To not get DD a crop top?

DD wants this branded crop top. She's 10. AIBU to say no?

Yanbu

Grim unless for sport

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 13/10/2018 16:15

Does she have breasts? I needed a proper bra at that age and luckily my mum didn't think my developing body was "grim". If her breast are developing she will need something for comfort as well as embarrassment factor. I though you were going to say she was 6.

JellieEllie · 13/10/2018 16:15

No. My SD wears them and I honestly cringe when she comes out of her room in one. She has loads of them bought by her mother and I really really dislike the look of them on children.

JellieEllie · 13/10/2018 16:16

I don't think she means to wear as an undergarment I think she means to wear as part of an outfit @ThisIsNotARealAvo

SaucyJack · 13/10/2018 16:16

Is it the branding you object to? (Is it Pink?)

Because crop tops aren’t at all inappropriate for 10 year olds.

Moneydoesntgrowontrees · 13/10/2018 16:17

Link doesn’t work for me ??

Shruce · 13/10/2018 16:18

Sorry, it's a crop top, as a top... no, it's not the branding, I'm not sure why I mentioned that (she has normal TShirts from that brand) but I just don't like how her stomach is on show and it's just very, very skimpy? She's only 10.

Shruce · 13/10/2018 16:19

Oh sorry there wasn't a link?

www.justhype.co.uk/kids/hype-midnight-rose-kids-crop-t-shirt-b15b0f

It's this, but didn't link it originally

SaucyJack · 13/10/2018 16:19

Ahhh- no, YANBU.

I don’t like them as outerwear on kids either.

Shruce · 13/10/2018 16:20

I think with high waisted bottoms it might just about be okay, but if it's normal height bottoms, I really hate the way they look

OP posts:
tessica2 · 13/10/2018 16:21

I wouldn't say that the top in the link was very skimpy, I was expecting to see one like some of the tops that are basically fancy bras

I would not have a problem with the top in the link

AllStar14 · 13/10/2018 16:21

That top shows hardly any skin, I wouldn't have a problem with that.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 13/10/2018 16:24

I think that's fine not at all inappropriate.

sharpstick · 13/10/2018 16:24

My 10 year old dd has this very top. I wouldn’t say it’s hugely cropped when on if that helps. I don’t see a problem with it.

FlowThroughIt · 13/10/2018 16:25

I don't really like crop tops on anyone after 1989. Weird obsession with them in the UK. They, along with skinny jeans don't look good on most people.

0nTheEdge · 13/10/2018 16:26

I'd let my 5 year old wear something like that. It's just a cropped t shirt, I'm pretty sure I wore similar in the 80s! Just not with a short skirt.

xyzandabc · 13/10/2018 16:27

That particular top doesn't look very cropped. Unless DD is very long bodied, it won't really show her stomach unless she lifts her arms up.

FissionChips · 13/10/2018 16:29

Just buy a vest top for underneath it.

Haggisfish · 13/10/2018 16:30

Skimpy?! I’d let dd wear it no problem. She has a raving crop top from pineapple for dancing in and she sometimes wears it as a t shirt top in summer.

Shruce · 13/10/2018 16:30

She won't want a vest top underneath. She WANTS to show her stomach Hmm I think that's my concern really, the reasoning behind wanting a crop top

OP posts:
AlexaShutUp · 13/10/2018 16:31

I really dislike the look of crop tops on anyone young girls, but that top doesn't look too bad at all tbh.

Mayhemmumma · 13/10/2018 16:31

I thought it would be like a sports top...this is fine imo...would stick a pink vest under for winter.

implantsandaDyson · 13/10/2018 16:31

It's a short t shirt and it sits on or just above the waistband. I don't like Hype as a brand but the actual top I wouldn't even blink at. I have a 13,10 and 7 year old - pick your battles.

If I don't like something I just say no to my Dd. 13. She used to have a moan, now she rolls her eyes. I've told her she'll be an adult for a long time and can make those kind of decisions then.
