He seem like either he is really ill or he's pissed.

The just asked him if he's still celebrating his birthday (reference to him bein drunk)

OP posts:
DCIVivDeering · 13/10/2018 01:01

The vast majority loved him.

So? You're allowed to have a different opinion, even if no-one agrees with it.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 13/10/2018 01:37

I think it's pretty crap of TLL. It's a live show, the man was shitfaced. He could have done something career ending. It's just not very responsible or very kind.

And yes, invariably people who get drunk on TV are people with a real problem.

And of course mumsnet is a bit judgey and boring; we're bloody mums, it's our job to disapprove. I disapprove of my kids all the time, even when what they are doing is fairly tame compared to what I got up to at their age. It's a role, they love it.

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/10/2018 01:45

Did they try turning him off and on again?

:o:o:o:o:o

SadieLancaster · 13/10/2018 01:57

He’s always come across to me as a bit of a twat. Maybe nobody likes him and they’ve encouraged him to drink, HOPING he’ll fuck up 😁

Jlynhope · 13/10/2018 02:40

He's always lovely and he wasn't offensive here. It's his birthday, he had one too many birthday drinks.

Graphista · 13/10/2018 02:51

He had quite clearly had more than "a couple of drinks", normalising excessive drinking is not something we need in this country at the moment!

"There is a differance between recreational drinking and alcoholism." I'm probably more aware than most.

Also at no point have I judged him, it's the sober people around him taking the piss out of him and hoping for better ratings for a tv show I judge! Unprofessional and irresponsible!

I've looked at the Twitter feed too - more mocking him than loving him I'd say.

That's not on.

I'm not a particular fan of his I don't watch any of his shows he's in they're not my sense of humour, but I've seen him on chat shows and charity fundraisers and he seemed a nice enough chap. I hope it WAS just a case of overdoing the birthday celebrations and in future he's treated better even if it's not.

As a pp said he could have done something very embarrassing potentially career ending and then people would have probably taken a different view.

If he does have a problem with alcohol (and I'm absolutely not saying he does) then I hope he seeks and gets the help he needs.

Lazypoolday · 13/10/2018 03:07

Just saw a clip of it there. Why is talking with an American accent? That annoys me, he been in the states for all of what, 2 years?! Cop onto yourself Chris 😁

Bestseller · 13/10/2018 07:28

The majority of the guests on Graham Norton always seem drunk to me. Sometimes very drunk

Happygolucky75 · 13/10/2018 08:00

He played a US cop in bridesmaids.. The accent might have rubbed off. I don't think mums need to be judgey and boring outside of to their kids. We should be fun with them too and tough when we need to be.

Anyway yes hope he does not have a problem of course. He may well cut back after last night or maybe he enjoys these appearances which are rare.

Riversleep · 13/10/2018 08:15

I didn't think they said it was his birthday that day. I thought Adam Hills said it was his birthday earlier in the week?
I really like him usually. He's a clever interviewee, funny and articulate. He was just boring and rambling last night. Like it usually is watching a drunk person when you're sober.

KERALA1 · 13/10/2018 08:24

Thinking it's not great to turn up to work pissed out of your head so your colleagues are embarrassed for you and made to feel awkward doesn't make a person "boring" Hmm. He was so drunk he couldn't do what he was paid to do. Try it when you go to work on Monday and let us know how it goes

pictish · 13/10/2018 08:31

Honestly having watched a couple of videos of this interview I don’t know what everyone’s making such a fuss about. Yes, he’s pished. He’s not being aggressive, rude, outlandish or obnoxious...he’s just common garden, talking to your pal in the pub, pished. And quite good natured with it.

Total non event.

PositiveVibez · 13/10/2018 08:33

I always thought both him and dawn were a couple of nob heads

Yep. Totally.

Happygolucky75 · 13/10/2018 08:35

Nice positivity there not so positive vibes. You could just say they are not your type of people. They are someone's type or they would not be so successful.

pictish · 13/10/2018 08:43

Of course no one here has ever had a drink and chatted shit. No one here has ever had a drink or two more than they should and been more drunk than they ought to be. Everyone has their sobriety nailed both historically and going forward. Of course they do.

Like fuck. You judgemental, sanctimonious bunch.

EwItsAHooman · 13/10/2018 09:08

He's a comedian on a TV show where alcohol is served on set, I don't think getting drunk in those circumstances is as unprofessional as people here seem to think Grin

And how many did he have? No one here knows! He could have been jetlagged, tired, celebrating his birthday, and misjudged how many drinks he could handle then got into the mindset of "fuck it, I may as well have another". It doesn't make someone an alcoholic or mean they have a problem with alcohol.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 13/10/2018 09:13

I guess TV chat shows know what gets them viewers, repeat viewers and revenue. Sadly encouraging excessive drinking makes notorious, and therefore profitable, viewing.

A professional turning up to work drunk is probably not OK.

pictish · 13/10/2018 09:13

Why does anyone here think he owes them sobriety anyway? He’s a tv comedian with absolutely no impact on your lives whatsoever.

KERALA1 · 13/10/2018 09:20

Made me cringe. So turned it off. It's his equivalent of work he's an older guy I think it's weird and Jessica looked quite uncomfortable. Don't feel strongly but he behaved like abit of a twat imo.

AlphaBravo · 13/10/2018 09:21

His 'drink' was refilled with water by the way. The crew and host were getting fucked off with him mid show.

Can nobody read body language properly??

KERALA1 · 13/10/2018 09:23

Plus I literally cannot bear to watch people making fools of themselves always hated that dynamic. Feeling sorry for them and cringing. Not a pleasant viewer experience for me anyway!

CandleWithHair · 13/10/2018 09:39

Sanctimony, thy name is Mumsnet

mydogisthebest · 13/10/2018 09:41

I recorded it as I was binge watching him in the second series of Get Shorty which me and DH love.

We will watch it later.

Happygolucky75 · 13/10/2018 09:50

If its not a pleasant viewing experience, put on something else.. maybe Graham Norton. If you lucky someone there might have had one too many too so you can feel superior to someone and less insecure.

Fair enough they could be more professional blah blah.. but please don't call him and his wife names. Hardly the kind of online behaviour you want your kids to ever see or be a target off.

Bejazzled · 13/10/2018 09:55

Johnny vegas was pissed on this show last season. It didn't add anything to the comedy, just a bit cringe.
Same last night.

Norton used to be entertaining when it was all about the clever chat and banter but the last couple of series it's been like one 'sleb' after another trotted out to promote their latest film/book/music over a glass of water. It's lost its way completely. Not worth watching now.
