did not have other connotations?

I like it, but obviously feel I could never actually use it because of the, erm, other meaning it has.

There's an old saying/joke in health care - "At ease, disease, there's fungus among us.".

I'd avoid it too.

Bunchofdaffodils · 09/10/2018 16:49

😂no, I’ve never understood how this can be used as a name!

Never heard that before. Very interesting!

The name makes such a pretty sound if you forget about all else.

Maybe it's a Yank thing. Smile

What was the upshot, I wonder? Probably not to use it. I really don't think I can tbh.

Candice?

frustratingnaminggirls · 09/10/2018 16:57

Candice would be a nice compromise - thanks!

I just think of Candida Doyle from Pulp!

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 09/10/2018 16:59

I was at school with a Candida. Can't say anyone ever gave her a hard time about it at all. It was just a name.

Tara336 · 09/10/2018 17:01

My DD friend was called Candida I did think why call your daughter that when it makes people instantly think of ... turned out that wasn’t even the little girls name! She changed it herself and refused to answer to her much more run of the mill name 🙂

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 09/10/2018 17:29

Am I very innocent?! I only knew it AS a name?!

JennyOnAPlate · 09/10/2018 17:35

I know an adult Candida. She doesn't shorten it or anything. I find it a bit baffling.

VeryFurryXmass · 09/10/2018 17:44

It's an irritating fungus.

Rebecca36 · 09/10/2018 17:51

Well George Bernard Shaw had a principal heroine called Candida, I remember 'doing' that play at school and it was charming.

However most people associate candida with thrush (Candida Albicans) so, no, not a good idea to name a child that.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 09/10/2018 17:52

Every day's a school day Blush

MrsBatkins · 09/10/2018 17:54

@OnceUponATimeInAmerica - so was I. Hmm North West?

BasilFaulty · 09/10/2018 18:22

Havaina I like Cholera as well! Grin

The house opposite my DM's is called Candida. We were walking the dog and had to walk back and forth past it to make sure we were reading the name right Grin

Sparklesocks · 09/10/2018 18:24

I don’t think I could get past the other meaning!

Havaina · 09/10/2018 18:24

Ah, Cholera, suggests an earthy sensuality in a woman.

House of Candida Grin

Isn't Candida quite posh?

TyrionsNextWife · 09/10/2018 18:34

I’ve always wondered what came first - the name or the itch. Maybe the person who discovered it named it after his ex wife or something HmmGrin

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 09/10/2018 19:05

MrsBatkins no, South West, a very long time ago!
