I never used to go around with a water bottle, let alone, grab a cup of coffee

every time I went out.
what is it with people having to be constantly Slurping!

the world cannot cope with all the rubbish this causes.

Water doesn't bother me especially if a reusable cup is used (Klean Kanteens are fabulous).

Coffee / tea I don't get. I take a cuppa to DD's swimming lesson in a reusable cup. I sit for half an hour so have chance to drink it. But walking round the shops? I just don't think it's safe. I always stop my DC walking about unnecessarily in cafes or the seating area of soft play in case they get under someone's feet and get scalded by a hot drink, but we went to the zoo recently and pretty much every adult was drinking a Costa while walking around - so unsafe and surely not relaxing or enjoyable when pushing pushchairs or wrangling toddlers!

I love a Costa or Starbucks but at 400 calories and £3 a pop it's not imo a good habit to get into.

PuppyMonkey · 13/10/2018 13:34

I know what you mean OP.

My DP is obsessed with ensuring our girls (age 11 and 12) take huge bottles of water with them whenever they go out - shopping, to the cinema, walking the puppy, anywhere. The sodding bottles (not the plastic kind, I mean reusable ones) are cumbersome and heavy, they leak, they get put down somewhere and forgotten/lost forever. It really gets on my tits.

When it’s just me and the girls, I’ll tell them to make sure they have a big glass of water before we go out and then that’s it. We always survive and/or go to a cafe and have a drink there if we need to.

This thread is quite childish, and a bit odd. I agree with you that too many people use cardboard cups and plastic bottles, but that isn't what you're moaning about, per de. What does how often people want a drink have to do with you?

Jaxtellerswife · 13/10/2018 13:35

If you feel thirsty you are already showing signs of dehydration. Keeping hydrated is very important and underestimated. It's also inoffensive so this post is bizarre

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/10/2018 13:36

I dislike the plastic bottles, but if people carry their own reusable cups/bottles then it's not too bad.

Yerroblemom1923 · 13/10/2018 13:36

It's a "thing", OP. People like to carry water/coffee cups around with them all day so the rest of the world knows how incredibly busy they are. You know? Too busy to go to the staff kitchen and pour themselves a glass of water or boil the kettle for a brew etc. It's a look at me thing. They'll get tired of it eventually.

cantbreathethroughthis · 13/10/2018 13:36

This Aibu is a tiny bit twatty, OP Grin

fabmabs · 13/10/2018 13:36

Are all the pensioners on the bus slurping water, no, they have managed to live without constant hydration

Soo funny and soo true OP

A physio told me better for my bladder if I took a break and actually drink a glass of water every now and then instead of constantly taking little sips from a bottle I was carrying around

Think somehow the "coffee to go" culture got imported from the USA via tv/films

@Fiftyshadesofgreymatter

This is quite a useful [[https://www.livescience.com/61353-how-much-water-you-really-need-drink.html link]] to a range of research.

AnnaNimmity · 13/10/2018 13:37

I can't bear the sucking sounds. Disgusting. Was next to a woman on a train last week - constant sucking.

Yuk.

Yerroblemom1923 · 13/10/2018 13:37

Some will claim to be "doing their bit for the planet " however have you ever seen anyone looking "cool and oh so busy" with a Thermos of Yorkshire tea?!

Violetroselily · 13/10/2018 13:37

Most ridiculous thread I've read on here.

Why do you care that other people want a drink?

LittleBookofCalm · 13/10/2018 13:39

Variety of different opinions on this topic

OP posts:
LoveManyTrustfew · 13/10/2018 13:40

I have no salivary glands, so need to keep my mouth moist at all times.

But hey thanks for judging me. Angry

Yerroblemom1923 · 13/10/2018 13:43

I agree it's important to drink water. But you don't have to carry a bottle EVERYWHERE with you so everyone can see how healthy you are on order to stay hydrated! Have a glass at home before work. Have a glass or 2 or more AT WORK. Have more water when you get home. Discreetly hydrated 👍

sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 13/10/2018 13:43

I use a refillable water bottle. Have noticed when I don't use it I feel like crap...headache, hungrier. Also bring a coffee to work with me every morning in a flask cup. It's the perfect temp once I've got to work.

