To not answer my front door?

If someone banged on your patio doors and you were home alone would you not answer the door?

Are your patio doors round the back of your house? Do you use them as an entrance?

Mine are in the back garden, past a locked gate. So if someone banged on them then I'd assume they were a burglar or similar.

gamerchick · 12/10/2018 20:34

Your front door is patio doors?

Sparklingbrook · 12/10/2018 20:34

I don't think burglars would bang on the door would they?

I would switch the back light on and see who it was.

imagoodjudy · 12/10/2018 20:36

SORRY my patio isn’t my front door, ignore the title.

They are obviously patio doors and someone was knocking on them. Blinds down and ignored them.

Really creeped out though.

Well, not banging as in knocking obviously, but perhaps banging whilst trying to gain entry.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 12/10/2018 20:38

Hm that is odd.

I'm very nosey so I would turn the outdoor light on to see who it was.

ogglet · 12/10/2018 20:38

Eeek creepy - can you peer outside from upstairs? Do you have CCTV?

Sparklingbrook · 12/10/2018 20:39

If it was the front door I would go upstairs to the front bedroom, and look out of the window to see who it was.

I would wonder if one of the neighbours needed my help or if it was one of my teenager's friends.

Bloomingfreezing · 12/10/2018 20:39

It happened to me in our last house when I was putting DS to bed. Really scared me as I was home alone with DS. Didn’t answer the door. Found out the next day it was charity collectors as they’d wedged a leaflet in the doors. Why they didn’t come to the front I have no idea.

Are you ok op?

hungryhippo90 · 12/10/2018 20:42

I would go to the window directly above to ask what they wanted. If they were doing so in the back garden I’m sorry but I would be rude, and they’d probably get a 30 second head start on the devil dog.

imagoodjudy · 12/10/2018 20:42

I live alone in a bungalow, so no looking out the window. I’m set on a pathway from the road so you’d have to purposely be coming to the property.

I’m ok thank you, just like I said a bit creeped out.

Opening the patio door in that situation would have left me pretty vulnerable.

Are the patio doors round the back?

Bellabutterfly2016 · 12/10/2018 20:48

Ive just had a knock on my front door (literally in the last 10 mins) from a young lad trying to get me to order an organic vegetable box!

Far too late - I sent dp but if I'd been home alone I wouldn't have answered the door!!!

Banamara · 12/10/2018 20:56

If it is someone you know, they surely have a mobile number to alert you that they are outside.

So why would they knock on your patio doors?

Personally I would just ignore. But that is just me I reckon. Sorry.

Ontheboardwalk · 12/10/2018 21:00

This time last week I had Veg box salesman absolutely hammering hard on my back/side door that’s behind a tall gate. Reason why, he didn’t think we’d answer the front door at the time.

I’m normally polite with people, they have a job to do. He didn’t get the polite response

Sparklingbrook · 13/10/2018 04:44

If one of my neighbours needed help in an emergency I hope they would feel able to run across and knock my door without phoning first.

mediumbrownmug · 13/10/2018 05:02

YANBU. It's a knock, not a summons.

speakout · 13/10/2018 05:13

I would be freaked out.

My back garden is totally surrounded by an eight foot high fence and a bolted high gate.
Anyone gaining access to my garden and patio doors would need a ladder to get in so I would freak.

FurryDice · 13/10/2018 05:47

YANBU. It's a knock, not a summons

This. It’s not compulsory to answer. Same as it’s not mandatory to answer the phone should it ring

Delilah21D00LoT · 13/10/2018 06:03

It might be kids playing "Knock down ginger".

We used to get this quite a lot, some years ago, which used to drive me nuts.

We stopped answering the door and they stopped knocking.

strawberrisc · 13/10/2018 06:03

Someone trying to smash your back doors in? I wouldn’t respond.

cantfindname · 13/10/2018 06:16

If it was anyone in desperate need of your attention I am sure they would have shouted and said who they were. As it stands absolutely zero chance I would answer unless I had a very large and aggressive dog with me.

Ohheyyy · 13/10/2018 06:20

There's no way I would answer to someone who knocked at my rear or side door at night.

strawberrisc · 13/10/2018 06:26

I’d never answer my rear door.

BackBoiler · 13/10/2018 06:27

Was it a knock or a bang? If it was the latter maybe the wind blew something into them
