ferrier · 13/10/2018 20:49

I'd be OK with just a bath as long as there was something rigged up for hair washing. But I do prefer a bath in the evening.
One thing to consider is that baths usually take longer ... they don't have to they just tend to go that way.

WildFlower2018 · 13/10/2018 20:49

Plugs in*

ShowOfHands · 13/10/2018 20:49

Our shower broke 12 months ago. Somehow, we've survived.

cushioncovers · 13/10/2018 20:49

Nope we couldn't manage without a shower. Haven't had a bath for years.

lavendersunflowers · 13/10/2018 20:49

It’s fine. Just get a plastic jug to rinse your hair Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/10/2018 20:50

Very happy with our bath, wouldn’t need a shower.

Bunchofdaffodils · 13/10/2018 20:50

I’d be happy with just baths too. Can’t you get a shower that fits to the taps?

olderthanyouthink · 13/10/2018 20:50

I would struggle to deal with my (thick very curly) hair, I don't really understand how people wash their hair without a shower head, pouring a jug over doesn't cut it.

Boothybum · 13/10/2018 20:51

For those that just have baths, do you find that your water and heating bills are higher? I'm just thinking that 2 adults and 2 children having baths daily might worl out expensive but I might be wrong

Boothybum · 13/10/2018 20:52

If remember rightly I don't think the area around the bath is tiled is high so I think that would be an issue with getting a shower that plugs to the taps

We haven't had a working shower for about 4 years now. Not a necessity at all.

Magpiefeather · 13/10/2018 20:56

Our shower broke ages ago too and w have just been managing with the bath. It does take slightly longer but what we tend to do is have a shallow bath - not a nice luxurious long, deep, bubbly one - most days and basically just use it to wash in. No soaking really unless w are having a “proper” bath. It’s a bit of a pain washing your hair but absolutely fine.

If you like the Rest of the house I would go for it!

Gigglebrain · 13/10/2018 20:59

I lived in a house without a shower for 15 years, I hated it. I used to sit in the bath and pour water over myself in a kind of imitation shower. Right pain, baths take too long, and if you’re on a water meter you will use a lot of water.

safariboot · 13/10/2018 21:00

I just have one of those that goes onto the taps, I found one with velcro straps rhat stop it popping off, and shower sitting down in the bath. Yes the wall gets wet, not much I can do about that.

HidingFromMyKids · 13/10/2018 21:03

We only have a bath in our house too. Honestly it drives me mad especially now I'm pregnant and have stupidly long thick hair but we do manage and have for nearly three years.
Last time I was pregnant we only had a shower unit and I wished we had a bath.

IStandWithPosie · 13/10/2018 21:05

I wouldn’t even consider living somewhere without a shower. I bath maybe twice a year and I don’t like it when I do. Not sure why I do it tbh. I shower daily, sometimes twice. It’s so quick. I couldn’t be arsed waiting for the bath to fill up every morning. Also, I wouldn’t want to share bath water with my DCs. Which we would have to if having baths.
