I never used to go around with a water bottle, let alone, grab a cup of coffee

every time I went out.
what is it with people having to be constantly Slurping!

the world cannot cope with all the rubbish this causes.

OP posts:
lalafafa · 13/10/2018 13:48

you only need 2 liters a day, much of that from your food, Its all a marketing ploy with this constant water drinking.

TheDarkPassenger · 13/10/2018 13:48

It astounds me that people actually care so much that other people are carrying a drink Hmm

Junkmail · 13/10/2018 13:49

Uugghhh. Let people enjoy things.

I’m trying to up my water intake so I take water with me when I have classes/work all day as I don’t have access to tap water there and I don’t want to buy a disposable plastic bottle.

Sometimes I buy a coffee to walk around with or drink in the car because I want to and I like it and it enriches my life. Why do you find this so annoying OP? Okay the cup wastage. But more and more people bring their own cups especially now that there’s a discount for doing so. It’s really not an issue. I think this is another case of if you don’t like it then don’t YOU do it and leave other people to do what they enjoy and that isn’t harming anyone.

reallybadidea · 13/10/2018 13:49

Are all the pensioners on the bus slurping water, no, they have managed to live without constant hydration

Dehydration is a pretty big problem in the elderly. They would probably benefit from carrying a bottle of water around with them.

I agree that single use plastic isn't great, but I don't think that is you're main issue with it. You sound a bit intolerant of the fact that other people will choose to live their lives differently to you.

ProfessorMoody · 13/10/2018 13:51

I've heard it all now. It's "on trend" to hydrate Grin

TonTonMacoute · 13/10/2018 13:51

You could also google ‘eat your water’ for some interesting links.

quarterpast · 13/10/2018 13:52

Also, it's absurd to use pensioners as an example, most of them aren't anything like as active as people juggling kids/jobs/study etc and spend much more time sitting still, doing very low level activity yada yada...

noeffingidea · 13/10/2018 13:52

I never carry a drink with me, unless I know I'm going to be out all day. Thats just because I'm tight though, I resent paying shop prices.
I agree it's a 'thing' that seems to have started in the last few years, people used to manage quite nicely on a few cups of tea and the odd glass of water over the course of the day, usually at mealtimes and breaks.

ravenmum · 13/10/2018 13:53

Maybe you should read your little book for a bit?

If you see a pensioner on the bus drinking (not slurping) water from her bottle, that might be my stepmother, who once collapsed from dehydration and broke her arm, and since goes round religiously with her bottle of water.

LillianGish · 13/10/2018 13:54

Couldn’t agree more - went to the cinema last night and DH paid €2.60 for a small bottle of Evian. Only took a couple of sips from it during the film - didn’t even finish it! He couldn’t understand why I was moaning - we were watching a film, not going on an expedition across the desert. Couldn’t understand why he didn’t have a drink before he left home or wait until we got back.

Everyoneiswingingit · 13/10/2018 13:54

I think people are just commenting on something they have noticed, I for one have. I CARE about the waste and litter. On my daily dog walks I see countless bottles and coffee cups. It is a thing. Nobody needs to drink 2L of water. We need 2L of liquid including that in food such as fruit veg, soups and other beverages.

Antigon · 13/10/2018 13:55

Agree on the use of Single Use Plastics. Get a water filter and fill up your own BPA-free bottle with filtered water. Buying mineral water (except in emergencies) is selfish, given the state of our planet.

SUPs are banned at my workplace.

Starryskiesinthesky · 13/10/2018 13:55

I dont really care about people drinking water all the time but I do notice it. We didnt do it back in my day and now it is like no-one can last without drinking water constantly.

WonderTweek · 13/10/2018 13:56

Haha. I love that someone gets miffed about other people having a drink. 😂I don’t think it’s a new trend - I believe people have drunk water since they came about!

My mum has always had a water bottle handy and that’s how I got into the habit too. I have a reusable sports bottle and I swig away all day and I feel great. 😎I’m often out of the house and out and about and I don’t want to cram all of my hydrating into those 1-2 hours that I’m at home and awake.

Everyoneiswingingit · 13/10/2018 13:56

Nothing wrong with hydrating but if that means plastic bottles and coffee cups then I'm against. Use flasks and refillable bottles or go into a cafe and drink from proper cups.

Thisreallyisafarce · 13/10/2018 13:57

I don't need biscuits or cake either. I like them. I like a nice cold drink. None of anybody else's business.

Everyoneiswingingit · 13/10/2018 13:59

Of course This but that is a line that is trotted out especially from celebs who pretend that their botoxed to the hilt face is the product of drinking 2L of Evian a day!

Ollivander84 · 13/10/2018 14:00

I drink a lot. At work I can take 150 calls a day and my throat gets a battering. Then I'm used to drinking that much so do the same on my days off

BirthdayKake · 13/10/2018 14:01

I don't get it either, but then I never drink apart from alcohol

CoughLaughFart · 13/10/2018 14:03

So no one is allowed a drink unless it’s to prevent death from dehydration? They can’t just have one because they enjoy it?

This is the stupidest thread I’ve seen on here in a while - and Christ knows it’s got plenty of competition.

Antigon · 13/10/2018 14:03

Sadly the clutching of a Starbucks cup as a status accessory continues.

iamthere123 · 13/10/2018 14:04

I have arthritis and have to take painkillers often to control my pain. I must remember to just suffer until I get home rather than carry a bottle of water to take my tablets as it offends people.

ourkidmolly · 13/10/2018 14:05

Drives me nuts too. All the refilling of these poxy bottles at the cooler. Work avoidance. We've been completely hoodwinked into this by the bottled water industry. Yes of course I know there a tiny minority with a medical need to consume 10 litres every hour but everyone else is just using up the Earth's resources. All the toilet trips too. Some people are barely at their desks.
I think there's a myth culture around gulping gallons and having dewy skin and bags of energy. No scientific evidence for any of that.

CoughLaughFart · 13/10/2018 14:05

Christ, if I was married to you I’d be drinking more than bloody water.

RightYesButNo · 13/10/2018 14:05

I seriously have to believe this thread is a wind-up based on your username. Because if you read the Little Book of Calm and this is the kind of stuff you worry about... sure, you’ve made some okay points about plastic wastage, OP, we should all worry about that, but you’ve made a few cruel, judgmental comments, such as your opening gambit about “slurping” and “teachers are hardly working the land, are they” (I’m not a teacher - just find that a sneery thing to say). So, yeah, either wind-up or I’d recommend a new username if these are the kinds of threads you’re going to start and the kinds of things you’re going to say.

If you’re worried about plastic waste, then presumably you’d be fine if every person on the street used reusable water bottles and coffee cups, right? Worthy goal. I’d be fine with that myself. If not though, then... your problem isn’t just the wastage and you just like judging people.
