To not get DD a crop top?

DD wants this branded crop top. She's 10. AIBU to say no?

OP posts:
VioletPickles · 13/10/2018 16:33

Don't think its very skimpy at all - pick your battles I think

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 13/10/2018 16:34

I think I know where you're coming from OP but also at that age I don't think there's necessarily anything ominous about her wanting to show her belly. I was shopping today and with it being so warm I saw so many young teen girls in similar tops. She's probably just wanting to feel fashionable?

honeyskye · 13/10/2018 16:35

YABU.

TickTickBoomBoom · 13/10/2018 16:35

I don't think that's a crop top at all - it's just a shorter than usual top. I take crop tops to mean the ones that come between the belly button and the breasts.

My 10yo is also obsessed with crop tops and wants to show her stomach - I would happily buy that one for her.

duckling84 · 13/10/2018 16:37

What's wrong with her stomach? Why are you insisting that it should be covered up? Is it something she should be ashamed or embarrassed about?
It's just a tummy. Wowzers.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/10/2018 16:39

It’s not as bad as I expected.

eelbecomingforyou · 13/10/2018 16:40

It’s pretty. Nice top. No problem with that at all.

LividAtDolphins · 13/10/2018 16:40

I thought it was going to be really really short or something. It barely shows any stomach!

jarhead123 · 13/10/2018 16:41

I'm not a fan of the really cropped tops they all seem to like, but this one in the link is fine IMO.

CarolDanvers · 13/10/2018 16:42

No I wouldn't either OP. I just don't see the necessity of it. We wear clothes mainly for practical reasons don't we - warmth, protection, why do stomachs on boys or girls need to be out there? When she's older, fine, she decides, but I don't want my young daughter wearing heavily gendered clothes like that.

titchy · 13/10/2018 16:43

What on Earth is wrong with that Confused I thought you meant an actual cropped top, the sort you wear before you need a bra. It's just a short t shirt.

stabbybitch · 13/10/2018 16:43

My 10 year old wears them along with all the other 10 year old girls around here.

IDoLoveToBeBesideTheSeaside · 13/10/2018 16:43

Nothing wrong with that top for a ten year old.

LongSummerDays · 13/10/2018 16:44

That top is fine! Doesn't show much tummy.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 13/10/2018 16:46

Looks like what I see 90% of girls aged 10-16 wearing - with high waisted skinny jeans and white trainers.

Glumglowworm · 13/10/2018 16:47

There’s nothing wrong with that top, it’s not skimpy at all.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 13/10/2018 16:47

Absolutely clothes are mainly practical but fashion is fun too! They're kids!

Moneydoesntgrowontrees · 13/10/2018 16:51

How did the first few posters manage to comment without a link?!

It’s not as bad as I imagined but it’s nearly winter! Maybe next year.

JellieEllie · 13/10/2018 16:52

Oh seeing the picture I don't think that top is too cropped actually. I thought you meant as in a sports bra short type of crop. (That's the type my 10yo SD wears)

speakout · 13/10/2018 16:54

I'm not getting the issue actually.
What's the problem with showing belly?

Hunlife · 13/10/2018 16:54

YANBU I hate them. DD’s friend sometimes wears them - they’re 6

CaMePlaitPas · 13/10/2018 16:55

Going to go against the grain, I don't see what's wrong with this. I remember crop tops the first time round, I was desperate to wear one and was always rolling up my top. I think this particular one is subtle and they are very fashionable at the moment, she'll probably wear it with high waisted jeans as those are in fashion too -and not the Britney Spear'sesque low rise jeans I was so desperate to pair my crop top with- I think it's alright.

CaMePlaitPas · 13/10/2018 16:55

Oops, strike through fail there - but you catch my drift!

Sleepsoon7 · 13/10/2018 16:56

I think it’s fine.

Littlepond · 13/10/2018 16:56

I wouldn’t have an issue with that at all, I was imagining a bra type crop top! Ithink it’s fine, not inappropriate at all!
