Just looking at a recipe and someone has added the offending three words. AIBU?

OP posts:
Growingboys · 12/10/2018 19:52

YANBU

It's an appalling expression and I immediately go off anyone who uses it.

Angie169 · 12/10/2018 19:58

RosiePosies
you said it would make you sick in your mouth
I have heard this more and more recently , just where else would you be sick ? just asking .

I dislike ;
bellyache unless it is said in the sentence , stop your bellyaching ie stop complaining .
cute names for your DH DW especially long ones when the persons name is short .

When people insert the word actually where it is not needed ' I actually loved that film' when nobody is inferring that they did not love it .

I do not mind brew but do not like cuppa .

When I was a child we had picky dinners , so I like that term it brings back fond memories .

I had a college who would walk into a pub and within a minuet or so say this place has got / has not got any atmos . . I often wanted to launch him into the atmosphere !

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 12/10/2018 20:00

AmIThatBloodyCold YES!

TheNoodlesIncident · 12/10/2018 20:14

I can't bear "peckish". Or "dessert" to be honest, it sounds so prissy, like someone thinking they're being posh saying it instead of pudding.

Doctors/paramedics/nurses saying "tummy" - fine if the patient is a child, surely for adults you can say abdomen and be understood?

Also loathe belly, cuppa, and - sorry scousers - ta-ra for goodbye. Makes my shoulders curl...

crochetmonkey74 · 12/10/2018 20:39

‘....more sleeps until...’
aaarrrrggghhh I hate it

Also
‘Love you to the moon and back’
Makes me cringe

AGHHHH · 12/10/2018 20:41

I actually hate all ways to describe food.

Apart from "that was nice" or if it's great "THAT WAS FUCKING STUNNING!!!!"

I don't know why, I have issues.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 12/10/2018 20:41

Picky bits
Picky dinner/tea
Brew
Cuppa
Nom/nom nom etc
'Go for eats'
Spends...as in 'so I've got £10 for spends.'

DoYouLikeBasghetti · 12/10/2018 20:44

I love yummy and nom nom nom Grin

Lynne1Cat · 12/10/2018 20:44

I think I'll have some bickies and a cuppa for my brekkie with my hubby. When my tummy is full, I'll look at some brochures for our hols, and I'll look at the pics (piccies), whilst eating choccies and I'll be sure to cover up my boobies.

AGHHHH · 12/10/2018 20:49

@Lynne1Cat projectile vomits

Gooseflesh · 12/10/2018 20:55

Veggies
Cuppa
Meaty 😷
Bubs
Last one reminds me of the historical romance novels I used to read where there was always some greasy haired innkeeper or pirate salivating over the heroine's "bubs" Grin

dementedma · 12/10/2018 21:30

glad someone else has mentioned "choc". It makes me rage.
especially on MN when people are always snuggling under blankets and having hot choc, and even more so on the christmas threads when | christmas eve box (yes, this is a thing) always have to have "hot choc" because apparently you cant mix chocolate powder into milk any other time of the year so it is a rare festive treat

MerryMarigold · 12/10/2018 21:33

I never heard nom nom nom before about 10 years ago. Don't know where it appeared from. Roughly around the time of 'hun' though, I think.

I love the word 'yummy'.

My personal eye-stab would be 'divine'.

Serin · 12/10/2018 21:36

Hate it, hate it, hate it.

But on threads like this there is always one who says something like "It makes my teeth itch" and that makes me even angrier.

I have a cousin who describes nice food as "Toothsome" Angry
Mumsnet should give us a giant knob emoji for people like him.

Fiveletters · 12/10/2018 21:39

Someone had written “all the noms” under a wanky photo of her tea on Instagram. Such rage Angry

acsec · 12/10/2018 21:42

I hate 'bite to eat'. My DH sometimes says it and I hate it as it makes no sense!

LucyMorningStar · 12/10/2018 21:43

giant knob emoji omg just dying of laughter here! Grin MN could really do with one!

DailyMailFail101 · 12/10/2018 21:45

I hate the word ‘brew’ when people say it I have to whisper the words ‘cup of tea’ under my breath!

MrsBobBlackadder · 12/10/2018 21:46

@MerryMarigold As well as its all-too-often mid-spelt sibling 'devine'

AGHHHH · 12/10/2018 21:46

I have a cousin who describes nice food as "Toothsome" angry

What the fuck?!

I hope you've disowned them!

ohshitonit · 12/10/2018 21:47

If someone said choc in real life I would just vom

echt · 12/10/2018 22:00

Lots of Aussie ones:

Yum, as in that food was yum
Bub for babies - yes, I think of tits, too.
Farewell as a verb
Confronting as an adjective
Showcase as a verb, especially when writing about, say, Austen: she showcases middle class life , etc.

ambereeree · 12/10/2018 22:11

I'm going to lie awake seething at quite a few of these. When people say nom nom nom it just makes me cry because my meal has been ruined.

OP posts:
Babybearsporij · 12/10/2018 22:24

Nom nom does my head in, but the worst is "sarnie." Makes me actually shudder. And "spends" for money.

alltoomuchrightnow · 12/10/2018 22:46

Many moons ago I was in my early 20s and seeing someone 20 years older. Not that age should have anything to do with it but he was annoyingly immature on many levels . That wasn't really the issue but what wound me up the most was how he always offered me a 'herby tea'. (I don't drink actual tea and he called anything that was non tea, herby , even if it was raspberry, lemon, whatever). He also had a nasal problem. So it was always... 'do you want a herby tea?' Followed by a huge sniff (or hawking back some phlegm) He was also a complete caveman . ('Randy as a ram' was another of his).. He'd get me a 'herby tea' , let me drink it then literally throw me onto the bed, my 'tummy' (hahah) still gurgling from said herby tea. I've rarely had any form of tea since.
Also worked for a woman who was the queen of holibobs, famalam etc. If certain areas of the shop I worked in looked a bit messy (it was a charity shop so having random donations didn't always help) she'd complain it looked 'a bit pickly' .She soon got every volunteer (except me) using this every time sometime didn't quite fit and looked a bit random.
