To not get DD a crop top?

DD wants this branded crop top. She's 10. AIBU to say no?

Meh, looks ok to me, I really was expecting something skimpy from your reaction.

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/10/2018 16:58

Dd has loads if those cropped jumpers and tops .

Dont see the problem with them it's just a top.

PiggeryPorcombe · 13/10/2018 17:00

It’s a perfectly normal top for a 10yr old to be wearing. She just wants to look like and fit in with her peers presumably. It’s hardly sexualised.

NWQM · 13/10/2018 17:01

Not sure what you think the 'reasoning is'? Why are you bothered that she wants to show her belly? If you are paying for it then fundamentally you aren't unreasonable to say no and I personally absolutely say that crop tops are for certain days and not others ....not dressy for x. That top though really isn't showing much.

serbska · 13/10/2018 17:02

I think that top is fine.

I was expecting to see one that was basically a bra!

Blackoutblinds · 13/10/2018 17:02

I wouldn’t have a problem with that top.

PoxAlert · 13/10/2018 17:03

I don't think that's a crop top. Just a short t-shirt.

I don't see a problem with that one.

percheron67 · 13/10/2018 17:03

How difficult for you. I don't find anything offensive in young people's bodies but I wonder if it tempts paedophiles out of their caves. Horrible thing to think I know but these awful people are everywhere.

youarenotkiddingme · 13/10/2018 17:04

I agree about a crop top on a 10 yo but that cropped t shirt is fine imo.

Not skimpy

PillowOfSociety · 13/10/2018 17:04

Ugh, why do they have to ‘model’ clothes for 3-13 year olds with poses like that one-legged hand in hip pose?

Boys clothes don’t get modelled like that!

It doesn’t look that ‘cropped’ but I wouldn’t be spending that sort of money on a T Shirt for a 10yo.

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 13/10/2018 17:08

That's not even a crop top! I'd be relieved if I was you

speakout · 13/10/2018 17:08

I'm not getting the problem with crop tops for kids.

Children are not responsible for the behaviour of paedophiles.

Should women stop wearing short skirts to modify the behaviour pf rapists?

Kenworthington · 13/10/2018 17:10

God what seriously it’s hardly even cropped. It is however totally hideous imho.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/10/2018 17:11

I’d tell her yep you can have one but have to wear a t shirt under it. That’s what my friend does with her daughters.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/10/2018 17:13

But tbh looking at pic that one isn’t that bad... I was small than sports bra

Yabbers · 13/10/2018 17:16

Nope. Hate them on pre-teen girls.

AviatorShades · 13/10/2018 17:23

Coming into winter? brrr.
Spring/summer I'd have no problem with it.Smile

SoupDragon · 13/10/2018 17:23

That’s not skimpy at all.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/10/2018 17:26

Oh dear. I wore shorts sets with tops about that length when I was that age, and even younger. I'm over 60 and it was in the early '60s and that was the fashion for play clothes . I didn't realize that I was showing too much skin!

I don't see a problem with it. I hate to think at her age she's already being given the idea that her clothing is responsible for the behaviour of those who would do her harm.

MollysMummy2010 · 13/10/2018 17:31

My nearly nine year old went to her school disco last night in a shorter crop top but I insisted on high waisted jeans and a vest top underneath. She wears similar tops for gymnastics.

SmokeAndBone · 13/10/2018 17:38

I think the one in the link is quite pretty and would have let DD wear it at that age.
You have to pick your battles and I'm not sure this is one worth having!

It's not to my taste, but I thought it would be much worse. I think my issue with young girls wearing the skimpy crop tops like bras and hot pants that show their bums, is that they are adult clothes. I don't think children should be wearing heels, make up and dying their hair either. It's not about them attracting sex offenders etc, I work with them I know it makes no difference.

I just think children's clothing should be more about practicality. Some of SILs friends children 7-10, won't play in case their clothes get dirty or because they're too restrictive, they can't run in their fancy shoes. That seems like such a shame. This one is very slightly cropped but loose fitting, it wouldn't affect how she could move or play, I think it's actually a good compromise in terms of style, even though I'm not a massive fan of the brand (I don't like labels splashed across the front on my own clothes let alone for children, make us all look like walking billboards)

HighwayDragon1 · 13/10/2018 17:46

DD is 8 and has loads of tops like that. What's so offensive about a child's stomach? Why shouldn't she wear what she wants?