I think it's great that people are doing this more now and using reusable cups and bottles. Seeing students and other people swigging energy drinks every day pees me off though.

DelphiniumBlue · 13/10/2018 13:46

I am so old I can clearly remember a time when it was considered vulgar to eat or drink in public, unless sitting down in a restaurant/ cafe/ picnic area.
I still find the coffee on the go thing a little unnecessary, possibly bordering on the pretentious, and quite inconsiderate of fellow travellers. Especially on the bus or tube: long-distance journeys on trains where you are not so tightly packed, and on which there is a loo, are different.

BewareOfDragons · 13/10/2018 13:46

One of my biggest dislikes OP. Why, oh why, does everyone needs to be constantly drinking or eating on the move. Just sit down for a few minutes for goodness sake, it will do you good. Or, shock, horror, wait until you get home, back to the office to have a drink. You won't suddenly drop down dead for lack of liquid/sustenance. I know I am old, but we used to survive outside, in all weathers, for several hours, before we came in for our tea/dinner.

Great. I'll tell I'll my fellow primary school teaching and staff members that grabbing food on the run when we're on break or at lunch when we're actually still sorting out problems and working is wrong and to knock it off. OH, and hey, if we don't drink, we won't have to worry about needing the toilet during lessons! Hmm

Rude word off.

Yes, we eat and drink on the run, literally, because we often don't have 10 minutes to sit down quietly to do so ... always children there waiting for something to be done for them, or being interrupted to sort something out, or being asked to run clubs on breaks, etc ... so we grab food when we can and carry water/drinks.

Everyoneiswingingit · 13/10/2018 13:46

I agree OP. It started with celebs being tapped with a coffee on the go and bag over the other arm. I drink coffee.tea with breakfast at home then at work then at home. If I'm out shopping I'll stop and sit down for a drink. Never had to walk and drink unless I am rambling but even then I's stop and sit on a rock and adore the view whilst drinking.

quarterpast · 13/10/2018 13:46

With you on the disposable wastage side of things, but... As long as reusable bottles/cups are used thereby minimising environmental impact, I can honestly say I have never thought twice about whether people are drinking water or having a coffee 🤔😀 I'm amazed that it actually bothers you tbh.

There have been times when I have walked along the road drinking, but this has been when I was in between lectures when doing my Masters degree and we had 2 minutes between campuses and each lecture was 2 hours long.

If I had thought anyone was taking time out of their day to a) notice that I had a drink or b) judge me for it negatively I would have thought you completely ridiculous and felt a bit sad for you 😂

Everyoneiswingingit · 13/10/2018 13:46

*papped not tapped!

Touchmybum · 13/10/2018 13:47

Somewhere, a village is missing an idiot...

I tend not to pay heed to what other people are doing. I've enough to be doing minding my own business. I do agree about the waste but it's not a problem I can solve.

I have a lovely Chilly bottle which I think a pp also must have - keeps drinks cold for 24 hours or hot for 12 - I always have tap water chilled in the fridge and I fill it from that. Love it. Why shouldn't people have a drink when they're thirsty? We're not in Victorian times where eating and drinking in public wasn't considered polite!

Yerroblemom1923 · 13/10/2018 13:47

Flasks and refillable water bottles are fine. It's the bottles and Starbucks etc coffees that wind people up because (as I've already mentioned) it screams "look at me! I'm far too busy to fill a reusable waterbottle/make my own coffee before leaving the house!"

thenightsky · 13/10/2018 13:47

I purposely don't drink for the hour before I go out and whilst I'm out as I can never find a damn toilet. Where do all these endless sippers pee it all out?

Bursting for a pee for hours feels horrible, is very distracting, and can ruin a nice trip out. I'd rather feel a bit dehydrated than suffer that.

Everyoneiswingingit · 13/10/2018 13:47

It doesn't bother me apart from the waste. but I have noticed it has become a thing.
